  • Works Jaguar XJR-9 to go under the hammer 12 Nov 2014 (News)
The car is the third of just three cars made for the 1988 International Motorsport Association (IMSA) GT Championship, run by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR). It’s also the only remaining example of just two XJR-9 chassis ever made as purpose-built IMSA-spec cars. Prior to its most famous victory in 1990, chassis number 388 enjoyed two highly successful seasons in 1988 and 1989. In 1988, predominantly in the hands of Davey Jones and Jan Lammers, the car achieved four podium finishes and never finished a race outside of the top seven.

  • Big Increase in Cars Being Bought On ‘Logbook Loans’ 2 Jul 2014 (News)
Unfortunately, there is nothing to stop a car owner who mortgages his car in this way from obtaining a second ‘duplicate’ V5C ‘logbook’ from the DVLA. These can sometimes be spotted if the print-run of the V5C is much later than the date of last change of keeper. But usually, there is no indication that the keeper has sold his title to the car, and the ‘logbook loan’ company can repossess the car as soon as it discovers from DVLA records of ‘change of keeper’ that it has been sold.
  • Google to build self-driving cars 28 May 2014 (News)
The final prototypes will be ready later in 2014 or possibly early next year, although they're not for sale. Google will build 100 prototypes with manual controls and is then planning to run a small pilot scheme in California in the next few years. Google then hopes to develop the self driving technology further. "Our software and sensors do all the work. The vehicles will be very basic - we want to learn from them and adapt them as quickly as possible - but they will take you where you want to go at the push of a button.

  • A Grand Monday: Montego Mayfair 28 Apr 2014 (News)
Okay, so it's not 30 years old itself, but finding a 1984 Austin Montego, let alone one that's for sale, these days is so difficult as you'd be better off looking for a Lamborghini for Cortina money. But as we all know, Montegos got better the later in production run, so I'll hazard a bet that this one may well be more appealing than most.  The Montego is an interesting car. I've always been pretty ambivalent about them, finding their styling 'spiky', and all a bit matronly.

  • Sir Stirling Moss stars at Shelsley Walsh 29 Jul 2013 (News)
Pleasing the crowds was Jason Blott with his Ford Zephyr Utility (below) which left a stream of smoke from its tyres away from the start line on each of its demonstration runs. Another feature of the weekend was a large showing of MGs, ranging from the iconic 'B to coupes, saloons and Midgets competing in the Luffield Cars MGCC Speed Championship. • This Year's Bug Jam at Santa Pod is 19th-21st July 29 Jun 2013 (News)
Volksrod buggies will be assembling one of their creations, from scratch over the three days of the show. Can they turn a pile of disparate parts into a shiny new buggy in time to run up the strip on Sunday afternoon? There’s only one way to find out. Camping is a huge part of the Bug Jam experience and almost all Bug Jammers stay on site over the weekend. If the thought of sleeping in a saggy and draughty tent or the back of a rusty Type 2 doesn't appeal, why not treat yourself to one of Bug Jam’s ‘pre-pitched’ alternatives and 'glamp' in style?
  • Report: Peking to Paris, day 28 24 Jun 2013 (News)
Narrow, twisty hilly tarmac roads that snake their way through wooded slopes are regularly closed down for rallying in this region and the Slovak Association of Motor Sport run by Garbiela and Peter Szczecsinova have put into place a great plan to ensure the final days of the Peking to Paris offer a sting in the tail. The new leader of the European Trophy – for best effort from Kiev to Paris – is Tony and Lee Strelzow from Canada in their Derby Bentley Tourer on 30 hours 25 minutes, Bruce and Ben Washington in their Chrysler are second on 30:26:30, and the Woodcock Brothers’ Bentley is third, hard on the heels of the Chrysler on 30:26:56.
  • Report: Peking to Paris, day 25 21 Jun 2013 (News)
Today has seen a lot of activity at the local Bentley dealership here in Kiev, we saw no less than four Bentleys, including the Japanese R-Type still awaiting delivery of the essential head-gasket, with Bill and Mark of car 15 working furiously on getting the rebuilt engine of the Model A Ford 'flyer' running again. One of the media-Toyotas was put to good use in towing the Ford up and down the yard, it ran briefly but clearly there were timing issues and after a few coughs, bangs and back-fires, the engine called it a day.

Will they make to London in time for breakfast on Tuesday morning? When we last left the crew , they were on the verge of entering Egypt from Sundan.
  • World Cup Maxi to go under the hammer 31 Jan 2013 (News)
Ultimately, the team, made up of Tish Ozanne, Bronwyn Burrell and Tina Kerridge (below) didn't make it to the end of the event, being forced out through being out of time at a control point in Argentina, the car showed promise, running as highly as 35th out of 106 starters in the European rally stages.  Commenting recently on the end of their rally, Tina Kerridge remarked: 'It all comes flooding back to me - ‘flooding’ being the operative word.

  • VW to Support GTI International 23-24 June 31 May 2012 (News)
The main attraction is the quarter-mile sprint, essentially a drag strip where some of the fastest Volkswagens record zero to 60 times of 2.5 seconds, and the quarter-mile in 10 seconds.  Last year saw over 500 cars registered and over 1800 runs recorded. There is also a handling course, promoted by Bilstein and Eibach with support from Hankook tyres, where entrants can test their driving skills against the clock on a challenging slalom course.  Rather more sedate but no less popular is the ‘Show 'n' Shine', sponsored by Meguiar's, which features hundreds of the country's top show cars, many highly modified and customised, while others are preserved in immaculate standard classic condition.
  • Master mechanic, aged eight. 21 Feb 2012 (News)
Well, eight-year-old James Moss will probably be an expert before he is even able to drive his first car – a Citroen 2CV - which he’s been repairing with the help of his dad, Rob. Rob runs a specialist Citroen garage called Chevronic Centre Ltd, and so his son James has seen a lot of cars coming in and out, and likes to help where he can – but he wanted a car of his own.
