306 Alarm Problems after flat battery 5 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I have just collected a 306 DTurbo from a friends drive where it has been stood for about 7 months. Obviously the battery was totally flat, after I got it started the lights began to flash. Following about 30 seconds they stop flashing, the car starts no problems but when ever you open the door the lights flash again (no siren), Also, unfortunately I do not have the key that goes in the keyhole under the bonnet.. -
GM ECU Fault Codes-Life-Span? 12 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I thought that all fault codes were lost when the battery is disconnected - in this case it appears that the error message was held in the ECU memory, even without battery power, until a correct signal was received from the sensor. Can anyone clarify this? -
Aston Martin EV motor 15 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Aston deal validates “the most advanced electric motor in the world”, says Lucid Air creator | Top Gear AM putting its faith in the Lucid electric motor to power its cars in the belief that the motor itself rather than the battery is the answer to range. As the techs develop both will play a part but surely a more efficient motor will use less battery but how much is the real question? -

I have had my car for 3 weeks, it was brilliant starting first time, until recently, the battery seems to lose the charge that it has. Take this morning, the battery unlocked the car, jumped into the drivers seat, put the key in the slot, all lit up, turned the key and ooopps the care tried to start with a little turnover, then nothing it was as dead as a dodo. -

Rover 214 stereo help needed 6 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The LCD on the centre of the dash of my Rover 214 1998 has failed to work for some time. Since then, I've had a battery failure meaning a new battery was to be fitted, but of course all the electrics were disconnected for a while. Although I have the radio code, apparently there is a start-up sequence to follow that requires the LCD. -
current leak 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I haven't traced the leak any further as it hasn't caused any problems yet. I've done the maths and with my battery the drain will drain the battery totally in 2.5 weeks but I imagine it will make itself felt earlier than this. is 80mA normal? or might it be a faulty clock? -
Why would my stereo have stopped working 17 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I changed the battery in my car and now the stereo doesnt work. Not much more to say really just quit working, wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem and what would be the most likely cause ? All the connections are firmly and cleanly on the battery, just cant seem to figure it out! -
106 remote central locking probs 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Having a slight problem with my 106 - the remote plip doesn't seem to work any more at all. I'm pretty sure the battery hasn't gone, as the little red light on the key illuminates when the button is pressed, but it doesn't actually do anything, at any range to the car. Could it be that the battery has gone, or is it possible that it's a problem with the receiver unit in the car? -
Chrysler Sebring - Weekly Battery Drain!! Alarm issue?? 4 Aug 2017 (Forum)
AA called, confirmed the alternator was brand new, checked the battery, which the previous owner had only just replaced and paid £180 for the right version, Spiral cell or something like that. all receipts, guarantees etc.. Battery was completely drained, he fired it up no problem and I spoke with the previous owner and he advised me to disconnect the big green fuse which I believe controls all the memory and saves battery power, which I dis and for the rest of the week, no problem at all. -
1994 Fiesta - sudden dead battery 7 Dec 2006 (Forum)
This is all very familiar to when my old fiesta's alternator gave up years ago, but not entirely... I'm pretty sure that it got to the point where it completely tried to run off the battery and couldn't be driven, whereas my wife's appears to be fine until the engine stops and the battery doesn't appear to be holding its charge, even when it has been fully charged... Anyone got any ideas on the problem based on this description please? -
Giving the battery an easier life 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Finally, if the car isn't going to start, give your neighbour or rescue service the chance to help you out, don't keep trying the starter until the battery is completely dead. Despite the inclement weather, the car is still running, and on the original battery. Hawkeye ----------------------------- Stranger in a strange land -
Any - Real Fuel Saving at Low Cost 4 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Given that each bhp is roughly equivalent to 750 watts then the energy stored seems trivial compared with the 100 bhp (75Kw) engine but then when you look into it you will see that it may take as little as 16 bhp (12 Kw) to cruise at 60 mph and thus if the alternator has to provide little or no charge to the battery during the journey then maybe 1.8 Kwh less battery charging energy is demanded from the engine. 1.8/12 = 0.15 = 15% energy saving! Even these numbers do not quite stack up, unless the 'engine to alternator to charging' is very inefficient, however a very real saving is recorded every time the battery is pre-charged!
