  I bought it - it had a full service history and 12 months MOT, however (regrettably) I didn't clarify any warranty, Since using the car more regularly two faults quickly appeared  - 1. air con not working - I had it regassed, but that quickly leaked due to a split pipe which has now been sorted and regassed again (total bill £125). 2. a knocking noise from drivers side front wheel - originally diagnosed by my local garage as a front side shock absorber, (cost of parts and labour £200).

  I have the above, obviously petrol, and the expansion tank bubbles over all the time (steaming). However, the engine does not overheat, the heating and air-con work fine, the fan woks with direct 12v to it but never comes on and the bottom rad hose is hot when the bottom one is clock cold. I've emptied the coolant, and can't get a full amount back in (short by a couple of litres).

  After te warranty ran out I took out one with the AA and paid £467 yearly. This yer was the first time I made a claim, my air con rad went so I got it replaced. I paid the £50 excess and thought I had done well as a new rad was in the region of £350 plus the labour etc. Today I phoned them to cancel the policy as I was buying a new car and 2 years Nissan warranty was part of the deal.

  Having checked all levels and (my bad) sorted a couple of slightly low ones, car had been behaving but still no fans. 3 days later slight smell like smouldering rubber but no other drastic issues. When using the air con you can hear a fan going but was on the road so not had a chance to check under bonnet to see if main fans kicked in. 3. Went to start car this morning and nothing!! Dash lights appear and are slightly dim.

   The salvage firm or whoever opened the bonnet have done yet more damage to the vehicle by opening the bonnet and have bent the radiator and air con rad too.    Basically, it's been written off as a Cat C, but we haven't talked money yet as I wanted a second estimate as £4k seemed far too high when the chassis is fine.

  I was thinking a 1.4 Yaris Diesel, at abou £4k on 2005, or Polo / Fiesta equivalent for about 1k more? Or clio? Air con is an absolute must Don't like bigger or bland cars like Mondeo / vectra / Astra and would rather avoid these but not to the detriment of economy although saving on my insurance will be a big factor (currently best quote is £1.1k in my group 18 Porsche).

  We both expected a derisory offer which would give us a benchmark to get the ball rolling. It is totally immaculate and has the sunroof option as well as Air Con and is in metellic silver. I knew little about this version of the Polo GTI, i now believe it was only available for 18 months and he tell's me is the 1.8 Turbo. We know it was not a big seller at the time, a niche car i guess.

  Looks fine, no corrosion or dodgy wires. 2) Engine light (not spanner) Comes on about once a week and when it does the air con seems to 'warm up' - still works but not very well (normally very good). I have a memoscan fault code reader, it sees there is a fault but I get the code NA (not available?). The reader can reset the fault light and then everythng is fine.

  But a bit rougher though. Like a drier gurgling (if that could be possible... Sorry). It does not stop if I turn the air con off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to get an appointment with the dealer who sold me the car, but they seem to be playing for time. But we don?t have much time, as we have to travel to the continent in 2 weeks.

  Dropped the car off at 7.30 am (useful for me) and was given the keys to a 09 Golf estate. Had a call at about 10 am to ask if I wanted the (recommended) brake fluid change and air con service inc 'refresh'. I said yes to both. Picked the car up at 4.30pm as arranged. They had also replaced a rear wheel bearing and the driver's seatbelt under warranty (following test drive, not at my request).

  It started off just doing it when I turn the engine on but now it does it in a kind of two tone clicking and sometimes it will do it continuously. Tried turning the air con off but this doesnt make any difference. I am slowly losing confidence in this car and am seriously thinking of getting rid but i would love to know whats up or if anyone else has had this type of problem.

  I've seen this ad at work: Seat ibiza,1.4,5 door,04 plate,black,32000 miles,new manufactors engine fitted 1000 miles ago,1 previous owner,air con,remote c.locking,f,fogs,p.a.s,e.windows,6 months mot 4 months tax.£3250 This was not put up by the seller but his friend. The seller says that he didn't check the oil and went onto the motorway and that's why a new engine had to be fitted.

  I've no trouble with the 1.6 engine as it will be a second (practical) car for the wife and kids. The only issues I can find on the petrol engine models are regular reports of air-con packing up. The dealer is a well established operation, with decent premises/workshops and certainly doesn't have an 'Arthur Daley' image. When I turned up unannounced this morning, the car was actually in the workshop having the passenger door/wing sanded in preparation for repair of a small scratch/dent.

  I would like it to have electric windows, central locking, power steering, and be at least a 1.4 litre. Not too fussed about air con etc, but that would be nice. Ideally it would not be a lot bigger in length than what I have now, but I understand it will be because of the extra 2 doors. The next problem is my budget. I reckon I could stretch to £4,000.

  VW dealers still seem to want the wrong side of £7k for any 6 speed Golf diesel as well.. It is a lovely example to be fair. In silver, with the optional electric sunroof (and std air con), and it genuinely is immaculate. I know it has been very reliable in the time she's had it. The MAF sensor was replaced (with a genuine VAG part) a few months ago, and a there was a central locking fault early on which was sorted first go under warranty.

  Although I'll probably go for the same engine with 130 HP but with the Tiptronic gearbox (Tiptronic not available on the 174 HP version). Also has air-con, full electric windows/mirrors, leather seats, etc,etc Any thoughts from people thinking along the same lines or from anyone wha has actually gone down this route? I've still not convinced the boss (read wife) that this is a good idea, but I'm working on it.

  Took my "XXX" (3 year old car) into a XXX main dealer this week for a warranty job. The air-con was a bit smelly, and needed deodorising to remove the bacteria from the matrix. They kept it for the day, and when I collected it on Tuesday, all seemed fine. However I happened to check what they had done this morning and discovered that the dealer had removed the cabin pollen filter and not bothered to replace it with anything.
