  • 306 TD Clutch Cable 2 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've got used to it now, but have since heard that there's a problem with the cable drying out, preventing the automatic adjustment from functioning, leading to premature clutch wear and failure. Is there any way of knowing whether this is happening other than a slightly stiff clutch pedal? I'd like to get it sorted sooner rather than later if it might lead to a £300 bill.

  • Audi A3, 1.6l, 2010 - Audi A3 doesn't start sometimes 21 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Which took few times to start the car, after 5 -6 times the car started. Then it was ok for a few days. It easy starts with jump leads, but with battery boost leads takes few min, few times to crank the car. * When it's not starting the engine cranking, but no start. Jump leads, no problem. * I found bad cigarette lighter fuse.
  • 1988 golf 1.3 electrical fault 10 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I know what the problem is, but not the remedy. When this happens the car has no spark, so every time when this happens I disconnect the HT lead from the distributor and earth that end of the lead to the engine block. I leave the other end connected to the coil and turn the ignition key to see if there is a spark produced by the coil. (note I don't turn the engine over I just turn the ignition on and off) to see if there is any current coming from the coil.
  • Ford Fiesta - 2003 Fiesta Zetec misfire - water in plug chamber 6 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Plenty of results of internet searches about this seemingly common problem. Took off a plug lead and one side of the plug chamber had half a thimblefull of water in it. Plugs had tracking marks, diagnostic said misfire cylinder 1. Cleaned all out, cleaned leads, replaced plugs. A few weeks later, the fault is back, this time the water in the other chamber.
  • Ford Focus 1999 1.6 Ghia - Firing on 3 cylinders (I think!!) 26 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Hello, my brothers Focus suddenly started firing on 3 cylinders.  Thats how it seems anyway. Plugs, leads, coil-pack all replaced (they were over-due anyway) still the same :( I tried to identify which cylinder wasn't firing by removing a lead at a time so when I removed the lead on the cylinder that was at fault there would be no difference in tick over.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 96 1.4 Lumpy running 13 Jan 2009 (Forum)
My next line of enquiry will be to take the plugs out and check them to see if they are sparking. The only thing bothering me is I seem to recall that using jump leads on the car could sometime cause the electronic 'brain' to stop working properly. Is this likely and if so would it not just stop working all together rather than just on a few cylinders? What's more likely plugs, leads or something else?
  • How to Cut Fuel Prices 4 May 2002 (Forum)
No one needs to stop buying fuel. All we need to do is collectively boycott the service stations of the two leading oil companies and buy our fuel from their competitors. Faced with a near total collective boycott of their product, the two leading oil companies will have no alternative but to cut prices, which in turn will lead to a price war, which in turn will pull retail prices back under 70p a litre.
  • Ford Ka - Ford KA missfire, ANY HELP APRECIATED 24 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2002 ford ka with the endura engine about 85k miles. a few days ago it went from running well to develop a heavy missfire, will not pull and the engine light has come on. with the engine running lumpy I can remove plug lead 2 and 3 and nothing changes, but when removing 1 or 4 the engine cuts out.   I have replaced the plugs, leads, coil pack, but the situation is still there.
  • Ford Focus - engine misfire 20 Sep 2011 (Forum)
It does not happen under hard acceleration. My local independant says it is moisture causing tracking on the spark plug leads where they enter the engine and Ford recommend a dose of their silicon spray. Has anyone heard about this? It is not a great problem because it does not happen too much. They are the original plug leads so maybe it is to be expected?
  • Ford Fiesta V reg 1.25 Zetec - Servicing and parts? 16 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Hi It looks like the problems I'm experiencing with my car (issue posted in technical forum) may be down to plugs, HT leads and a good service. I know it varies, but how much would I expect to be paying for: a full service (what does this include?) spark plugs (and leads?) set of brake flexi-hoses for the brake pipes Would appreciate if someone could give an indication of what to shell out for the above, inclusive of parts & labour.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Water around spark plugs 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Changed the plugs March 08, when the plug lead was removed to gain access to spark plug I found water around base of the plug, I used a sponge to remove before changing the plug. The other 3 were the same. Have just changed the leads because car suffering from hesitancy when cold, there was a small amount of water around the plugs.

  • Peugeot 205 - Starting Problem 6 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Sometimes you turn the ignition and the warning lights come on but when you turn the key further to engage the starter all the electics go off completely ie clock, warning lights, the lot. So, open the bonnet, disconnect the quick release positive battery lead, then reattach it and everything back to normal. Except yesterday this quick fix didn't work and I had to jump start it from another car. Could this be a battery fault, a dodgy lead (which looks fine) or some strange Peugeot electrical gremlin?
