beware the ides of January....and August 8 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Had an e-mail from the fair fuel price peoiple who reckon that the planned increases in fuel duty in January and August will increase the cost of fuel ''by 33p a gallon'' don't know if this is scaremongering or if there is some truth here. I worry for young familes who are struggling already with higher prices on heating and food etc etc. -
Leather or not? 28 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Raised on another thread but I didn't want to hijack it but I have never understood why leather seats are regarded as luxury. Boiling hot in summer freezing cold in winter unless you have the heated option in which case they smell. Easily damaged and hard to repair. Impossible to invisibly repair. Give me a good cloth seat any day. Is it just me? -
Ford Ka heater valve...? 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The good lady reports that on her 03 Ka, the heater emits heat when the control is in the cold position, but not all the time. I think I read somewhere that the heater valve does fail on Ka's, I wonder if someone might be able to put me in the picture on this? -

Hotter heater radiator additive 28 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I saw an advert in a motor mag about a product that claimed to help the internal heater heat 50% faster. The product is called something like Hotter Heater or similar, just add to the radiator coolant and away it goes. Has anyone used this product and if so how effective is it and is it safe for all engines petrol/diesel ? -
A/C: to use or not to use 16 Mar 2006 (Forum)
In the handbook for my elderly neighbour's new Corsa, it says "Switch off all auxiliary electrical loads (e.g. air conditioning, heated rear window) when not needed" in the interests of fuel economy. The best advice for air conditioning seems to be "use it or lose it", which is what I told her. Hence, she's confused. Any views? -
cold engine noise - Citroen Picasso 6 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I have a 51 plate Picasso with 40k on it. When it starts from cold, it has a sort of scrapy-rattly sound, which I've taken to be a bit of heat shield vibrating. But someone has suggested it might be a tensioner bearing. Does that sound plausible? How can I diagnose this? TIA John -
Fuel price increases 23 Sep 2005 (Forum)
After all, it means that oil price increases make a relatively small percentage difference to the price of petrol and diesel at the pumps. The price of my heating oil has gone up a staggering 45% in the last 9 months! -- L\'escargot. -

Vauxhall Omega interior light problem 27 Sep 2003 (Forum)

Petrol production 1 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Does it really warrant 10p a gallon rises all round straight away? I won't even mention domestic heating oil. Graham -

Stalling Lotus Elan 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I have just had £1000 of work done including full serviuce and car was starting and running better than ever. Upto now been putting in horrible Tesco petrol deceided to give it atreat with BP 98O octane. Is there a connection or am I just paranoid. Could it have been the heat? -
Ford Ka+ Active - Crunching / crushing sound from front of car 17 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I have a ford ka+ 2018, owned it for a week and noticed when I’m driving over speed bumps there’s a strange sound from the front left of the car. I have googled the issue and applied Wd40 specialist silicone spray to the control arm bushes and took it out for a test drive and it’s still the same. I’m not very knowledgeable about cars and spraying lubricant on the bushes is something I’ve never done before, I’m concerned if I’ve done the right thing? -
Vauxhall Zafira - Winter tread tyres up front on FWD car 30 Nov 2010 (Forum)
For years I used winter tread tyres on my cars before I had 4WD cars. I now have, in addition to my little Daihatsu Terios 4x4, a diesel Vauxhall Zafira. I have a spare pair of steel wheels and called at a local Kwik Fit to ask the price of a couple of suitable winter tyres. -

Ethics - selling/trading in problem car 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Now it *could* just be a loose pipe or a leak, but the general consensus frommechanics is that it's probably head gasket or heat exchanger - both expensive to repair. I am just on the verge of changing car and, at the moment, I have the option of direct trade-in with dealer I'm getting next car from, selling to an "older car" dealer (it's a W reg) or selling privately. -
New Megane front bulbs - advice for all 30 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Those who have these cars may already have experienced how difficult it is to change these bulbs. Having invested in a Haynes manual, it is much much much easier if you remove the wheel arch liner first. HTH -

For all those aspiring car mechanics out there, this is a selection of translated phrases from the Haynes Manual (for those not in the UK, this is a British car repair manual, available for most cars made prior to 2000, and the odd one made after.
