I have just had a new sach dmf clutch kit fitted and since it has been done it has had a intermittent juddering at idle speed and when it is juddering there is a strange noise coming from gear box area and the way to stop it is by pressing the clutch or gently push it up to first gear without the clutch in or wait untill its been running a while and the juddering stops. I think it could be a faulty dmf but not sure. The noise dont sound like a typicle rattling dmf. And the car drives fine with plenty pull. Can you help me please.

  • Toyota Townace 1998 - Toyota Townace heating and shivering 15 Oct 2011 (Forum)
However, after I ran for some time the engine started to shiver in a way that the whole vehicle vibrates. Every day for the 1st 20 mins or so the vehicle runs smoothly but after the temperature meter raises a bit it starts to shiver and when I accelerate a bit (on neutral) the shivering stops & when I let it go the shivering sometimes stops but then again it starts all over again when I accelerate to move on the road.

  • Now what? 20 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I'd made up my mind to spend somewhere around 7 or 8K and get a 2 yr old used fiesta or focus diesel (possibly an econetic) as seeing as how I intend to keep the car 8-10 years I assumed the better economy and lower tax would be beneficial in the long run. However I'm now reading that the 1.6 diesel engines may give problems in the long term. So it looks like I may be back to square one. Any thoughts on the above (or suggestions for alternatives) gratefully received.
  • Renault Megane II - Injector Fault 29 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi - Ive got an 03 Megane 1.9DCI and has been running perfectly since I bought it 3 months ago.  Yesterday I went out in it twice and then went to use it again and nothing worked as if it was a flat battery - tried to jump it from our Grand scenic but still no joy - still as if was flat battery but electrices were showing life.
  • Air conditioning, air too dry! 19 Jul 2011 (Forum)
We tried opening the windows a bit which seemed to ease the situation a little.  Having the windows almost fully open with the air con running was about the best we could come with, but seems to make air con almost pointless. Is there any way of reducing the drying effect of the air con or even adding some moisture somehow?
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Poor MPG from Berlingo 2.0 HDI 18 Jul 2011 (Forum)
It had it's last service (done before I got the car) about 6 months ago (4,000mls). It starts and runs great but i have done a tank to tank MPG check and found it is only doing 37 mpg, I was expecting high 40s. I drive with economy in mind changing at around 2500rpm or less if possible. Also the engine does not smoke (on the odd occation it does get  reved) nice and clean.
  • 1999 VW Passat 1.8 turbo - Losing oil 18 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Googled the problem and the result was suggesting a suspect PCV valve stuck open,. Youtube video advised to remove the oil cap when the engine is running. I tested this and the cap moves on top of the engine which I believe this means the crankcase is breathing properly. Any ideas? Thanks Mike.
  • N/a - Ex-wife had me as named driver and car now stolen 5 Jul 2011 (Forum)
She has asked for my driving licence as, unbeknown to me, she had me down as a named driver, married & living at her address, to quote: "to reduce her premiums substantially". I don't want to help her and thus become complicit in fraud and I don't want to run the risk of my suffering for her behaviour.  However, if I tell her to get lost, she'll stop me seeing our kids until I toe her line. Can anyone help with the legal position here with the insurance & what is likely to happen if I tell her to get lost?
  • why must we always have to pay? 1 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Firstly does it cost more in fuel and wasted time to stop traffic to collect it? Secondly, does the money collected cover the actual cost of running the crossing? My feeling is that this government could give us all a real feel good factor if they simply abolished these tolls. It surely wouldn't cost that much and the crossing must be paid for several times over by now.
  • Suggestions: High MPGs, Cheap to Insure, Safe 28 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking to buy a car that will be used 5 days a week, 2 x 60 mile trips a day. Pretty much straight run: motorway and major A roads (very few/infrequent stoppages). The main criteria I have are: - High MPGs - Good safety (4 or 5 star) - Low Insurance Other criteria would include good reliability and not exceeding ~£4k.
  • Vauxhall Cavalier SRi - Where is the 16 point pin / block?? 22 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, I have an N Reg (1995) Cavalier SRi 16 valve.  She is running a bit rough atm and is dying every now and then.  The revs will suddenly drop and if you don't nail the throttle she just cuts out.  The ECU light has come on, it does this sometimes but has normally reset itself next time you turn the engine on.

  • Renault Megane - Cam belt incorrectly fitted 19 May 2011 (Forum)
I was told when I bought it that the cambelt had been replaced recently by an independant garage. I do not have the receipt, but was assured that it had been done. As the engine was running rough, I took it to a local renault specialist, who checked the cam timing. They said that the timing was out, & could not be fixed without replacing the cambelt again. Am I wrong to assume that if I was to get proof that the cambelt was done by this garage not so long ago that they would have to sort it out?
  • Renault Megane II (57) - My windows are broke 15 May 2011 (Forum)
I Know there are a lot of these windows posts on here, but I could not find one, on here or google, that helped me. Me and my girlfriend have just bought a 1.5 Renault Megane Dynamique. It has run into an issue within its first week. From day 2 the front passenger window has played up. It worked at first, then it wouldnt go back up from a partially opened position. Then once it was up we didn't try it for a day.

  • Rover 75 - Car stolen from mechanics yard 29 Mar 2011 (Forum)
It is probably complicated by the fact that there is a long standing friendship between the mechanic that runs the yard and my FIL as he has helped him maintain a procession of old Rovers over the years. In principle should the mechanics insurance cover this? And if so how would you go about any haggling where the insurance co inevitably(and probably rightly for a Rover 75 circa 2002) make a derisory offer?
  • Ford Cmax 05 - Foul odour 26 Mar 2011 (Forum)
My first visit here so I'd appreciate the benefit of the joint wisdom that prevails. Not regularly, but on several occasions over the last year or two, with the car running, the interior has suddenly filled with a foul odour - rotten eggs/fish type - which almost necessitates vacating the car. It lingers for days despite air fresheners and open windows. It doesn't build up it just suddenly emits like a schoolyard stink bomb has been dropped.
