  • Skoda Yeti - My third Yeti 22 Sep 2015 (Forum)
WBAC had offered ~£11K and the local Honda dealer £10.5K (against a 13 Plate Elegance 4x4). I ran winter tyres / 16” steel rims November to March and had no issues, despite running in deep snow. The car lacked full ESP, which seemed a glaring omission at the time. It was supplied new with Dunlop SP01, which were down to 2mm at 38K miles on the front and 4mm on the back (I ran winter tyres Nov-March, so maybe 25-30K miles in total).
  • Mazda 3 Takara 2008 - Mot advisories on car I want to buy 1 May 2025 (Forum)
Ive currently got an old skoda 2003 fabia which I wonder if I shouldn't just fix it (emissions issues and engine light on) and stick with the devil I know.  Its a nice cheap little run around. Which is all I need.  Though my garage thinks I should ditch it.   Finding a small, cheap atuomatic is proving to be difficult however.
  • BMW X3 - Faulty car, dealer ignoring me 1 May 2024 (Forum)
The car was sold to me with an RAC warranty and so I booked it in with an RAC recognised mechanic. I actually also realised that the MOT had run out (I think I may have been misled on the dates actually for that, but that's another story). I took it for an MOT with the same garage that I had found with RAC warranty. It passed with minor fault "Nearside Rear Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot severely deteriorated.
  • Renault kadjar - Turbo failure on low mileage car Consumer rights? 16 Sep 2023 (Forum)
In the car industry I would suggest that 95 times out of a 100 the ‘goodwill gesture’ is a legal b***** entitlement but in order to cover up a major con or failure the dealer/funder/manufacturer will make good any damage – as a gesture of goodwill! Typically the car part that fails two days after the warranty has run out that is repaired free – as a ‘gesture of good faith.’ Sod off, there is such a thing as the Sale Of Goods Act which takes precedent over a warranty and if a defective part, expected to last for the life of the car, fails, it is a legal obligation, on the part of the dealer who sold you the car, to replace it or repair it.
  • Which Compact Family Estate? 23 Jun 2023 (Forum)
And I believe V70 2.5t and 3.2 will be reliable; however, I wonder if fuel efficiency significantly affects the day-to-day running cost as most of the mileage will be on Motorways. I assume the 2.5t and 3.0 Volvo engine doesn't perform poorly on Motorways? Any input? I would appreciate it if the group members could help me to decide the best option from the above, or what other options I should consider that are not on the above list.
  • Volkswagen Golf - MK6 Golf - Purchasing Query 30 Oct 2021 (Forum)
As such, I am looking at the 1.4 Petrol TSI, 1.6 Diesel TDI, 2.0 Diesel TDI, and the reliability/cost of running or ownership versus the quality of the car/drive to my needs and circumstances. In general, I think the 2.0 TDI and the 1.4 Petrol seem the best two choices, but thought I would also include the 1.6 TDI.
  • 2008 Ford Focus Mk2.5 Titanium 1.8 Duratec Petrol - 08 Ford Focus 1.8 Weird Revs/Idle No Codes But S 4 Sep 2020 (Forum)
BS-S1 was massively fluctuating from like 0.005 to 0.700V but BS-S2 remained constant at 0.665V I then got it to do the test and under the Bank1-Sensor test, there was one called $80 that showed these results: Test ID: $80 Test Value: 0.7448V Minimum Limit: 0.5000V Maximum Limit: 0.0000V Status: Fail Some of the other readings at idle once it'd been running 10 mins or so: Absolute Throttle Position: 13.7% to 14.1% Intake Manifold Abolsure Pressure: 7.5% to 7.8% Short Term Fuel Trim: minus 3.9 to 0.8 Long Term Fuel Trim: 7.8% Ignition Timing Advance For #1 Cylinder: 3.5 to 9.5 Is this an indication of a vacuum leak somewhere?
  • Mazda diesel 11 Nov 2019 (Forum)
If you prefer Mazdas, then I'd look at the gen-3 Mazda3 in 2.0 petrol form, if its big enough for your needs, as its quicker (but not quick as per my earlier comments), handles better (the others are still excellent) and more frugal than the CX-5 and 6 and cheaper to buy/insure/run. The Honda is likely only lower because its more expensive to buy, but is big inside, especially the boot and has a very reliable engine line up, with the 1.8 petrol being reasonable nippy and frugal, though the Skoda Octavia with its 1.4TSI engine is very good if you avoid the dreaded DSG auto - lots of advocates on the Backroom for this car and engine combo.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.25 Temperamental Fuel Pump 20 Jun 2019 (Forum)
I am now very concerned that it is going to leave me in the lurch again and am wondering whether anyone has experinece of this sort of problem and/or suggestions about what it might be? The odd thing about it is that the car has never stopped while actually running ... it just won't work from starting ... is it possible that it is to do with the keys/coding etc after all? Is there a direct link from the ignition to the fuel pump ... because all the other electrics are working fine.
  • Seat Ibiza - Webuyanycar.com 12 Apr 2019 (Forum)
For background, when my wife bought her new car 18 months ago we kept her old car for our sons to use. They don’t often visit, but when they do it’s useful to be able to offer them a car to run around in. They all live abroad, so when they visit it’s never just for a day and our Ibiza saves them having to hire a car. However, with our last son having just relocated abroad (was it something about our parenting?!)

However ! Here is now my issues. The car is lacking power and slowly climbs through the revs and under load has a serious lack of power.
  • Jaguar XF - Used car, radio malfunction. What are my "rights"? 14 Dec 2016 (Forum)
When I dropped it off I asked him if he could organise for the local Jaguar place to look at the radio issue as well, which he said he would.   He called me an hour or so ago and said he'd taken it to Jaguar who had run diagnostics on the engine fault and apparently it's now sorted. However, the radio issue is not an easy one to remedy. I can't remember the exact part he said it needed, but it's some sort of main part which costs over £500 before labour.
  • Subaru Impreza 2.0 - performance flatspot 21 Sep 2016 (Forum)
i have tried to reset the ecu, but it will work better just for about 2 days and then go back again to working horribly. i have been to 5 mechanics . they said the changing of the rims will not cause that, just coincidence. i have changed new fuel filter with regulator. also the fuel pump. we put a gauge to check the psi of the pump and it held up fine- no problems.serviced the air filter. i changed the knock sensor. i replaced the air flow sensor. i serviced the injectors and throttle body four times at different mechanics. i changed the timing belt and tension-er and pulleys - . i changed the engine and transmission oils. i changed the spark plugs. sometimes on the highway the 4th gear will take long to go in and when i try to kick down, it will not and the same gear will run. the 1st and second gear will sometimes go in with a hard buck. when i apply brakes to stop, while slowing down i can feel the hard buck from the engine or there abouts as the car comes to a stop.i scanned the car at 6 mechanics!
  • subaru impreza 2006 2.0 R - subaru impreza 2006 2.0R engine PROBLEMS !! 19 Sep 2016 (Forum)
hi, i have a 2006 impreza 2.0 r engine . i bought the car from the previous owner in may 2015. for 1 month the car worked well. as soon as you touch the gas pedal it will shoot off, acceleration great and top speed about 190 km. as soon as i changed the rim and tyres it died. it had 16's and i put 17's, but the manual said i can make that change. it started to flat spot bad and go dead. it will crawl up small hills gas pedal to board. on flat roads as well, flat spot, dead, no acceleration. then suddenly it will take off again with a spurt but will soon die down again. on the highway 3rd and 4th gears no problems. it will fly. but it never worked again as it did the first month.i have tried to reset the ecu, but it will work better just for about 2 days and then go back again to working horribly. i have been to 5 mechanics . they said the changing of the rims will not cause that, just coincidence. i have changed new fuel filter with regulator. also the fuel pump. we put a gauge to check the psi of the pump and it held up fine- no problems.serviced the air filter. i changed the knock sensor. i replaced the air flow sensor. i serviced the injectors and throttle body four times at different mechanics. i changed the timing belt and tension-er and pulleys - . i changed the engine and transmission oils. i changed the spark plugs. sometimes on the highway the 4th gear will take long to go in and when i try to kick down, it will not and the same gear will run. the 1st and second gear will sometimes go in with a hard buck.when i apply brakes to stop, while slowing down i can feel the hard buck from the engine or there abouts as the car comes to a stop.i scanned the car at 6 mechanics!
  • CAT C AND D SALVAGE EXPLAINED 22 Mar 2016 (Forum)
The same vehicle with the same damage will now be a cat C , make the same vehicle 6 years old and the insurance company will only sell it for parts, cat B. A ten year old, run of the mill car with a scraped bumper and broken headlight will be a cat C. Another common misconception surrounding damaged cars," Insurance companies don't write a car off with hardly any damage?"
  • Another 'help me choose' thread 27 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I would prefer a manual, so understand I need to check the wonky offset pedal box of the BMW to make sure my size 11s fit. On the other hand, as most of my mileage is done alone, the thought of run-flat tyres on the BMW appeals versus being stranded on a dark, wet roadside with a can of slime.   I'm not interested in badges per se, but a quality interior and overall driving experience does appeal.
  • Ford Focus Saloon 1.6 TDCI - Stumbling whilst accelerating or Cruising - Help 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
It has a brand new (12 months or so) DPF and I run it regualrly about once a month in 4th gear to burn of the carbon, because most of its werkly 2xdaily journeys are about 7 miles each. I know, I know. LOL  (Wifes work car). Should have got a Petrol one etc for short journeys.
  • Chrysler Grand Voyager - 2000 3.3LX Auto - GS - Recurring Limp Home Mode 27 Nov 2014 (Forum)
It is equipped with the 3.3 L Petrol engine and the 41TE Autotransaxle with a total mileage of 140,000 on the Odometer. The vehicle is serviced regularly and ordinarily runs faultlessly. Eight weeks ago the vehicle suddenly failed to engage 3rd gear whilst gently accelerating before dropping into limp mode. Immediately before this occurred the engine very briefly cut out twice (almost a misfire as re-engaged instantaneously), this had occurred randomly on several previous occasions during the preceding 3 months but had NO adverse effect on the transmission shift so not sure if this is even relevant.
  • SEAT Alhambra - Rejecting a vehicle SOGA refund 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
After several attempts to phone him I finally done to him and he told me that his duagnostic tool had told him it was a faulty boost control Solenoid. I had already had a vagcom run on it and it came up as boost control fault and code,  (but to my knowledge no machine can narrow this down to one fault please correct me if I'm wrong but it requires exploration to find out what is causing the boost control fault not just changing the solenoid).
  • Peugeot 106 1997 1.1 - MOT - CO 2nd fast idle, & idle speed too high 21 May 2014 (Forum)
It reads up to 0.8v, but I haven' wired it up in real life to get actual values when the car is running. Should I be overly concerned about the "003) Exhaust engine idle speed too high [7.3.D.2]" as Haynes says this is controlled by the ECU. Could the exhaust leak be a cause of this?
