  • Head-on collision: video clip 11 Dec 2006 (Forum)
In my case, the other driver was on the wrong side of the road and had no insurance. The police weren't interested; and it was in the days before I had a flash camera phone (which I could have used to photograph the other car on the wrong side of the road after the accident). Has anyone got any thoughts on the feasibility of installing grille-mounted (or dashboard-mounted) video cameras?
  • Fast cars - why bother? 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Most of the time we suffer from a 30mph dawdle along congested routes; and when the roads free up there seem to be cameras all over the place. Even in France the Police seem to be getting stricter on speeding. Maybe this is a good thing but it seems to make fast cars a bit pointless.
  • Britain's Worst Road 15 Feb 2005 (Forum)
In another case in the West Midlands the Council's suggested answer to assist children crossing a major dual carriageway on their way to school was to install speed cameras, not a crossing as the accident stats suggest this is not what is needed - how does a speed camera stop traffic to allow people to cross? When the reporter asked the highways engineer to cross the road they were asked to stop filming!
  • Red Light Offence 19 Dec 2004 (Forum)
i went through a red light." Now i heard from a friend that maybe if they dont have a calibration certificate for the camera they are not allowed to prosecute me. (This would also mean that the camera may have made a mistake) So, i sent a letter to the traffic criminal OCU (London) asking for a copy of this certificate.
  • Kia Sportage 1.6gdi 6sp manual - 15 months on, 22 May 2021 (Forum)
It is comfortable, does the job we want it for and most important of all, zero problems. Reversing camera very useful. SWMBO likes it as does the dog. Just to make you smile.(hopefully) the car is definitely doing better than the owner....
  • A surge in speed fines - Smart m ways 11 Jan 2021 (Forum)
For those like me who travelled on Christmas Day to be with family and a now waiting anxiously for the inevitable brown envelope it comes as little comfort to find the new HADEC 3 cameras are churning out tickets at an alarming rate. Over 40,000 in Surrey alone. Time for a rethink perhaps when life returns to normal ?
  • Home CCTV System - Good or Bad? 13 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Might seem like a strange question but wondered what others might think. We've been thinking of installing a couple of CCTV cameras at the front linked to a recorder. We haven't had any trouble but might be moving in the next year or three and wondered whether a potential buyer might be encouraged or put off? Thoughts?
  • Can you recommend the best digital SLR under £400? 16 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Having got bored with my old Nikon compact digital camera, I am inclined to treat myself to a digital SLR for no more than £400. Does anyone have real practical experience of anything which falls within the price range?   thanks
  • Energy-efficient traffic lights can't melt snow 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
.:-((( http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091215/ap_on_re_us/us_snow_covered_stoplights Another reason to carry a camera ? Another reason not to run a red light in a bleak mid winter? Well me Lud the evidence had melted away.
  • A1 closure/restriction at Team Valley 18 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Announced here yesterday the Highways Agency optimistically admitted they 'didn't know' what the effect would be! You can also guarantee speed limits and the cameras will be there without a doubt!
  • Speeding in Linton - Derbyshire 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/6cuxsh Covert cameras deected 44,000 drivers exceeding the speed limit in a 7 day period. What is the reaction of the local council? Put in speed bumps! I bet the locals will love the noise and pollution they will cause!
  • Why they haven't got it in for motorists . . . 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Just thought on the way in to work, why don't they use the camera vans to issue tickets for defective lights, fog lights on when not required, using mobile phone in car, etc as well as speeding? No additional coat (apart from the labour) and might sort some of these things out!
  • Tesco Parking Enforcement 24 Dec 2006 (Forum)
My local Tesco (Oakham, Rutland) has installed what appear to be ANPR cameras covering the one road into and out of the car park. I suppose that this will automate parking enforcement but will the Penalty Charge income exceed the cost of the system? The parking is certainly popular with people who want to shop at Tesco and walk into the town centre for other shopping.
  • Mini round about offence. 3 Feb 2006 (Forum)
A colleague was stopped by a police car for touching his ROS wheel on a small domed white marked mini roundabout and received a fixed £30 fine. Then today I hear that a guy was procesuted for sticking two fingers up a mobile speed camera van although he was not speeding. Are the police loosing the plot or what. Regards Peter
  • No Motor Vehicles Sign 25 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Saw the 20mph sign but not the other until too late. No police around (that I saw) and was not stopped - only security cameras scattered around the town centre. Would this be endorsable or FPN?
  • G.P.S. Signal Quality 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
With six points on the licence, I thought it high time that I bought a speed camera detector, but am finding that the GPS signal is badly affected by fog & low cloud cover to the extent that the unit(Micro Road Pilot) does not function at all in these adverse weather conditions.
  • I Have A Question - Volume 79 19 Jun 2005 (Forum)
My wife and I are off to China in October, but her digital camera has its own rechargeable battery. I'm sure one of the extremely nice correspondents on this forum can tell me what kind of electrical sockets are to be found in China so we can buy an appropriate adaptor to charge up the battery.
  • Speedo accuracy 17 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Folowing on from threads on speeding and cameras which touched on the inaccuracy of speedos on most cars. I've found that those automatic 'slow down' signs are triggered at exactly the speed limit for that particular stretch of road. When my speedo says 30 the sign doesn't come on but when it reads 31 or 32 it does.
  • First cuckoo of spring 19 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Travelling east as a passenger on A64 round York yesterday saw an unmarked small van in a layby with two cameras on tripods behind it facing traffic flow. After everyone had checked their speed (!), when you were close enough to read the portable roadsign by it, it said "Road tax enforcement". Anyone else come across on of these?
  • ANPR PR 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I think this PR approach will ease the concern of many passing such vans as most motorist, I suspect, think they are speed cameras.
