Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 03 2.2 Auto gears thumping 5 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2003 Vectra 2.2 DTi Automatic. Just recently, every now and again, after a long journey, when stopping, enering an urban area for example, when I set off again after putting into Neuteral, it thumps into gear and not sooth like it does at a higher speed. -
Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 1999 1.4 Instrument panel failure 2 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The instrument panel on my 1999 1.4 Polo petrol automatic has stopped working completely - no speedo, tacho, clock, petrol gauge, etc. I've checked the relevant fuses and they're fine, so I've been told I have to take this to a VW dealer to be looked at. -
Abandoned Cars 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The topic of abandoned cars comes up often but today right outside a local Tesco Extra I saw a car I thought unlikely to see abandoned. A 1998 R reg BMW 5 Series 540i automatic. Who'd have thought someone would dump this. But I've not been for a few days and this car is not parked and someone has placed an abandoned car notice inside on the dash. Apart from someone's smashed the rear tail lights (probably has a dodgey history) it looked in good condition. -
New Drink Driving Limits 30 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The proposals also suggest graduated penalties including first offence 6 points for 5 years and an automatic ban for 2 offences. Sounds reasonable to me. While I don't advocate dd, it has always seemed harsh to potentially lose your livelihood, home etc for what could have been a slight transgression. -
Peugeot 406 Coupe (1997 - 2003) - 99 V6 - Water collecting somewhere in the bodywork 22 Jan 2008 (Forum)
T reg, V6 Automatic, 3.0 litre I know it has been raining, but the car has been largely parked on my driveway, and not driven through any floods, at the moment when accelerating or braking you can hear a large amount of water sloshing around I think either in the passenger door or in the sills under the door passenger side. -
Ruptured Achilles tendon 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Last Friday I suffered a left foot ruptured achilles tendon which i have been told will take at least 3 months to treat. I am considering changing my Nissan X-Trail for an automatic vehicle to carry my wife and two small dogs. Would I still be allowed to drive such a vehicle with a plaster cast on my left leg, if so any recommendations as to what car would be suitable with a price of approx £13 K Looking forward to your advice. -

Hard starting scooter if left for 3 days 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have a 125 honda scooter (automatic). It has been serviced since new (plugs and oil always changed frequently). It seems to start first time in all weathers if it is used daily, which I use to work. There are no obvious signs of engine wear or anything like that. -
1991 BMW 525 Auto Gearbox Problem 4 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Problem is it drives as though its stuck in one gear (3rd I think) and is very slow on pick-up and sounds as though the automatic clutch is slipping. Also the wee message display below the speedo reads TRANS something and to refer to the owners manual... very handy... if you actually have one!! Anyone any ideas?? All help gratefully received. -
Over-sensitive petrol pump nozzles 22 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The attendent said that they had just had new nozzles fitted to some of the pumps and that they were "a touch sensitive". She wasn't joking! The lenght of time that automatic cut-out nozzles have been around I'm surprised that they haven't got them right yet. -- L'escargot. -
Golf MkV headlights 23 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My Golf was imported from abroad and has the headlights/rear lights permanetly on when the ignition is on (as per Volvos). What I would like to do is to set them so that they automatically come on when darkness falls, iaw the auto light switch setting. My book suggests this can be done via the MFA computer, but the VW agent says this is not an option on my model and when asked whether he could do it, the answer was not yes, but probably with difficulty. -

Rover 75 for 50% off list 15 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Ok so everybody on here seems to be talking about getting at least 50% off of list price for a new Rover 75. If I can get a fully loaded diesel automatic connoisseur for £12k then I'd be happy. Can anyone come up with a link selling Rovers for somewhere near half price? Clearly there's a need to then negotiate a bit more in person to get things as low as possible but I haven't really found anything remotely close to 50% of list. -
Auto advice please 12 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Due to a dodgy lower back I have been advised that my next car should be an automatic. I have driven auto hire cars, but never owned one. Although I can't afford brand new, I do fancy something mid size with a bit of go - not necessarily a hot hatch, warm would suffice. The 150 diesel Leon seems to have a fantastic combination of acceleration and econonmy, but is manual. -

Insurance cover in EU countries 25 Nov 2003 (Forum)
from the UK. TPO cover would be fine, so do I have to inform my insurers of this fact - or am I automatically covered for this period? BTW, insurance in Ireland is quite pricey!:-( Cheers. -
306 TD Clutch Cable 2 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've got used to it now, but have since heard that there's a problem with the cable drying out, preventing the automatic adjustment from functioning, leading to premature clutch wear and failure. Is there any way of knowing whether this is happening other than a slightly stiff clutch pedal? I'd like to get it sorted sooner rather than later if it might lead to a £300 bill. -
Cambelts and auto boxes 13 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether the life expectancy of a cambelt is any higher if the engine is mated to an automatic gearbox? The belt on my Citroën XM 2.0 turbo has lasted 179k miles (the car's worth less than the cost of replacing the belt, so I've nothing to lose!). Is this just good fortune, or does the auto box 'cushion' the shock loading experienced by an engine during manual gear changes? -
Volvo 850 - 1995 9 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I am now the proud owner of the above vehicle. It has done 74,000 miles and is an automatic, 2-litre 20 valve model. Does anyone have any top tips regarding when the timing belt should be changed, what would be a good interval for oil changes (mainly urban use, with the odd blast up & down the full length of the M1), which oil to use, etc etc. -
