Citroen Xsara diesel estate 18 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Problem is that you can't see how much is in the reservoir and so it is difficult to make up solution of additive if you don't know how much you need. Definitely a design fault on this car. -
4X4s in accidents 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Basically the results indicated that you are better off being hit by the Range Rover. The large frontal area spread the force of the impact causing less severe injuries. The saloon car scooped the dummy up throwing it onto the windscreen and then onto the road. This seems to fly in the face of the current anti 4X4 lobby. -- \"Nothing less than 8 cylinders will do\" -
Peugeot 306 won't blow for me 9 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hey not sure if anyone has any pointers - after a recent collision my 306 fans only blow straight at you in the car and not the windscreen - which funnily enough is a bit of a pain in the nether regions seeing as winter insists on filling my insides with steamy windows, anyone got any suggestions. My dads a mechanic and can't seem to sort le problem despite being a whirlwind (pardon the blowing punn) of knowledge. -
When is a gadget not a gadget? 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Two examples could be rain sensing windscreen wipers and card type electronic 'keys'. What gadgets either currently available or in the pipeline do you think have or will become absolute necessities? -
VW Passat Electrics 8 Nov 2000 (Forum)
The mechanics are very good but the electrics are terrible. To date I have renewed both L& R/Hand window winder motors, two yes two windscreen wiper motors and the light switch. I have complained to the very uncaring VW Care Centre but to no avail. Have I just got a rogue car or are VW electrics an expensive problem? -
N/A - Electic only cars 9 Jul 2018 (Forum)
What happens if you are stuck in a blizzard for hours in your limited range EV. Presumably you will very quickly run out of battery for drive and heat. At least with conventional fuel that would not be the case unless you were stupid enough not to set out with a reasonable tank. -
Volvo V40 - heater 29 Jan 2013 (Forum)
New car suddenly started blowing hot then cold randomly in different parts of car (dual zone heating). This is a software problem according to garage (who are excellent by the way: abergavenny k. price garage). little niggles/teething problems on new model is not the end of the world i suppose - just a pain. -
Paintwork chips seem worse on my Golf 19 Feb 2013 (Ask HJ)
I have had a mk 6 Golf for almost three years, and driven 17,000 miles, a relatively small proportion of this on motorways. There are numerous stone chips... -

Fines for parking badly 24 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Parked in coucil run pay and display. The notice board next where payment was made clearly stated a fine would be imposed if cars were not parked wholly in a marked space. I think the fine was £100. Not a problem for us as I always make sure of parking correctly. Returning to the car I noticed a car parked badly, with an enforcement officer taking a photo and sticking a fine on the windscreen. -
Winter weather brings out the idiots 1 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Saw this on the news yesterday, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-47040584 Then this morning while driving through the town of Ellon i saw a car waiting to come out on to the main road with, i would say about 80% of the windscreen (and about 100% of the remaining glass) opaque due to frost and ice. Beggars belief that folk wont spend a few extra minutes warming up the car and clearing the glass, at least enough to see where you are going!. -
Skoda Fabia - Water dripping from engine 20 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I drove about 40 miles yesterday then when I parked in a car park I noticed water dripping from under the car. It was clean water, not windscreen fluid, or dirty water or oil, it was clear and had no oder. It appeared to be coming from the back of the engine compartment, I couldn't see the exact source. -
Worst car you've ever owned.. and why 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I'll start it off..........1979 Rover 2600 SD1auto went well for the 2.6 (couldn't afford the insurance on a V8)..... but My God did it fall apart. Once looked in the spare wheel well and it was FULL of water. Windscreen nearly fell out, cos the rubber had perished so much; leaked like a sieve; door mirror fell off (all of it).etc,etc......... truly awful build quality. Why did i buy it? Young and naive. -
Renault Sport Spider 9 May 2003 (Forum)
Idly chatting in the pub last night, somebody mentioned the Renault Spider, the one with no windscreen. Nobody could remember the last time they'd seen one or a mention of them in the usual car magazines. I checked on Autotrader this morning and there are a total of 6 for sale nationwide, one of them only 8 miles from here. -
Adding VAT to advertised used car price 5 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hello In my naviety I'd always presumed when buying a used car, that one would pay the price marked on the windscreen, with the exception of possibly road tax etc. However, I've come across a supposedly reputable main dealer who added VAT to the price of the advertised price. -
Why is my Volkswagen Bora overheating if the coolant is full? 29 Dec 2016 (Ask HJ)
I own a Volkswagen Bora 1.9 TDI 115PS and when I drive for about 3-4 miles the car overheats and sometimes there is no coolant at all. I asked a few friends... -
Vandals, lighter fuel, glass & paintwork 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Can lighter fluid have a corrosive effect on paintwork even without combusting? Another concern I have is that the fluid was thrown onto the roof of the car at the rear and set alight as it ran down over the rear windscreen (then down over the bootlid and into the wheelarch). As I said, it was extinguished within less than a minute, but I'm concerned about the effect on the glass of the rear windscreen - I know that toughened glass, if affected by fire, will shatter into hundreds of little crystals rather than big shards. -
Nissan Primera P12 - How to remove small 'dings' on car bodywork 13 Sep 2011 (Forum)
How do you remove a small 'ding' in a car door. Its not that deep and around 5cm squared. I was told that by using a hairdryer to create heat on the door will pop the dent out. Is this true or could anyone advise me of any other solutions? -
'Green' G-Whizz electric cars recalled 2 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The G-Wiz electric car was being recalled today after one burst into flames. Keith Johnston, GoinGreen managing director, said the fire was sparked by a faulty heat-sensitive cut-out switch. "Even though it was a single incident, it was decided as a precautionary measure to launch a recall." -
Am I doing damage? 5 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Having only owned Petrol cars in the past and now having a diesel I am still in the habit of jumping straight in to the car in the morning and turning the key, without remembering to wait for the glow plugs to heat up and the light on the dash to go out.
