  • Ford Fiesta - Fuel Gauge Problem 28 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I had the car's front wheels positioned on a pair of ramps to do the oil change, I'm wondering if this may have unsettled the sender unit at all?  Wonder if anybody has any ideas?

  • Ford Focus 1.6 2007 - Stuck spark plug 14 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Hi All Went to change my spark plugs this afternoon and the very first one I went to was stuck fast. I leaned on the plug spanner as hard as I dared, but no dice.  I'm not keen to risk breaking the plug by forcing it even harder, so my next thought is to spray some penetrating oil or WD40 into the hole and leave it overnight.

  • Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2007) - Diesel engine problem 31 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I have a 5 month old X Type Jag 3500 miles (I bought the car new) and i am told by my local dealer that diesel is finding it's way into my engine oil and making it poor quality. They have changed the oil free of charge but have done nothing to solve the problem. I have contacted Jaguar direct and could only speak to a none technical person. Is anyone else having a similar problem?
  • BMW 3-Series E92 Coupe (2006 - ) - 07 335d First service with a 6 cyl diesel 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The service indicator malarkey in the dash suggests that the first service is due in May 2009, when the car will be almost 24 months old. As it uses next to no oil (never been topped up), I was thinking that this is infeasibly long. Anyone have any advice, was thinking of getting my local independent to perform an oil change, without resetting the service indicator.
  • Toyota Service Lights 16 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The lights are the oil level & handbrake light. These are on full. Any ideas on how to reset these? The newer models you can reset by holding the trip counter, but this does not seem to work :( Oil level fine.. Handbrake fine (in fact the light goes slightly dimmer when handbrake off, so the switch is working) Help..... please
  • Garage Honesty 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Now there's 2 words you don't always see go together. I am about to book my car in for an interim oil change & was just wondering - as I have no experience or evidence of this - but - If I book my car in for this work and ask for fully synthetic oil - how do I really know they have used synthetic and not just cheaper mineral and charged me for synthetic.
  • How many miles will my VW do 20 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I've got a VW Passat, 110 Tdi, V reg, just before they switched to the PD engine. So far 144k miles. Oil changes every 5 - 7k miles, with decent synthetic oil, mainly motorway driving (50 miles to work every day). So far it's excellent. Any ideas what I need to look out for, especially engine wise over the next (hopefully) 100k miles.
  • golf mk 4 gti - keeps cutting out 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi everyone My golf keeps cutting out when i slow or stop and is very lumpy when idling and sometimes also cuts out when idling i have replaced within the last month as follows spark plugs and leads, oil and filter, i cleaned the throttle butterfly, air mass meter, collant temp sender, and both lambda sensors (very expensive) this just started yesterday after i changed the leads again because i felt like there was a miss and i brought the last set of leads of ebay (never agan) and sometimes when i turn a corner the oil pressure warning light comes on plus i was getting a clicking from the engine somewhere i read this could be that the oil needed topping up so i did and the clicking went and also the warning light stop coming on but i keeps happening so i top up and stops again (bit worried about this as there is not an oil leak anywhere) please can anybody help me with any of these problems Thanks
  • Toyota Carina E 1.6 auto 1995 - Auto transmission fluid level 10 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Did a fluid change on the auto box but it's so difficult getting the level right. The dipstick has a cold min and max mark and a hot min and max mark. I am checking the oil exactly according to the Haynes manual: making sure the oil is hot by driving for a few miles, then with the engine running going through the gears, then removing and wiping the dipstick, then reinserting and checking that the level is between the min and max on hot.
  • Halfords Oil & Filter 5 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Hi, Just thought I'd share my experiences today. Decided through reading the posts that a 20k service/oil interval on my 2.2 Vectra was too long given the risk to the cam chain failing so decided to go for an interim change today. Hopped to Halfords this am to source fully synthetic c£26 and filter £7 - Total £34.
  • Citroen C5 - Citroen C5 cat & anti-pollution warnings 3 Dec 2010 (Forum)
He's been experiencing issues on and off with anti-pollution warning, catalytic convertor warning, ESP light and a bit of kangaroo hopping and at times stalling.  I think he's had low oil pressure warnings at time stoo.  I changed the cat (actually it's most of the exhaust when you change the cat on one of these), lambda sensors and oil pressure sensor.  The dealer changed his auxilliary fuse box and has checked the car on their diagnostics machine several times but seems unable to work it out.
  • Peugeot 806 MPV (1995 - 2003) - 99 1.9td noisy on tickover, quieter when revved 1 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have owned my 806 since 2002 with 34k and have serviced the car at least every 6 months and at most 1year keeping to beat the 10 k limit. I recently changed the oil and filter carried out a cam belt change and found the water pump was leaking. changed the belt. all done a few weeks ago. as my wife is the driver i only now recently noticed the engine is noisy than normal on tick over, the sound quietens as the car revs increase from tick over, lifting the bonnet the noise seems to come from the back of the engine. could this be the turbo?
  • Seat Leon TDi Servicing 18 May 2007 (Forum)
I understand that the oil for the 2.0 PD TDi is specialist and costs a lot of money, but I don't want to pay over the odds for what I suspect will amount to the most expensive lubricant change I've ever had to pay for. One afterthought: does anybody know when the cambelt / tensioners need changing on this VAG diesel engine?
  • Renault 21 Savanna emission problems 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The bit that I cannot sort out and which is driving me crazy are the CO emissions, they are at around 12% and no matter what I adjust or do, it does not go below this. To date I have; Changed the air filter, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm. In the last 9-10 months, I have changed all the HT leads and performed an oil filter and oil change. The mixture has been weakened as much as is physically possible but the problem persists.
  • Eternal vigilance 17 Aug 2003 (Forum)
As I've sung the praises of a certain High Street tyre fitter for changing oil, I'd better report what happened today. Prompted by HJ in today's Telegraph reminding us to change synth 1000 miles after changing from non-synth, I went into the cheapest source of Mobil 1. With manager's permission, I went along to the fitting bay to have a look, and am glad that I did.
  • Galaxy 'design fault' - official 13 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I refer to my article - 'galaxy - notchy gearbox', July2002 I have now had it confirmed by a Ford main dealer that several people have commented on a 'crunch' on 1st to 2nd gear change when cold on their 6 speed VW gear box. Apparently it is to do with the lack of oil being sloshed around in the box until 'higher' revs have ben achieved for a mile or so thus reaching all parts of the gear box; ie after a couple of miles when the oil has circulated everything is fine.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.4 TDCi Engine Swap 9 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Unfortunately this time it is me who needs help. My wifes Fiesta came home last week (still running) with oil spraying on the windscreen upon further investigation the small pipe from the bottom of the expansion tank had blown off because the tank was also full of oil. After stripping it down I found oil in the radiator, heat exchanger, and all the water pipes and waterways on the engine.
  • 07 Mazda 6 2.0 TS Diesel - Loss of Power: 2007 Mazda 6 2.0 TS Diesel 8 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I can drop it to 4th/5th gear and drive at 50-60mph to get home.  It first happened a week before a service/MOT.  They did a static DPF regeneration and oil/filter change.  Oil levels weren't excessively high (below "F"), and I've always had the low ash oil put in.  This didn't cure it.  "Current" fuel consumption readings as I drive are good suggesting that the DPF isn't trying to regenerate as I'm driving.
