  • Any cars still home repairable? 23 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Wipers off, bulkhead underbonnet extras off to get to the various mounting points, separate the 2 systems, aircon and heating and eventually remove the cowling that held the matrix. To get to the radiator, the whole front of the car had to come off, bumper, front panel, headlights etc, as the rad is clamped between the fans and the aircon radiator.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.8 petrol Exhaust Heat Shield & Hand Brake 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I need to remove the exhaust heat shield which is held in place by "special nuts or... bolts" according to the Haynes manual I have. How do I undo these special nuts/bolts? They look like rivets to me. Also I recently took my Focus for its M.O.T here in the UK.

  • 405 td non starter 4 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Having problems starting my 405 td, the glow plug heater light on the dash fails to come on, the glowplugs are not heating up and so the car fails to start, anyone have any ideas? is there a fuse or relay for this system? Many thanks. Duggie
  • 306 TD problems 8 Oct 2003 (Forum)
If I wait after the glow plug light has gone out for a few more seconds it starts almost straight away. Is there someting that needs adjusting? I am not very clued up on diesels!!! 2. The front windscreen wipers don't work properly, the single wipe when you push the stalk down won't do one sweep it only operates while you hold the stalk down, and it wont repark itself, also when you operate the squirters it does three swipes and then stops at various positions, again no auto parking, I presume these faults are caused by the same thing.
  • Ford Mondeo 1999 with air con - Air distribution switch is to screen only 24 Sep 2014 (Forum)
The air distribution switch will only send the air to the windscreen vents regardless of its position. I know it is a vacuum operated system on this car and I have looked up previous posts on this subject. However, I still do not fully understand either how it works or how to diagnose the problem.
  • Flies are back 21 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I recall an article in a paper a few years back saying that the environment was poorer because there were fewer flies around. Proof was the reduced number of flies on a car after a long summer journey. Well I can tell you that after our trip to London on Sunday - flies are well and truly back!  Had to get the power wash out today when I realised that I couldn't remove the smears on the windscreen by wash/wipe alone.

I drove a way before council warden placed ticket on car what is the current rules? is the ticket valid if sent in post as not attached to windscreen or handed to me and warden was not obstructed in anyway. As a little unclear re your article on ghost tickets since new legislation in 2008.
  • Naff modifications - then and now 23 Apr 2009 (Forum)
As the title suggests, modifications you used to see on cars in days gone by ( the 70s were a particularly tasteful period!) and nowadays. Windscreen sunstrips (usually with air bubbles in) with driver and passenger names on (Darren and Tracey were quite popular).
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2003 2.0 A/C lowest working temperature? 23 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi, What is the lowest temperature that the A/C system will work to clear the windscreen on my 53 reg car? I suppose that it differs slightly but there must be a temperature at which there's no point having it on. I like to run it up every couple of weeks to keep it working OK. If the temperature's too low will the compressor even engage?
