  • vw golf mk3 - vw golf advice 25 Nov 2010 (Forum)
hi, this is my first post on here, seems a pretty helpful forum right i have a 1995 vw golf 1.4, being 17 i cant really insure anythin much bigger, all my friends have like 1.2 corsas and 1.1 saxos, and when we race i always lag behind in terms of speed, most ive had out of my car is a about 95mph, i fitted adjustable coilovers and it sticks to the road like glue, roundabouts are no problem, i can easily take them at about 40/50mph, but then all my mates catch up and pass me, basically i just wanna know if theres anythign i can do that will make it faster, like chipt he ecu or change the gearing maybe? as i said im 17 and cant really afford a gti yet. thanks for looking :)

  • Volvo V70 2001 Petrol Auto Estate - Gearbox Solenoid 14 Sep 2010 (Forum)
This code indicates an electrical fault meaning the fault may be TCM (already swapped out), ECU (already swapped out) Solenoid itself (swapped out with gearbox) or a wiring fault - either a break in the wire or a connection. ....I now need to know where Solenoid A is in order to be able to check contacts and wiring.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.25 - Servicing 18 Aug 2010 (Forum)
One concern with going to an independent is that The Ford dealers claim that they will update the ECU software - is this a reason to stick to the main dealer? I should add that I normally do all my own basic servicing (oil, filter , brake pad changes etc) but normally with cars out of warranty and we usually reckon to keep cars for a fair number of years.
  • Jaguar XJ Super 8 Auto 4.2 2003 72k miles. - Gearbox malfunction ? 3 Jul 2010 (Forum)
After the 3rd attempt at diagnosis the dealer recommended a replacement gearbox and throttle body with a bill north of £4k. A mechanic friend suggests the gearbox may be getting misinformation from the ECU (???) since the problem only occurs when crawling in traffic queues or similar situations. Needless to say my confidence in the dealers solution is undermined by their indecision and desire to chew on my very thin wallet.
  • SpeedSpike Camera`s - you know it makes sense. 21 Apr 2010 (Forum)
You can`t help feeling it`s an opportunity missed though. Surely the technology exists to govern cars speed direct from the ECU - via global positioning and also regulate the gap to the car in front? Somehow, you just know that`s the future and an election winning policy for the first political party to embrace it.
  • Peugeot Partner Combi (2001 - 2004) - 03 2.0HDi starting problems 22 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The dealer has also re-checked the valve timing. After a lot of testing the dealer believes the fault lies with the ECU (a Siemens model). It is giving strange readings (when the engine is not running) and it appears that it is not allowing the sensor on the camshaft to communicate with the sensor on the crankshaft(both sensors having been replaced).
  • Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 99 2.5 Car running like stink 24 Jan 2010 (Forum)
After leaving it over the Xmas period, it runs like stink and its missing on cylinders 1 and 4, all leads and plugs have been changed and the coil pack has also been replaced to no avail, I've now been told by the garage that I use, that its possibly the ECU. Haven't got a clue, any ideas???? I'd be grateful for your advice
  • Audi A8 (1994 - 2003) - 97 4.2 S8 refuses to start 7 Nov 2009 (Forum)
It has an LPG conversion on it so it stopped on LPG last night. I have tried to VAGCom it but I cannot establish communication with the ECU (not good). I thought it may be the fuel relay but that it is not where it is supposed to be according to the manual which is in the fuse compartment in the RH footwell, there are no relays at all in that compartment.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 09 1.9 1.9 diesel - engine cuts out intermittently 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The mechanic suggested that the problem could be a solenoid on the diesel pump that communicates with the ECU. Has anyone else experienced this problem? How did you manage to resolve it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Graham_B

  • Citroen Nemo Multispace (2009 - ) - Cruise control 30 May 2009 (Forum)
Does anyone know why it is not possible? I thought that the beauty or the CAN-BUS system was that various things could be added and the ECU programmed to work the new addition. If I cannot have an OEM unit I will have to go with an aftermarket CC. Does anyone know of a reliable aftermarket unit? The engine is the 1.4 Hdi. Thanks for any help you can offer.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 03 ST D9 Hdi manual Sedan fault diagnostic reader 18 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Pinouts on the DLC don't match most of those handhelds on offer, and I am not about to buy a DIAG 2000. Apart from ABS and ESP pins 11 and 12, about the only OBD2 match is the 12volt rails and the ECU on pin 7. Someone posted some time back that this was a gold mine wating to be opened? Cheers, Terry
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 hdi erractic idle when cold. 17 Apr 2009 (Forum)
    I replaced fuel relay, the brown one near inner wing. Had all codes checked - there are no codes in ecu. The only thing i haven't changed is the pump in tank. Could this be the problem? Oh and checked for air leaks just in case, none there either. please can someone shed a light its doing my head in, thanks {subject header amended, and some punctuation thrown into main post to hopefully make for easier reading}
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 03 2l td oil pressure light on 28 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Had car for 2 years, after 6 months with about 60,000 on it the oil pressure light came on and found out turbo casing had cracked.Had new turbo fitted under warranty.A year later after finding an oil leak a new intercooler and oil cooler were fitted under warranty.4 months on with no warning lights or anything the engine seized.Got a recon engine but when engine was put in and started everything seemed ok but over 1000rpm the low oil pressure light comes on,pressure switch was changed and no leaks but still the same.Garage say it could be the oil pump ? Could the ECU need reset after the engine seizing and its giving a false reading ? would it need a mazda diagnostic machine test ? ANY HELP would be most welcome to get car on the road .
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2ltr intermittent engine cut out 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
When it cuts out all warning lights light up. it went on diagnostic & came up with numerous errors including camshaft timing - too late, engine speed sensor - no signal, ECU - signal error, camshaft posisition sensor (intake) - speed signal error, camshaft timing - too early (both A & B). When reset the car will drive fine for about 1 hr then will do the same again. I've been told it could be the crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensors, does anyone know if this would cure the problem or if it could be something more serious?
  • 12 volts really 14 volts? - Just a query. 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I thought the output was supposed to be heavily regulated unlike the old dynamos. I am right in thinking things like the ECU have further regulation to ensure it has exactly the correct voltage? I know on a PC if the voltage drops or increases only slighlty it can cause all sorts of problems yet on cars it seems to vary widly.
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Retro-fitting Cruise Control/PDC 3 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I had a 1991 BMW 730i for a short period, and the previous owner had fitted Cruise himself, and told me it was as easy as installing the new stalk, and plugging it into the ECU under the steerign wheel. So my question is, how easy would it be to do on my car, and is it worth the hassle? Thanks Nick
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 00 1.8i Fault code p0352 - Ignition coil 2 and 3 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Thank you once again !! Anyway, I have used the paperclip method and have retreived the following code from my ECU :- 0352. Via google, I have found that this is listed as 'Ignition coil 2 and 3' What does this mean ? What do I need to do to resolve ? Cheap options are preferred, we have just had a second child and cash is short !!
  • Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 99 1.6 Engine suddenly dies while travelling along 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My garage have checked every circuit etc. using their diagnostic computer and failed to find a fault. The ECU has been checked and found OX. All manner of suggestions have been proposed but their attitude seem to be ' lets replace this' (ie throttle housing' or crankcase sender), and then see if this will solve the problem.
