  • Past quality 8 Feb 2022 (Forum)
My recent experience with our Volvo XC60 has soured me. I remember the Volvo’s we had as a family in the 80’s with fondness. They were solid, comfortable and safe and I don’t recall any of them ever going wrong yet from my recent experience and post purchase homework (which should’ve been done beforehand) It seems the now Chinese owned firm have lost their way regarding quality.
  • Volvo V50 - Charges for returning a faulty vehicle 19 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I recently bought a Volvo V50 on the understanding it was in good condition and without faults or defects. An inspection revealed major flaws. Although it was purchased with a new MOT, the car failed another MOT within 1 week of purchase.
  • Next Car Advice/Recommendation... 27 Oct 2011 (Forum)
About eight years ago I had a 2001 Citroen Saxo 1.6 VTR which was abruptly written off at a set of traffic lights.  As a result of this I went totally safety conscious for the next car and got a 1999 Volvo S40 1.8 XS. At the time I was doing a commute of about 20 miles a day but some time later, due to a change in job, this doubled to 40 miles a day.  I liked the size and comfort of the Volvo but, due to the petrol costs and a few other issues, the costs were creeping up and I looked for something more economical.
  • Volvo V50 - Dealer mis-described car, my rights and refund? 21 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, I am after abit of advice. On 28/12/10 I went to visit a second hand car dealer to look at a Volvo V50, now on the advert it said 1 owner and 47k. When I went to the dealer I looked over the car and took it for a spin, all was fine and correct. I checked the service history and all was fine too.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 01 2.0 Indicator stalk replacement - Haynes manual 19 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Refit is a direct reversal of removal, but align the screw holes on the switch first to ensure the multipins line up (you can't see them at all so you have to do this blind. It is typical Volvo though in that everything seems to slot together naturally correctly, but you could in theory line it up wrong and bend the pins. The most difficult bit of the whole job is ensuring the rubber gaiters on the stalk engage properly with the holes on the column as you refit it.
  • 7 seater car 9 Jun 2022 (Forum)
I want something that is obviously safe - I’ve looked at zafira and those back seats seem to have limited protection at the back. Also need to be able to fit a double buggy in there somewhere too. I’m considering volvo xc90, kia sorento at the moment but any other suggestions or advice welcome. thank you in advance
  • Switch for swapping headlights for driving abroad 26 Nov 2021 (Forum)
We are thinking about buying a new car. So far shortlisted a volvo v60, merc b class and honda civic (thanks in part to these forums). My wife is French and typically we go over to France a couple of times a year. I seem to remember reading that some cars have a switch that modifies the angle of the headlight beam.

  • SPQR Tappet Adjuster 27 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Many years ago, I bought a SPQR tappet adjuster, which was used quite often on my Volvo 122S. For the last 25 years, it has sat in my tool box, waiting to be used again. Now I want to use it, I cannot remember the finer details of its use. I have contacted Sykes Pykavant, but they do not even know of its existance now.
  • whats the future for older diesels? 31 Mar 2017 (Forum)
In light of recent comments in the media etc re. diesels being polluting (I've read things about scrappage allowance for diesels) what is the future for older diesel cars? ie the year 2000 to 2010 and the likes of the BMW 530D, Merc 320 CDI and Volvo D5. Will it be that in buying one of these within a few yrs they will be rendered scrap value?! Will the road tax be increased for these type of vehicles so its punitive or will these cars being older be left alone?
  • 2002 MK1 Subaru Forester 2,0 Sport - 2002 MK1 Subaru Forester SEATS 15 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Regarding the seats, my back is very fussy about them. Although I will not be doing big miles I wonder if Saab or Volvo front seats would fit without much complication. If not any suggestion on what manufacturer's(not Subaru!) seats would.   Thanks
  • VW Passat - Best place to sell a car 30 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I had our Passat listed as an ebay classified ad for 28 days till it expired. The only interest we had was someone wanting to swap it for a Volvo S40.  I'd initially shunned Autotrader seeing as it costs so much to list nowadays and I'm worried that it will cost me so much with no interest. Where should I list the car for sale?
  • exporting of used increasing? 9 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I'm seeing ever increasing volumes of decent looking used vehicles waiting at the quaysides to be exported. Ranging from Mondeo's to Volvos' to Landcruisers and Shoguns etc...say P reg to 02 ish. Not so many small cars. Are used buyers including dealers noticing a shortage of decent *sizeable* used cars and will this outflow affect supply in a big way i wonder.
  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 06 2.0 d suspension raising? 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I love hte car, but I am a farm consultant and keep popping the front bumper off the car when it goes down a dip, or hits a rut in a farm drive. I do not want to go to the expense of buying an audi allroad or volvo cross country, but would just like to raise the toyota. Can anyone help?
  • Comparative reliability 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
It accurs to me on browsing down the makes of cars featured in the forum Technical section that it would provide an interesting ongoing record of the comparative reliability of makes and models. For instance, I have just scanned back through several pages and cannot find a single Volvo problem for any model, old or new. That presumably means they are either very reliable, or have all been scrapped as hopelessly unreliable. Does anybody keep a running total? Would it tell us anything useful?

  • Pirelli P6000 Tyres 22 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I currently have four P6000 tyres 225/50 17" on my Volvo S80. Just managed to get a nail in the back left tyre, and rather than replace with another the same, may fit two Goodyear Eagle F1s, on the basis that the ride on my car is too bumpy, and I was hoping these tyres (on rear axle only, too cheap to fork out £500 for 4 new ones) might fix the problem.
  • Car buying advice 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I'm looking to replace my Volvo S40 TD. I need a car which could do 80 miles commuting trip daily plus almost 200 miles per week for pizza delivery job. I would be doing 25-30k miles each year. I'm ideally looking for a diesel car with a modest budget of around £1k.
  • New car: 2nd registered owner 22 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Been offered a very good price on a new Volvo from an online supplier but they say: The discounts we are able to offer you are achieved through volume sales. We achieve these discounts by first registering the car into the name of our suppliers who hold discount terms with the manufacturer.
  • What discount for least desirable colour 31 Oct 2006 (Forum)
You probably would if it was a bit wacky and not quite to your taste. So my question is, how much should I discount the value of a white Volvo V70?? (Not Ex-Police FYI) I would prefer blue or silver but like anything if it's at the right price then I'm not really that fussy. Do Glass's valuations account for non-mainstream colours??
