Vauxhall Zafira Tourer 2015 - Two interim services in a row 21 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I paid for the service and mot via motor easy. However, Halford autocentre charged me an additional £78 when I went to collect the car. On the receipt, the charge breakdown is £48 for service and £30 for MOT... I queried this charge as the car did not have any additional work and I already paid for both service and MOT via motor easy. -
BMW Runflat Tyres 4 Jan 2016 (Ask HJ)
I have a BMW 3 Series Touring (320d X Drive) with P7 runflats. I value the security they provide in being able to continue driving, albeit for a limited... -
Peugeot 206 - Peugeot 206 gear change problem 2 Oct 2014 (Forum)
The mechanic who fitted the clutch checked the auto adjust clutch cable and said it was fully serviceable. Within a year, the same problem arose - couldn't get the car into gear so the AA towed the car to a garage in Uxbridge who replaced the clutch cable - problem seemed to be solved. A month or so ago (a year after the clutch cable had last been replaced) the same problem arose - breakdown service towed the car to a garage in Glasgow who replaced the clutch, guide, fork and clutch cable. -
Ford Fiesta pulling to one side 7 Nov 2016 (Ask HJ)
I have a Ford Fiesta 1.6 diesel (2006 model). I've only had it a few months, but have had nothing but trouble with it. The car pulls to the left intermittently... -
Problem Polo Repurchased 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
A full-on Rejection may have to take place within a 'reasonable' time, but your rights under the legislation above last 6 years. My initial complaint was made 15 months after I bought the car. If you sue for a partial refund and can prove the car has been faulty, then dollars to doughnuts the retailer will settle to avoid going to court. During this process I gleaned loads of info from this site, so thanks to you all, and in particular HJ. -
Suzuki Baleno - Problems with new (used) car 29 Jan 2020 (Forum)
[endif]--> Three weeks ago, I bought a 2016 ‘used approved’ Baleno boosterjet. Impressed with the car and the warranty (includes UK and euro breakdown and MOT warranty). I bought it from a dealer two hours away – I couldn’t find one closer on spec and on budget (£7k). Bought on PCP. -
Ford Mondeo - Mondeo Steering Knock when warm on motorway 19 Dec 2019 (Forum)
I priced a replacement flywheel and for etc. and looked to be around £1k - which would be fine if that was definitely the issue... but I don’t want to spend £1k for it not to be the issue. Also - if I continue driving the car over Christmas (mechanic closed until 2nd Jan) and it was the flywheel - would this potentially cause any other damage? Will I know when it’s really bad and not to risk driving it in fear of a breakdown? -
Clutch failure on 2014 Ford C-MAX 20 Aug 2015 (Ask HJ)
I bought an ex-demo from dealership with about 50 miles on the clock. At 3000 miles the clutch needed replacing due to "complete burn out". DMF and slave... -
Audi 80 vs BMW 3-series for £2,000 20 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I make it a golden rule never to consider anything without a full service history, which means there are a lot more Audis in the frame than Beemers. 8 valve 80's seem to abound more than the 16-valve version, but my brother has done his homework on the insurance front and seems dead set on the 16-valve version. Has anyone had experience of running one of these cars, and knows what to look for? I've consulted Car-By-Car Breakdown of course, but any other points would be much appreciated. I used to run a 1984 80 quattro which was good as gold, but I have no experience of later Audis. -
Faulty SEAT Ibiza - am I entitled to a refund? 29 Jan 2015 (Ask HJ)
Three months ago I bought a 2011 SEAT Ibiza Cupra 1.4 TSI with 180PS. Since then I have noticed that the car uses a lot of oil. About a litre every 1000... -
M25 services (lack of) 23 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Things are different in America, in the mid-west at least. There are service stations every few miles, or so it seems, and some are no more than a small car park and a toilet block, immaculately clean and with somebody always in attendance. I appreciate that large areas of the mid-west are undeveloped and there is plenty of room for rest areas. Contrast the area surrounding the M25 that I’m referring to: prime real estate in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. -
MOT Test - Another Tax ? 14 Dec 2008 (Forum)
"This is primarily because the annual MOT failure rate is already high (around 35 per cent) and if we were to reduce frequency, there is a very real risk that the number of unroadworthy cars would increase significantly. In turn, the number of road casualties would inevitably increase.' Of course, no breakdown of the 35% failure rate is offered. Now judging by my own experiences of MOT failures, I wonder how many of those failures are down to incorrect number plates and their letter spacing, chips in the windscreen or emission readings, non of which would make a vehicle more likely to crash and kill people in my view. -
VW Golf 1.4 Estate - First impressions - goodbye Civic hello Golf 23 Oct 2019 (Forum)
The tyres are Michelin Energy which shouldn't be noisy. Maybe once I turn on the radio, get some gear in the boot and stop my new car obsessiveness it won't be an issue. Its just been serviced so I wont need to shell out for another year but that will be much more than the Honda which had unbelievably cheap main dealer service with free MoT and breakdown. -
ford mondeo 2002 tdci - mondeo 2002 tdci cuts out 30 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Hi all, A month ago my mondeo started to cough and burp and 400 yards later completely stlled with a fair amount of blue/black smoke from the exhaust (only whilst it was stalling) I called the rac and whilst I was waiting the car re-started and seemed fine only to breakdown round the corner. When the rac arrived he couldnt get any fault codes to come up and I explained what happened and there was NO warning lights what so ever. -
Leon glitch 16 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I'll let you know of any developments and try to get more specific information on the root cause of the fault - it may be worth including in the Car-by-Car breakdown. If anyone else has come across this in a Leon or other VAG TDi (especially the 110 bhp version), I'd like to hear what happened in other instances. -

Will my Volkswagen Golf Plus pass its MoT without having had the emissions fix done? 31 Jul 2017 (Ask HJ)
Given the recent complaints of cars breaking down or going into limp mode following the emissions fix, I'm considering not proceeding with my own recall... -
Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - HGF and what next ? 26 May 2009 (Forum)
The fan whirred even though the keys weren't in the ignition. Leaving the fan running all day seemed like a cue for another breakdown so I replaced the plug. The expansion tank was barely damp so I topped it up and started the engine. A steady stream of bubbles came down the thin pipe from the cylinder head. Speeding up the engine produced a blast of foam from this pipe into the expansion tank. -
Pug 406 (2.0 16v Petrol) Engine Problem 6 Jan 2006 (Forum)
possibly oily?), as, it turns out, so does the inside of the car now (and, i am assured by the misses, upon climbing into bed, did I!). This morning, popped the bonnet, nothing of any interest to see. (at least to my untrained eye). It's sunday so it'll have to wait to be seen by a garage tomorrow (annoying getting a shoulder op on Tuesday, so garage will have to keep it for a while / deliver it home to me @ some point!
