Qashqai or Octavia - Qashqai or Octavia - Durhamlandy

Hi all, been lurking around HJ for awhile now, reading forum, reviews etc.. I am currently looking to change my 08 Auris SR180 for something larger due to an immanent increase in family size. My question for anyone who may have any experience in this area is which is better Qashqai or Octavia? (FIGHT!!!!)

I am currently looking at a 11 reg Octavia vrs tdi estate 11k miles for £18k , and a Qashqai Tekna 4wd 2.0 dci 61 reg delivery mile for £22k, putting the money to one side which is best for getting bairns in and out of and for space for buggies etc?

Bringing the money back into it which will hold its money and be better in the long run?

Thanks

Chris

Chatting to my service manager at the local Nissan main dealer and he said the 2 litre diesel Cashcow is rubbish. Seems they are changing a lot of engines on nearly new cars. Pity cos I think the 1.5 (which he praised) would be underpowered for my requirements.

I'd have the Octavia over the Cashcow. The boot space of an Octavia is something close to 600L and the boot space in a Cashcow isn't even the size of a Mondeo boot; it's about 400L. You get about 200bhp out of the Octavia as well, as opposed to 148bhp from the Cashcow (same sized engine).

Also, it's hard to say which holds its value 'better'; the Octavia is a known quantity whilst the Cashcow has only been around for a few years as yet. Personally, I think the Cashcow is overpriced for what you're getting out of it.

I agree with the others, but then I would, wouldn't I, being on my second Octavia estate.

It's faster than the Cashcow, and the Octavia scores particuilarly highly in customer satisfaction surveys. It's less good if you need to take grandparents as well, and a Cashcow +2 has 7 seats. But as suggested above, the Verso also has 7 seats and is well worth a look.

If you're prepared to go to £22k, you may as well get a new Octavia vRS estate (What Car target price £19.5k). The petrol VRS is cheaper still if your annual mileage isn't too high. Or there's the Elegance estate with a slightly (only slightly) less powerful engine, which will perform about the same as a Cashcow.

Nissan have never had quite the same reputation for reliability since they merged with Renault.

Drive the deal quote £17,100 for a petrol vrs estate and 17,600 for the diesel, no metallic paint or extras but both over £4,000 off list.

If you are 5ft 10 with some age and above then your going to get a bad back getting into the QQ unless you are an accomplished limbo dancer. If you get the 2 ltr then be prepared to blast hell out of it frequently it has the dreaded DPF.

I have the 1.5. no DPF and other than problems getting in I like it.

DVD - how do you mean limbo dancer? I'm a hefty 6ft 4 and I have no issues getting in and out of a Note. Surely the QQ should be even easier?

Ed

I cannot (6ft 2") plonk my R's on the seat and turn slide to get in without having to bend almost double to get my hear under the curve of the roof.

Ahhh I see. Try the Note next time DVD. It's sized pretty well for the 'ample' amongst us.

Octavias are used as taxis.

Cashcows are made by Renault (well the engines are) and are not. used as taxis.

Need I say more

Hi all, thanks for your comments, finally settled on the VRS- went for this one;

Has all of the options on it, got a good deal for PX too. Paid the deposit and waiting its arrival, London to Durham.

Have'nt had a drive of this paticular one (which is always a concern) but should be ok - fingers crossed.

Thanks

Chris.

Very nice! Enjoy it.

You might have got a new one for that price from a broker, but you'd have had to wait several months for it. Good luck with it - well chosen!

He didnt get the Nissan?

Can i come out from behind the sofa now?

Decided against a new one as I didnt want to wait until next Feb / March. The options on that specific car on the skoda config page come to best part of 4500.

paint 440 xenon 750 leather 850 rear sensors 300 columbus 1530 maxidot 130 6cd changer 290 mdi 185 4475

So whilst I agree that there are deals on the internet around 18k for a new one, its still would come to £22 - £23k so I think I got a deal that suits me (afterall its virtually a new car)
