  • Motor Show Live Gears Up For Motorsport Days 3 Jun 2004 (News)
Not only that, but to date we’ve had around 200 firm enquiries, which is a great response given that we only sell around 50 cars a year.’ Marlin has been surprised by interest from young people in its Sportster car. ‘It might look old-fashioned but I think they are fed-up with round shapes and want something different,’ says Marlin’s owner Terry Matthews ‘It also helps that you can insure a Sportster for as little as £200,’ she adds.
  • Prestige Cars Plummet, But Still Sell at Auction 13 Oct 2008 (News)
A 9k mile 07 Audi A5 3.0TDI quattro Sport with surface scratches in the lacquer made a very strong £30,000. And a 41k mile 3 year old A6 Avant with the 3.0 V6 and quattro drivetrain, but ‘comfort’ 16” wheels was slightly over book at £16,200. And a 3 year old 41k mile Fiesta 1.6TDCI Zetec S (quite a nippy little car and only £35 tax) sold for a very strong £6,150.
  • Tax Effect Starts to Settle At Auction Today 7 May 2008 (News)
Sure enough a 37k mile 2005/55 107 Urban made a strong £3,600. Not bad for a two and a half year old car originally sold for about £6,000 at a discount. There’s not much value in £35 tax if a car is all but knackered. Yet an 82k mile 04 Fiesta 1.4TDCI still made £3,000.
  • MINI One Mad Money At Auction Today 7 Mar 2008 (News)
If someone wanted one and didn’t want to wait, then there could have been a drink in buying it for them. The rest of the Motability sale told its own story. Strong demand for old model Zafira diesels meant strong money paid. Weak demand for Chevrolet Tacumas meant weak money. Too many Focus out there and a facelift in the showrooms saw an 8 week old Focus II 1.8 Zetec Climate with delivery miles sell for £8,500.
  • Online Bidding Secures a Worldwide Audience for UK Auctions 9 Jun 2010 (News)
Total value of that sale was a colossal £7,000,000. The Bugatti represented a UK record value for a modern production car at auction and the highest value ever achieved by BCA on one vehicle. It also set the used value level of a 4 year old Bugatti Veyron. Many cars at the auction either confirmed or set new guide prices, though some, such as the Audis, may have been by Audi dealers reinforcing the residuals of late Audi models.
  • BTCC Croft Just One Week Away 11 Jun 2011 (News)
Plato, always popular with the Croft crowds thanks to his Newcastle roots, is fifth in the table and sixth Andrew Jordan in his Pirtek Racing Vectra – the 22-year-old has won in many different categories at Croft and 12 months ago achieved his first ever victory in the BTCC there. The Staffordshire racer commented: “I don’t know whether it’s the Northern air or the Northern girls – or both!
  • This Weekend's Discounts and Premiums 22 Jun 2002 (News)
Welcome to the real World. Though the UK new car market isn’t entirely free, free-market supply and demand still applies. Where supply exceeds demand, prices can and should be cheap. But where demand exceeds supply you can easily find yourself paying £5,000 over list to get the car you want right now.
  • Classics Weekend at Castle Combe Circuit 15 Jul 2012 (News)
One of the most eagerly awaited races of the year is that for the CSCC's 'Special Saloons'. Rekindling the memories of the highly modified 'saloon' cars which ran in the 1970's, the series also allows cars from the Thundersaloons championship which was so popular at the Wiltshire track in the late'80's and early '90's. Many thoughts will be with Chipping Sodbury's Vince Woodman, the veteran saloon car ace, who recently suffered a stroke.
  • Mixed Bag of Bargains at Auction today 15 Feb 2010 (News)
Some old ‘snotters’ that miraculously escaped scrappage crawled out of the woodwork today. For the first time in a long time I saw a car knocked down for £50 at auction.   On the other hand, some oddballs made a lot of money, like a 92J Citroen BX TXD automatic that sold for £350.
  • 450 Cars Racing at Castle Combe 16th - 17th June 9 Jun 2012 (News)
Sprinkled throughout the weekend are the double headers for Castle Combe's home championships for saloons, single seaters and sports GT cars. Mostly local drivers fighting for Castle Combe championship honours face considerable pressure. Saltford's Steven Jensen who secured his first win of the year in the circuit's Formula Ford 1600 championship at the last event.
  • Used car price rises mask sector declines, says BCA 16 Jan 2010 (News)
Supply remains limited and demand for budget vehicles remains strong - for plenty of motorists, a six-year-old, 80,000-mile car is an attractive, affordable proposition.  The slow new car retail market means the relative shortage of P/X cars is likely to continue for some time to come. Nearly-New Sector - December November saw over £900 added to average nearly-new values, recovering some of the ground lost in November.
  • Chancer’s Week At Auction 19 Dec 2005 (News)
Many ordinary people have had their incomes cut and no longer have confidence to take money out of their houses to spend on cars. Gordon Brown may be smiling, but car dealers certainly aren’t. I walked into the halls to see a 22k mile 04 reg facelift Mondeo 1.8LX sell for just £5,475. I’ve never seen an 18 month old Sierra or Mondeo quite at low as that.
  • Cheap and Dear at Auction Today 9 Sep 2005 (News)
An old shape 44k mile 2003/53 Corolla Verso T2 D-4D sold for £7,550. A 66k mile 2001/51 BMW 530i Sport auto was way over at £13,500. And a 36k mile 02 reg MINI One with alloys and a/c made more than Cooper money at £8,100, perhaps an effect of being three insurance groups lower.
  • Renault Zoe given zero-star rating in latest Euro NCAP test 8 Dec 2021 (News)
This means that a high number of stars shows not only that the test result was good, but also that safety equipment on the tested model is readily available to all consumers in Europe.  The star rating goes beyond the legal requirements and not all new vehicles need to undergo Euro NCAP tests. A car that just meets the minimum legal demands would not be eligible for any stars. This also means that a car which is rated poorly is not necessarily unsafe, but it is not as safe as its competitors that were rated better, Euro NCAP says.  The five-star safety rating system is updated every two years as new innovations become available on cars.  This means that the year of test is vital for a correct interpretation of the car result.
  • Soft-tops cheap at auction today 10 Oct 2007 (News)
Yet a 17k mile 05 reg Focus 1.6 Ti-VCT 114 Titanium made a massive £7,400. That’s actually £600 below book, but still a huge amount of money for a two year old Focus 1.6. A 62k miles 2000V Mercedes A170 Classic autoclutch started at a realistic £1,500, but climbed relentlessly to £2,425. A 17k mile 03 reg (3 year old) Daewoo Kalos in environmental green made a substantial £2,650.
  • Endurance Racing at Castle Combe 23rd/24th July 14 Jul 2011 (News)
