ABS Awareness! 23 Nov 2001 (Forum)
How many drivers (off both sexes) are not aware of how ABS manifests itself? Also how the pedal effects can vary from car to car, and what you should do, and not do. Maybe raising awareness of ABS and its effects is a good point for all car dealers to include when selling cars? Also more support for taking your wife (or husband) to the 'extremely useful' empty snow-covered supermarket car park and find out! -
new Beetle Oil consumption 14 Feb 2001 (Forum)
I bought a new VW Beetle 12 months ago - one of the first RH drive models and have since covered 10000 miles. In most respects I have been very happy with the car but there is one problem area; the car is using around 1.5 litres of oil every 200 miles. The dealer who sold us the car says that it is "perfoming within spec" and the handbook does say that the car could use up to 1 litre of oil per 1000 km. -
2011 Peugeot 207 1.4 8v - Possible failed cambelt? 18 Feb 2019 (Forum)
They towed the car back to her house. The next day she had a family friend mechanic come out and try and start the car again, and again saying it SOUNDS like the cambelt has gone. So 3 people so far have said it's the cambelt. -
Renault Laguna - AA Breakdown Repair Cover - Dont Waste your money 24 May 2014 (Forum)
My mechanic said "Everything is wear and tear". As soon as you drive a new car off the forecourt you will have some degree of wear and tear. What is the point of having insurance when every time I go to claim, the AA refuses to pay out? Anyone would think that they are trying to get me to cancel my insurance because my car is getting old. -
Mercedes - Brand New Rusty Mercedes 2017 5 Sep 2017 (Forum)
The dealership tried to repair the car in house by just mopping it and not sending to a specialist as the car is not covered under warranty. The window surrounds are also marked with small burn marks from the iron filings and the dealership have damaged most for the external trim. -
her fault or mine? 11 Aug 2012 (Forum)
A few weeks ago: I was traveling in left hand lane when a car drove from the right hand lane, without indicating/looking into my drivers side wheel arch. There is very minor damage to my car. The front left of her car is damaged at her passengers side wheel arch towards her indicators. -
2000 Peugeot 306 HDI Meridian - Correct Alloy Wheel bolts 27 Jan 2011 (Forum)
So straight on the phone to the garage, they said bring it in. The garage is 0.5 mile away so tightened and checked all bolts on the car, the other wheels were fine. On the wheel with the missing bolt, two did up tight, but one just kept spinning. So gently and slowly took and left car at garage and went to work. On picking up the car I was informed that bolts on all my wheels are the wrong bolts and the threads are too short. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - Trade Sales 22 Feb 2009 (Forum)
It was missing the spare key, the CD-ROM disk for the SatNav, user manual/audio manual, service history, the load cover and the key bolt for the locking wheel nuts. The salesman said they never promise more than one key on any car, that the CD and the service book would be provided (and that it is definitely still covered by the 3 year warranty), but he's made no promises about the other bits. -
Drought order & car washing 17 May 2006 (Forum)
But the order only prohibits using a sprinkler or hosepipe to wash a car. My current method is to fill buckets, which I use to fill a watering can to rinse the car and I can carry on doing that. There's nothing stopping me from filling the buckets by hose! Automatic car washes that use more than 23 litres of water per car are also banned but I never use them anyway. -
Audi A3 Sportback TDI - Diesel Emission MOT Test 4 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Car is in for an MOT. It failed last year on the emission test. Used Dipetane since then, Forte Diesel Cleaner in with new fuel filter when serviced. Also sprayed EGR cleaner into intake. My annual mileage is around 1000 miles so not ideal but shame to sc***. -
Mercedes GLB - DPF 27 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Sat in the Merc dealership this week waiting for my car to be sorted, eavesdropping on a conversation with another customer. Basically an couple with a Mercedes GLB on which the particulate filter had clogged up. They had tried all sorts but the answer was a new one. -
BMW i3 - An icon gets a reprieve 20 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I loved the idea of the BMW motorcycycle engine in the rear just in case the charge runs out, this car is an icon. Brilliant performance but expensive to make, even the £31,850 price tag with the government grant which dissapears soon, doesn't cover the manufacturing costs. -
2008 Fiat 500 Sport (petrol) - Fiat 500 clutch problem 2 Jan 2016 (Forum)
[endif]-->My 2008 Fiat 500 Sport 1.4 (petrol) has recently developed a clutch problem. Although 7 years old, the car is very low mileage, having covered just 9,000 from new. When cold, clutch actuation and gear selection is fine, but after approx 60 mins running there is a pronounced ‘screech’ whenever the clutch pedal is depressed, and the ‘bite point’ is lost, making gear-changing difficult. -
Toyota Yaris Hybrid 1.5 CVT 100 PS - Leeway on exceeding service intervals 8 Sep 2015 (Forum)
My Yaris Hybrid is 6 months old with 9600 miles on it. It's almost due its first service (I require 2 services per year due to covering 20000 annually.) The earliest date the dealership can book the car in is 11 days from now (24th August) but I have plans for this weekend and next week and will end up exceeded 10000 miles by then. -
R172 MERCEDES SLK 250 AMG - BRAKE DUST 3 Jul 2015 (Forum)
After the shortest of drives barely using the brakes the alloy wheels especially the fronts are covered in black dust & it's driving me nuts. Go on a short holiday & at the end of the first day the wheels look rubbish, so I take a collapsable bucket & sponge & pathetic it might be wash the wheels in the hotel/B & B car park!!! -
VW Golf GT TDI 150 mk7 - Rusting brake disc hubs 10 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Not what I expected from a shiny new VW. Local dealer and VW UK both acknowledge this issue but apparently rectification not covered under warranty or as goodwiil gesture. The issue is considered a cosmetic defect only. Are rusty disc hubs a problem with new VW cars and do they always take this stance? Thoughts appreciated. -
SEAT Toledo - A long shot I know but... 13 Sep 2013 (Forum)
... if anyone spots a blue SEAT Toledo car with the registration A13 XEO, please let me know. Someone falsely used my address when starting an insurance policy for it - presumably so that he could drive around on the cover note then not be traced when time came to pay the premium! -

Citroen C4 Picasso - Windscreen reflection problem 17 Jul 2012 (Forum)
It does not bother me much but the phenomenon triggers migrains and eye strain/pain for my wife. Using the sun visors only partly covers the effect. Strangley we do not have the other common problem of the dashboard being reflected. Advice please, are there any non reflective coatings for example, otherwise we might have to sell the car. -
skoda superb - built in satnav updates 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hello each, I realise this subject has probably been covered previously, but humour me. My '55 plate Superb has the makers built in sat nav system. The original dvd disc was over £120 +VAT six years ago. I am loath to shell out an even larger amount now just to update a few new roads etc. and the car may last another 6 years or 6 months; who knows.
