  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 Heater controls & switches not working 8 Dec 2009 (Forum)
For some reason all of the switches below the heater fan controls (air recirculation, air con and heated rear window) have all suddenly stopped working as has the actual heating (i.e. turning the heater temperature control has no effect), fuses are all OK. The fan control still works fine, flaps open/close OK, heater matrix seems OK.
  • Renault Scenic (1996 - 1998) - 1998 1.9DTi - Heater poor performance 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
    The heater matrix is not leaking, the coolant level is constant but even on a long run in this freezing weather the heat output is only luke warm, moving the heater control from hot to cold does make the output colder but on max heat it is pathetic. Any ideas waht the problem could be?? {updated post using drop down menus that weren't available at the time}
  • Omega Radio 5 Nov 2003 (Forum)
By the time I've driven for about 15 minutes it suddenly comes back to life. The upshot is it's the heated rear window (which I've been using most mornings) which causes this problem...this switches itself off after 10/15 mins and hence the radio springs back to life. I assume the aerial is part of the heating element (the stubby one only used for Sat Nav?)
  • Audi A3 Sportback,1.6 petrol, 2010 - Front shock absorbers, what type 28 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Hello, I'm about to change my front shock absorbers. I changed rear couple weeks ago. I called a couple of car part shops and everyone comes with gas filled shocks... I never fitted front ones and I'm not aware about front shock types (for my car) I thought it's has to be oil filled shocks as rear ones i fitted..

  • Audi A4 - Audi A4 1.8T BFB single cylinder misfire 18 Jan 2025 (Forum)
i have an audi a4 2004 1.8t that i recently bought, the car has a misfire on cylinder 2  so i replaced the coilpack and the problem went away but only when the car is static, asin not moving and engine running it has no misfire but when you put the car under load after 2000rpm cylinder 2 has a dead misfire, no stuttering or hesitation just goes completly dead, i have ruled out that its not the piston rings as it dosnt smoke i would need to do a compresion test to confirm but im pretty confident it isnt that i know its not a stuck valve as its not constant its only under hard acceleration, i have replaced the coil packs and spark plugs also i checked the coil wires that sit above the exhaust as they are known for splitting due to the heat of the exhaust, cylinder 2 had 2 wires that had the outer case breaking away but not damaged the wire to what i could see so i eletrical taped them to see if the problem persists, which it did. is it the wires that are causing me the misfire, is there damage that i cant see thats caused by the heat and the wires actually need repairing

  • 500 - Fiat 500 wiring loom failure 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
The more it is used the earlier the wiring will fracture and break, for instance, daily use for shopping or letting a dog in and out. The main dealer solution to this car was a £600 fit of a new wiring loom. However, with a little patience there is a simple repair that costs about a £1. First, pull some loom through the gaitor from the C pillar., then remove the internal tailgate pressed board cover to reveal the wiring connections, disconnect the two rear heated window connections, the rearwiper motor connection and undo the rear lock which allow you to pull some loom through from the tailgate.

  • Overseas (Canada) Roadside Assistance Cover 19 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Just returned from driving in Alberta, Canada. Hired a car from a reputable Car Hire firm in Calgary, after getting as advised an International Driving Permit and DVLA codes of which when told the assistant I had them. Looked blank as to why I had them. I am planning another trip shortly to Calgary.

  • MOT stickers issued by MOT stations 7 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Its seems to be that MOT testing stations now place a sticker on your windscreen with the date that the next MOT test is due. Is it a legal requirement to leave this sticker in place, or can you just peel it off? Its not a particularly attractive addition to any vehicle! It seems a great idea, so the authorities can see at a glance that a car has a current MOT, but what happens next year when all cars have this sticker in place?
  • Rain water in Mondeo boot 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
All, I bought a Mondeo (1.8 TD Diesel, 1999 model) this summer, and in the last few weeks (since it started raining) have discovered that there is a lot of water in the boot of the car. This has travelled onto the back seat of the car - which is now constantly wet as a result. In fact, in the sunken housing where the spare tyre sits, I found literally 4 inches of water when I then extracted using as mug.
  • Reversing Cameras 8 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Reversing is a problem, and the specialist professional disability advisers can only recommend additional mirrors (they say this is the hardest disability to help people with). These fall off the windscreen anyway (the sticky pads cannot take the extra weight). But in these days of small covert cameras and Nissan Primeras with reversing TV images (she doesn\'t want as big a car as the Primera), does anyone know if such items can be sourced and retrofitted on cars?
  • Clearalex - is it still available 3 Feb 2009 (Forum)
My new-to-me Accord is suffering from a smeary windscreen. In time past I have used sachets of Clearalex crystals in the washer water and been very impressed. Is this product still available - none of my local motoring shops sell it and they tell me that they can't get it anymore.
  • rover 220 wipers 13 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Ihave a rover 220 diesel, the windscreen wipers will only work on normal or fast speeds, on intermittant they stop half way up the screen and seem to please their self when they want to stop or start. When you switch off they will park anywhere but where they should.
