• Ford Focus - Exhausted 28 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Nothing seems out of place so I rev the engine slightly and you can hear a rattle when you rev it. Dad gets home and confirms my suspicions about the cat so the car is now parked on the drive, undriveable until we sort a cat out tomorrow. A shame as I'd done a full valet on it the other day! Has anyone heard of the cats going so early on Focuses...Foci? Is it really that early or is 66k normal?
• Mondeo TD gears difficult 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
However when I got to where I work, which always gives me a good twenty minutes of heavy slow moving traffic where you're lucky to get into third, getting into first gear from neutral seemed to get more and more difficult, to the point where I was really having to force the stick. And switching up from there wasn't as easy as it should be either. When I got to the car park and needed to reverse, it was as equally difficult. When I got back to the car at the end of the day, it was back to normal, until I'd been sat in traffic for a while, but then the cruise home once I was out of the jam was fine.
• Cutting out when idling - Merc C240 12 May 2004 (Forum)
Typically, I\'ll be stopped, foot on brake (selector in \'drive\') and the engine just cut out, all dash lights on, and no engine. If I select Park, switch off and restart, the engine starts again instantly. It cut out this morning, but on this occasion the engine was nearly up to temperature and it took about three or four seconds to start. whatever, on every occasion, the car\'s worked fine afterwards - until it happens again.
• Bought a new car 1 Dec 2019 (Forum)
So, ended up getting the Ibiza FR 115PS (6 speed). I’m sure the 95PS (5 speed) would have been fine though. The only thing missing was the rear parking sensors or camera. The dealer fitted a camera for me which works through the infotainment screen. The camera looks as if it’s factory fitted.
• Mercedes B class 180d AMG - Quick review. 17 Feb 2018 (Forum)
However when looking at the equipment, for a £27,000 vehicle it is poor. For that money you do not get the following which were standard on my old model SE. Front fogs Parking sensors (camera instead) Self park Auto dipping rear view mirror Folding mirrors I was also surprised it didn’t have: DAB radio Xenon headlights Heating to the standard fit leather/alcantara seats I mentioned the safety fitments.
• Penalty ‘Fixed’ 27 Mar 2010 (Ask HJ)
I forward this email to you in total frustration at the way that the traffic police and their partners manage their dealings with the tax paying public....
• Vehicle Excise Duty - Motorist entrapment 14 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Fast forward a few years, and everything moved online. Tax discs disappeared, together with parking permits and sundry other visual obstructions to the driver, with arguably a safety dividend. In common with other government agencies, the DVLA exhorted us all to go digital, paying our VED by direct debit, monthly or annually.
• Vauxhall Corsa C - Corsa C won’t start first attempt, but will second 28 Nov 2014 (Forum)
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/538/Uesw8H.jpg OIL: Changed oil, oil looked fine, but the filter is a mess, fit for the skip (pictured). Bought the car 4 months ago from a dodgy backstreet dealership (mistake) and the dealer tells me he’d had a full service. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/661/7dGSJa.jpg EXHAUST WATER: While changing the oil and plugs I noticed quite a bit of water in the exhaust, seems to be okay now but it was parked on a slope at the time (front end up) to keep it out of the rain.
• From The telegraph - Police admit using mobile speed cameras are 'like 26 Feb 2014 (Forum)
He said he also wants speeding motorists to be offered safer driving courses as an alternative to fines and points on their licenses, arguing the emphasis should be on “education as well as enforcement”. But he said the police have diminishing influence in local camera safety partnerships, which oversee speed camera use but also include council and health representatives.
• Jaguar XF 2.2D - Is it safe?? 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Parked the car for the night and following day. Went to the car on Monday and it drove fine for 3 hours then went again. But i made it home back to the North East. Rang Jaguar breakdown again and the sent a technician out, not AA.
• 2 perplexing problems 1996 Range Rover 20 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I looked in the under-bonnet fuse box and everything was fine, dry and clean. I swapped around the starter relay for a couple of others. I checked that the gearbox was in Park and also tried it in Neutral. Neither do I think it is the immobiliser (which has identical symptoms) because when the passive immobilization kicks in the message centre tells you that the Engine is Disabled.
• Where do I stand if I have been unknowingly driving without a licence and insurance? 29 Dec 2016 (Ask HJ)
A few months back I was driving my son's car. We parked and when we came back someone was just about to put a note on to say someone else had hit it. Minor...
• Ford Maverick - Advice needed re a refund 28 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I'm new on here, and need some advice. My Mini Cooper is about to enter the great car park in the sky, and I've been looking for a cheap second-hand car. Nine days ago I saw a Ford Maverick, took it for a test-drive, it seemed fine, except for a big crack across the windscreen. I was a bit surprised that it was supposed to have a 12 month MOT on it, as couldn't see how it could have passed with that; but was assured by the salesman that it was about to be put in for an MOT, and would be available once that was sorted by the end of the week.
• Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe CDI250 62Reg - Pulling Left 19 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Admittedly I have never owned or driven a Mercedes before (except for commercials - and they were fine!) but surely an established ‘prestigious’ brand would not accept this as normal? I have had a google around and can’t even find that much chatter about it – surely if it was that common a problem, more people would be discussing it?
• Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.8 Acceleration reduced warning then car won't 13 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The car seemed fine during the week when it was cold outside, even freezing, it was only when the car had sat in the damp and rain over Wednesday/ Thursday night that it had a problem. It seems to happen when I am turning hard right, although that could just be a coincidence, and the engine is cold and it has been damp over night.
• Cheap Car - Suspicious 29 May 2009 (Forum)
Hi, Today I noticed a car advertised for sale parked in my village. I'll spare you the details, suffice to say its 55' Plate, 80k miles and the owner budged £200 off the sale price to £4k when its really worth £6000ish. Just to make it clear, no money has been exchanged and I have agreed to pick it up from her house tomorrow.
• Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.8 petrol (?) Stalling engine & ign. light. 17 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I know that the radiator has been changed, oil, brakes and discs and lots of other bits too. The car after i have driven about 20miles then park and then get back in just after i have started driving again ( i basically drive from work to parents house, pick up son then drive home again) i normally pull into the same road (my parents road) and reverse out.
• What to buy 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
(I normally only do 60 as I'm never in a hurry and like to save the fuel costs) I need to be able to put my bike in the back. (I cycle the last bit to avoid Bristol parking) It fits in the 306 with the rear seats down and the front wheel still in place. I could remove the front wheel if necessary, as I'll have to do if I go for a Fabia (vRS high on my list) Reliability is important, though with so much motorway driving I never wear anything out.
• Pug 406 V6 Wierd Oil Pressure Problem 9 May 2005 (Forum)
I subsequently tried unscrewing the oil filter and turning the engine over - oil did eventually start pouring out and on retightening the filter I got oil pressure back. I then ran the car about fine, parked it up, tried it again 4 hours later - no oil pressure! This problem only ever occurs when the car has been left for a while - I have never lost oil pressure when driving. There is no oil leakage from anywhere.
• Carjacking Notes 4 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Don't hesitate to run back to where you came from to get help. LOOK AROUND one last time just before exiting your car. When you pull into a parking area look around for anyone "hanging" around, or someone who seems to "pace" their walk to arrive at your parking place as you are exiting your car. If you see someone like this move to another parking area or leave the area.
