Test driving cars 13 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Just heard about the Volvo unaccompanied test drives that apparently are done by the company directly at selected sites. Apparently they allow you to drive the car for a full hour without the presence of one of their reps sitting at your side. -

Pulling to the Left 18 Jun 2003 (Forum)
My old non-power-steering Volvo 440 ('G' reg) pulls to the left, it's not violent and it seems to be the same whether under braking or not. If you take your hands off the wheel it'll run into kerb within 3-4 seconds. Have checked tyre pressures and they're OK, it passed its MOT so I presume steering geometry and suspension bits are OK, anyone got any ideas? -
Smeary car bodywork 17 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi I've got a black 1997 Volvo S40 and when I clean and polish it I'm left with loads of smeary marks which can be seen when the sun shines directly on it. I've seen these sort of marks on other cars as well and just wondered if anyone knows how to get rid of them? -

Continous use of headlights - did I dream it? 5 Jan 2002 (Forum)
It may be me, but did I read or hear somewhere that in the not too distant future, new cars in the UK will have to be wired up so that the headlights are on all the time? (Like Volvo's etc.) Assuming that this is correct, I presume it's a European ruling. And isn't is a shame? If I am barking up the wrong tree and am getting confused, then sorry to cause a panic folks! -

Volvo S40 5th Gear Problems 20 May 2007 (Forum)
Hello, the car is a 1999 T reg volvo s40 2litre 16v wih 150k on the clock and FSH. the problem is since friday it has started to jump out of 5th gear. it only does it when lifting off the throttle at about 60-70mph, if you put it straight back in then it jumps out immediately, if you accelerate then put it in then it will stay in for awhile. at town speeds and below 50mph it is fine, there are no noises whines etc. from the box. -
Toyota Verso impressions and ruminations 10 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Some whooshing round the big door mirrors at motorway speed but nothing unpleasant. Noise levels generally similar to the Volvo, which has always been an impressive long-distance car. My highest cruising speed equates to about 2,500 rpm in 6th, which is the same as the Volvo in 5th but quite a bit higher than even a 1.8D S-Max. -

BMW - Ending supply of UK police cars 23 Jan 2023 (Forum)
The impatient among us no longer need to keep an eye out for X5s on the motorway. It's Volvo XC90s and VW Tuaregs from now on. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-64283859 -
Driving through floods 7 Sep 2022 (Forum)
v=l8AtXxEwNZA I'm amazed at the stupidity of some drivers - maybe I shouldn't be. Some very expensive bills looming, possibly some write-offs as well. Bit surprised by the Volvo at 4:07. The driver seemed sensible. The air intake must be very low on that model unless the alternator got soaked. I have a MK2 Polo many years ago that was great in floods as the air intake was right on top of the engine. -
any - boot size 2 May 2021 (Forum)
My Volvo 850 SE estate has suffered over lockdown and the winter. It's needing new calipers, discs, pads etc.. around £1000. So I've decided to replace it. Which similar car, at under £2000, has the same or greater boot capacity. -
V70 - Old girl reached a landmark 23 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Bought a Volvo V70 for just over 8k 5 years ago with 56k on the clock. Apart from routine maintenance and a cam belt last year a smash from a Post office van that laid her up for 2 months she has been a very good buy. -
Any - most awkward car to change a bulb on. 30 Apr 2018 (Forum)
There you are driving along and the bulb failure light comes on. Some cars are a doddle, old CLK rear bulbs were simple to do but the rear cluster on a V70 Volvo require several plasters on cuts to my hands after changing them. You have to take the headlight off the V70 to get at the bulb. Why do they make it so difficult? Apparently some Renaults need a major effort. -
Is a premium car worth the premium price ? 28 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Looking to update our car with a budget of around £10,000. Car wise do like smaller mercedes and volvo cars but also find others appealing, e.g. hyundai and kia. First two are obviously more expensive to buy and run. Is it worth the extra outlay to drive them ? I am completely open minded on this. -
£5k to spend on a new car. Recommendations please. 10 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Our family car has died - fuel pump on a 51 plate Volvo V40. It's not worth the repair bill. Consequently we're looking to buy a used car as a replacement and would appreciate everyone's opinions and suggestions. Our criteia is * a large family car (estate probably but not essential) * low running costs * good mpg * average mileage for age Recommendations gratefully received. -
Space saver wheels 22 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I was overtaken on the M74 on Sunday by a Volvo saloon (not entirely sure which model), travelling around 75/80mph. What caught my eye was that he had a skinny space-saver wheel on the nearside rear. I thought these had a recommended safe max speed of 56mph.
