  My Mazda MX5 1.8i (1996) has just been serviced (91k miles). Within a mile of driving home the engine started smoking. I would describe it as bluish. With the bonnet open, it was clearly coming from under the righthand-side block, from what I understand to be the cylinderhead.

  When my 99 Mazda seriously overheated, I was advised by a Mazda main dealer to write it off. Took it to a smaller (recommended) garage for a second opinion. He too wrote in a report "uneconomical to repair". I suggested he look for a used engine.

  I've more or less eliminated my other choices - Avensis D4D (slower, more expensive and won't drive as well as the Mazda) and Accord CDTi (not that good for fuel economy, more cramped interior than I expected, pricey again). I like the looks of the 6 and it ticks most of my boxes in terms of ride, handling, size, affordability and practicality.

  Had more breakdown calls than care to remember"  "periodic symptoms, with cruise controller, safety systems, parking sensors, voice control and in dash screen just not working, tailgate lock and motors noisy, rattling interior, loose break caliper ....." I was going to choose the CX-30, but I have Mazda 6 in the past, and also had some electrial faults with alarm going off itself ect. I think Mazda weakest points is electrical components. Not sure now, if the CX-30 still would be the best choice.

    Mazda 2.0 ltr Petrol 165 ps saloon, fully loaded up boot and with ¾ tank full of petrol but two people only. A trip of 150 miles 'indicated' an astonishing 51.7 mpg. even with 4% calibration error equates to 49.6 so I'm well happy as they say.

    Just need to decide on cross climate which I could keep on after winter or full winter set with the hassle/expense of finding a second set of rims (or storing summer tyres)   Opinions welcome along with any experiences people have of the Mazda3 in snow. The Golf with winters was amazing but after my wet driving in the Mazda I'm a bit nervous about snow.

  (anyone had got a tourer and has the same issues in snow?) Second looking at 16/17 plate Honda CRV SR 1.6 D or Mazda CX5 Spoprt 2.2 D? I do know someone with the Mazda and runs it on summer tyres and had no issues last winter, CRV I’ve heard mixed reviews. Obviously both would perform best on winter tyres, but if I end up getting SUV and having to put winter tyres on this then maybe the tourer would be ok with winter tyres.
