  • SEAT Cordoba (1994 - 2003) - Running a VAG TDi on vegetable oil 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Is it ok or do they blow up? I used to run a 1.8 TD 1996 Ford Mondeo and a 1996 Volvo 850 TDi estate on 30-70% (depending on how warm it was) and they both got along ok with the only problem being on 100% vege oil they didn't boost, but as soon as added diesel they where ok again.
  • Should I buy an ex police car?? 19 Mar 2009 (Forum)
hi, Can anyone tell me if buying an ex police car is good value for money, or they all thrashed and abused. I was not thinking of the usual squad cars you see everyday on the high street, but more the volvo size cars. I would like to think they are regularly serviced, but might also be regularly abused! has anyone bought one in the past? What was your experience? Many thanks
  • 'Motorway cruiser': what makes a good one? 10 Feb 2009 (Forum)
In a discussion we had last autumn about the relative merits of my ageing but reliable Volvo S60 and a new C30 as my regular solo motorway transport, Honest Superhans offered this opinion: ?the C30 shares its platform with the Focus (no bad thing but not a motorway cruiser like the S60).
  • SAAB 9-3 Sportwagon (2005 - ) - Buying advice please! 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
We about to trade our 2004 Vectra CDTI 117k miles for either a 9-3Sportswagon Diesel, A4 Avant TDI, Volvo V50 2.0D or a Honda CRV diesel. The car is for my partner and whilst i'd prefer the Audi because of build and proven running gear, her in doors prfers the Swedish or Japanese option. Any information/ opinions would be appreciated.

  • Wide boot? 6 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The current Merc Sports Coupe is fine with the back seat down, but then noisy. I'm looking at the BMW 3 series Touring, Volvo S60 or Subaru Forester [I had a Legacy but it's large for mostly town driving]. All are around the same reasonable length. Can anyone suggest others to check?

  • Bigger than the average mortgage 30 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The money raised is against all it's US properties/businesses. It does not include Landrover, Jaguar and Aston although it does include stock in Volvo - suggesting that LR, Jaguar and Aston could still be sold. Are they getting desperate or what ? I dread to think what would happen if the restructring programme is not successful.
  • 2007 Car of the Year 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Citroën C4 Picasso, Fiat Grande Punto, Ford S-Max, Honda Civic, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207, Skoda Roomster and Volvo C30. As much as I would like to say Civic I think the S max should win it for combining practicality and driving experience.

  • How much does the chancellor get? 28 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I was idly thinking of buying a new car for swmbo to replace aging Volvo. Years ago we used to reckon that if you drove off the forcourt with a new car and returned the next day to px it for another you would lose around 25%. Does this apply today? I bought a couple of new Padas years ago but have gone the 2nd hand route for a long time now.
  • What car gets in the way? 29 Apr 2006 (Forum)
It seems that almost every time a car gets in your way, blocks an exit, double parked, wrong lane trying to push back in, etc, in my experience it's almost invariably a Volvo estate. Take a look next time, it's probably the same car at the head of that queue!

  • Changing my car 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'm currently in the process of getting a new (used) car and I've pretty much narrowed my options, based on price, performance, reliability and looks down to a Volvo S40. It will either be a 2.0T or a T4, which has to be newer than 2000. What I need to know is, in real life terms, is there a big difference in performance between the 2.0T and the T4? I'm moving from an 1.6 Alfa 145 by the way, so it's going to be a fairly hefty step up!
  • Used Peugeot 407s - any feedback? 26 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I'm not a Peugeot fan, but the 407 does stand out from the crowd. As a potential replacement for my Volvo S60, they look really good value at under £11k for a 54 plate 2.0 petrol. And living in France as I do, servicing must surely be cheap and easy to arrange? What's the catch?! Anyone out there own one or drive one?
  • Garage's Hourly Rate 14 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I am a new poster on this forum and I thought that you could help me with a small question I have a Volvo S80 and my main dealer is quoting £65 per hour + vat to work on it, does that seem normal to you guys or a little high? Also do you know any good independants in either Leicester or B'ham that could work on my car, if so a rough hourly rate?
  • High Fuel consumption. Renault Laguna 11 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have a Renault Laguna 2.0L 16v 98 volvo lump NQ7 or N7Q, I have had the exhaust replaced after the cat secton, as it was blowing a little. The fuel consumption has gone out the roof, this was the case before the replacement exhaust. its doing something like low 20's. which is alarming.
  • Buy used car at auction now or Jan? 14 Dec 2004 (Forum)
So I've got about £11k burning a hole in my pocket, am hoping to buy an ex-fleet diesel automatic car (audi a4 / passat / volvo s60 or equivalent). I've been reading the auction news for a few months now and figure I'm ready to have a go myself. Question is - will I get more for my money now or after christmas? Cheers Richard
  • XC90 - reduced waiting list? 1 Nov 2004 (Forum)
This car has exceeded all expectations. For the benefit of anyone put off by long waiting lists, the salesman reckons that Volvo are really starting to push these cars through to the UK in greater numbers. Mine arrived a month earlier than planned, and as I drove mine away a transporter with six or seven arrived at the showroom.
  • New diesel tips please 21 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Next week I'm going to be picking up the new family transport, a Volvo XC90 diesel. This will be the first diesel car I've owned. Apart from boring SWMBO to death with pleas about not forgetting this when filling the tank, what else should I know about owning, driving and running a diesel car?
