  Anyway, being aware of all the negative comments about it, what could I buy to get the same blend of style, value and performance of a MINI Cooper, but without the rough engines and supposedly poor reliability?

  Please help me 'cos I don't understand. Surely I am sure I'm not the only one. The new Mini is heading for both best and worst car? I presume this is by two distinct groups. I am a nearly-thirty DINKY, with a nice sensible Mondeo for long journeys and owned a "proper" mini which I loved when I was younger.

  As mentioned by HJ here https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/new-cars/2024-02/2024-mini-cooper/ the MINI Cooper's 1.5 engine is going up to 154ps - it's currently 136. Anyone know whether the BMW 118i which currently shares the 1.5 will also be getting the power hike? Just for the purposes of my next car daydreams.

  SWMBO wants an 18 month old Mini Clubman.  Fine by me and the two major sources are Mini dealers or Motorpoint. For what are effectively identical cars of age, mileage and specification, the Motorpoint cars are about 2-3% cheaper.

  I have bought a 1275 engine for my Mini that began life in a Metro. It comes with all ancilleries apart from the carb and manifold. What I need to know is will the manifold be ok for the bigger engine and are the carbs the same apart from the jet size; ie, can I rejet my existing carb or will I have to source one from a 1275 mini/metro?

  Has anyone converted an automatic mini to manual? My son's K reg. automatic failed and we've been quoted around £700 to repair, the cheaper option would be to fit a manual engine/ gearbox unit out of a mini or possibly a metro, apart from the obvious need for a clutch pedal is anyone aware of any problems I could expect while carrying this out?
