Smart Forfour - Merc/smart failure to resolve. Please Advise. 10 Mar 2014 (Forum)
In response to your letter of the 14.Feb.2014,..... The vehicle was discharged to you in normal running condition except that the actuator had failed. I have provided an independent report from a local garage who loaded the car onto the AA trailer as I stood there, only 30 minutes before it was brought to you. -
Jaguar x type 2.0 ltr D. - Engine cuts out when driving / turning right 16 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Then i was driving the dorset at the end of August for our holiday. We had driven about 50 miles along the motorway when the car lost power but was still running. I came off at the next junction and stop the car in a car park. The glow plug light was on. Not knowing what the problem was i turned the engine of and proceeded to restart the engine. The engine started but when pressing the accelorator it wouldnt go over 2000rpm. -
BMW 5 Series E60 - High rate of battery discharge & starting problems 7 Dec 2012 (Forum)
There was a small puff of smoke from the engine as it started, which I am assuming is unusual. Once running, there were no error messages at all on the i-drive. The RAC chap suggested a local, independent BMW specialist who could help find the fault with the car. Clearly there was a history of starting problems as the battery terminals had marks on them where it has previously been jump started. -
Nissan Qashqai - UK - good news 4 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The Sunderland plant has two production lines, one of which makes the Qashqai on three shifts, running 24 hours a day, five days a week. There are also overtime shifts at the weekend. Extra staff were taken on to meet demand. There are now 5,462 people directly employed at the site. "We can't make enough of the Qashqai," Mr Fitzpatrick said. -
volvo-v60 - failure to furnish (update) 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Today i have received a letter from the police stating that "Upon their enquiries and from the information received, i regret to inform you that your recent nomination of a foreign driver has failed to be substantiated" As a result of an unsatisfactory response under Section 172 Road Traffic Act 1988, i must advise you that it is intended to take proceedings against you for the offence of failing to furnish. A summons may be expected at a later date. I really dont know what to do. Several thoughts run through my head. I am wondering if the driving details provided to me by my guest were not genuine and i am presently unable to contact him. I also didnt request any photographic evidence at the time they initially wrote to me in case it was someone else driving. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - Diesel versus Mazda 6 Petrol 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I am strongly considering getting shot in favour of something more economical. I do mostly short urban runs, and I've decided it's going to have to be a diesel. It also has to be an automatic, and most crucially of all, must not cost any more to buy than I can get for my 6, which is in the region of £4.5-5K. -
What's the worst modification you've ever seen? 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Perhaps "Dave" felt that the car was best enjoyed in its 'natural', 'raw' state. Perhaps "Dave" was an idiot? Sure enough, after a few practise runs, the day came when he invited me for a ride in the passenger seat... "Raw power" probably doesn't quite do justice to what had just been created. Yes - it had plenty of "go" - but there seemed to be so much play in the transmission that there was a detectable amount of time between hearing the revs rise and the power reaching the tarmac. -
Qashqai - The first 2000 miles 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The switchable 4wd is controlled from a rotary dial next to the gear selector. It has the option of running permanently 2wd or auto 4wd which allows some power to the rear wheels when the car decides it needs it. there is a third option of locking it in 4wd for very slippery conditions but even that will revert to auto 4wd when a certain road speed is reached. -
Hyundai i20 (2009) - bought new car using scrappage - initial views 20 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Seems well-built, quite substantial and safe, drives nicely, good clutch action and gearchange, soaks up bumps well, good firm seats Minuses : 1. A bit gutless (but not pushed as running in and my car's a V6) and bland 2. Too wide to fit in the garage (well, I could but the wife would knock the mirrors). A bit silly when you can't even get a supermini in the garage! 3. Not too impressed with the selling dealer - car in poor condition when we went to look at it last Monday (all covered in tree sap), plus didn't like the salesman answering his phone all the time when he was supposed to be dealing with us. -
Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - Car from trader- timing belt broken. 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
He has offered to carry out the repair if I buy all the parts and pay for some labour. He has confirmed that the car needs a new cylinder head and timing belt to get it to run. I have got some prices form a local breaker for the part and as no breaker will just sell a cylinder head I have to get an whole engine cheapest I have been quoted is £250 + belt kit £150 + labour charge, the car cost me £850, unsure if its worth the hassle. -
Private sale, this one's messy 17 Jun 2009 (Forum)
ok rather a long story here that i would like some unbiased opinions on. my sisters boyfriend agreed to buy a modified rx7 off a mate for 5k, he was due to go to afghanistan so a deal was struck whereby he paid 2.5k deposit the v5 was signed and would pay the the remaining when he returned 7 weeks later. he went of on tour but it was cut short and returned after 3 weeks, this left him short on money as he was going to fund the payment from his extra tour pay, he spoke to the owner who said not a problem pay it when you have it. he collected it everything seemed ok, i saw him about an hour later and he said the coolant alarm was going off and something wasn't right. i had a quick look at it for him and a water pipe hasn't been jubilee clipped on and has blown due to pressure. we refilled the coolant system but the buzzer still stayed on, strange but we put it down to the coolant sensor sticking (ive seen this before) he took it out for a short run and it behave fine, stopped to check everything over and there was water coming from the turbo and the car refused to start. recovered it home and after a good look over i was starting to have a real bad feeling of a major issue (mostly set of by the bodges of easy jobs on the car such as chocolate blocked wiring and poor ran pipes.) anyway after some work we concluded the water seals had gone (it's a rotary engine). -
Vauxhall Signum (2003 - ) - Signum rambles - The epilogue 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Seats were half leather bucket jobs which while they were reasonably comfortable I could never get out of it at the end of a long run without being a bit stiff. Conversely the full leather ones in the Mondeo keep me comfortable on all occasions no matter how long I have to sit in them. The Vauxhall was much quieter both in terms of engine and wind noise and had a lovely swell of torque which made it surprisingly diesel like to drive in the best sense. -
Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2007) - Jag X type estate, good idea?? 17 Mar 2009 (Forum)
V70 size just too large for the country lanes where I would like a more nimble car. BMW? Well, my chum has had endless trouble with run flat tyres etc and a completely useless dealer which has caused me to hold back there. My heart says a Merc C220 cdi would be very nice, but RWD and probably auto and a lurking rust history. Saab, I dont think so either, elderly products and an uncertain future. -
Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - MMT Diesel T-Spirit Road Test 20 Feb 2009 (Forum)
There is a strange issue with road noise though or rather water on the road noise. When you go through even a small puddle, a noise not dissimilar to running a tap on an empty ice cream tub resonates through the floor and its really very loud - I assume its water hitting the wheelarch linings but I have NEVER come across a car that makes such a racket - my mum said it was louder in the back and to such an extent that she asked me if there was something wrong with the car. -
Mercedes Benz - 04 2.1 04 reg Vito- electrical faults. 16 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I need this to be remedied pretty quickly and would love to have any advice. Cost is an important factor here, my resources will run out if this gets much over a grand. I know I'm sounding like a real amature here but I'm honestly not that bad. I haven't got the operating handbook to identify the lights and I've been putting off buying a vehicle new enough to have to rely on an engine management system because I don't know where to start with fault finding. -
Buying a pre-reg online - advice please.....! 15 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Apologies for the length of the post, I would welcome any advice I could get in this situation. On one hand I'm partially convinced this is the way these things are run but on the other hand I don't want any hassle to come my way..... Also if anyone has had any dealings with Nationwidevehicles I'd appreciate any feedback. -
Ford - faulty diesel injectors, hesitation on accelerating 18 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I am afraid that I appear to be another gullible Ford owner who appears to have fallen foul to Ford?s long running list of excuses to explain away the problemsd they encounter with their diesel injectors. Tales of ?water in your diesel? & ?a batch of cheap fuel? all sound too familiar having now researched this site. -
AllBrandsNew - buying experience report 4 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I've driven about 200 miles over the weekend and we're delighted with the car. For the price paid its a bargain. Obviously I'm running it in and so driving gently, but the engine does have a lovely 'thrumming' sound to it. I've noted comments in other threads about the handling and understeer and the possibility of modifying the suspension to improve the handling. -
Uninsured Loss Recovery After Car Accide 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
In fact, at their valuation, my niece will not even receive enough money to pay off the loan which she took out to buy the car just over a year ago. Her loan still has three years to run, and she has informed me that the loan will have to be repaid early now that the car has been declared a total loss. This will mean she will still have to pay all four years of loan interest, even though she has only had the benefit of just over one year of it, because that is the contract which she originally agreed to. -
306HDi-Knocking after new fuel pump 13 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I plan to take the car back to the garage and get them to listen to it and get it analysed on the machine hopefully. Any ideas what is causing the poor running as only the pump and filter have been touched. Oh I think this is a coincidence but think the battery was low before breakdown as the morning and evening before it was slow to turn over and the speedo/rev counter went round to 110/5000rpm on starting and all the segment of the mileage display lit up - I assume because of low voltage.
