  • When to change 7 Jan 2001 (Forum)
I have a Nov. 98S Peugeot 106zest 1.1 24,000 miles Cost £7,000 and she has an Aug 96 Honda Civic 5 door 1.6Ls auto & air con 52,000 miles cost £15,500. Against a well spec'd new Golf / Focus we've been offered £7,400 for the pair - apparently they're worth about the same each.Question - does common sense say get rid of them now or would I lose in the long run by running one or both of these cars for another 5(?)
  • Land Rover Range Rover P38 (1994 - 2002) - Bought a lemon! Need help! 18 Sep 2007 (Forum)
When I collected the car, I paid £8000 in cash and took my new pride and joy away for the trip home. I am disabled and have limited walking ability and choose this car as its air suspension made access easy and was able to be converted to hand control at a later date. Whilst driving home the engine misfire returned within a mile of leaving the garage, and the Air Con still did not work.
  • Legal rights after buying faulty used car 28 Dec 2015 (Ask HJ)
Hi HJ & Team. A question regarding our legal rights. We bought, approximately a month ago, a 2006 Ford Fusion 1.4TDCi Zetec with about 70k miles on...
  • Top 10 diesels on the market 11 Feb 2007 (Forum)
A trim £20,935 gets you into 2.2-litre TD4 with alloys, sporty six-speed transmission, halogen headlamps, heated exterior mirrors, air conditioning and six-speaker CD player. Just what the ticket for global exporation? Cons: It?s not a Range Rover Sport. Tiscali verdict: 8/10 ---------------------------- 10. Smart Fortwo Destroyer On sale: now Pros: You want a micromobile for all those irritatingly small parking spaces left by people who don?
  • Volkswagen Golf TDI - Car Windows misting up badly - Golf V (2004) 9 Nov 2019 (Forum)
On a couple of occasions the blowers appear to have stopped working altogether. There is the occasional bad smell also, like the air con system needs cleaning, but only on the odd occasion. The car has dual climate control with the the econ button. When the I have managed to get the windows clear, I can go along fine for some time, then all of a sudden you feel the air change within the car and windows will mist up very quickly.
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 05 1.6 FSI - Sometimes Lacks Power 15 Apr 2010 (Forum)
-I've tried 95ron and 98ron petrol - there's negligible difference between them in terms of fuel economy and performance, even after 3 successive tanks of each. -Fuel economy is worse when it lacks power. -Switching off the air-con makes no difference. It's got its first major service (4 years old, 25000 miles) in 2 weeks, which will mean new spark plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter (I need to check what else is included).
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.0 a/c fan not working 26 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Hi The fan on my TDCi is not working. This means my air con works only when I'm on the move. Stop in traffic and it goes off and warm air. I've been chasing this prob for a few weeks now and it's really starting to bug me. Somebody on the Mondeo forum said replace the fan switch.
  • Infested 13 Oct 2005 (Forum)
What are they, where have they come from and more to the point, how the hell do I get rid of them? A couple of thoughts; *I rarely have a window open - I always have the air con on recirculated because I like the car cold *My mate's house is in the middle of a field and next to a forest where my car's always parked. Any connection? * The car doesn't smell great - kinda like there's been someone sleeping rough in it (they haven't!!)
  • Vectra MIL light (still on) 10 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Initial look by dealer confirmed there was a fault, and tightened turbo hose. No change Advice from Backroom (Andrew Moorey Tune up as I recall) suggested this was mass air flow meter, as this had cured similar symptoms on a customer's Astra. Much faffing by the dealer later, cleaning and divvying around, they suggested a new mass air flow meter was needed. This has now been fitted.
  • Hard Use Electric Car Range 16 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I'd be happy with a range of 250 or so miles but was reflecting on my trip this weekend from Kingston, W London, to Romford, East london. On the way back, at night, cold, wet, I'd have had headlamps on, air con + heating, radio, phone charging,  and stop and start driving for 2.5 hours - covering just 22 miles.I really wonder how long the battery would last stop and go with all the accessories on.
  • Vauxhall Zafira - Zafira b recall work and missing heater fuse 17 Jan 2021 (Forum)
After some recent investigation I have checked the fuse box and realised fuse 4 is now missing ( heating and air con). Could it be that bristol street motors have not done the recall work because I remember they kept saying on the day they had loads of other work to be done on other cars and it took 6 hours for them to do it when it should only take one.
  • Audi A6 - Car Quality 17 Mar 2018 (Forum)
So why can’t these car companies either upgrade the carpet & charge an extra few pound which means better quality looking cars carpet wise for longer or give the customer an option to upgrade on purchase like they do for colour, air con & all the add-ons.
  • Dream car? 4 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I have been thinking about what my next car would be and trying to decide what my 'dream car' would be. Sitting in traffic one day, I thought about my current car... it has a heater, air con, a radio, it's cheap to run, realiable and it'll get to 15mph pretty quickly. What more could I want when I'm stuck in traffic? I may have my dream car and hadn't realised it. There are faster cars out there, but it would be a waste for what I do.
  • Is newer better when buying a used MINI? 16 Apr 2015 (Ask HJ)

  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 1.9dci Heater blower not working on "4" 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The Scenic's heater blower has stopped working when the fan is set to position 4 (maximum). It works fine on 1,2 or 3. This is the manual air-con system, not the full blown climate control. I'm guessing it's the switch, but this being my first canbus wired car, am slightly nervous about testing it, or disconnecting anything in case I blow something up.
  • Can you suggest a BMW with good fuel economy? 21 Oct 2013 (Ask HJ)

  • Ford Focus ST170 - Engine Management failure 15 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Purchased my 03 plate ST170 5 weeks ago from a local independent dealer. Had numerous problems with the car all fixed so far under warranty (NSF suspension,Air Con, And a Engine sensor.) Unfortunately the car failed to start the other morning and a rather bad smell of plastic burning inside the car coming from driver foot-well.   The car was recovered by the garage where the warranty work was done.

Fuel economy is most important, i travel approx 40 miles a day in the rush hour round town. budget about 3k! Doesn't have to have any extras air con and so on, i just need economy and reliability Can anyone offer any suggestions as I just don't know what to go for thanks
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - Compare 7 seater models 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
2.0 TD HDI 110 SE - approx 100000 miles on the clock & an 2004 1.6 HDI 110 S (AC) approx 70000 miles on the clock (does the AC stand for air con?) I have looked at various web pages for these 2 cars and the information seems to vary slightly. As the body style and layouts etc are pretty much the same, can anybody advise what the main difference is between these 2 models, apart from engine size, (eg such items as traction control etc) and whether there are any potentially major problems I should look for?
  • What Credit Crunch? 11 Oct 2008 (Forum)
One particular dealer is claimimg to be 'beating the crunch' up here... but they are advertising special offer cars at the same price as they were before all this happened. The likes of your basic Corsa's without air con etc. So when will dealers give us a real deal???
