Why does my air conditioning smell?

My newer car’s air conditioning is stinking whenever I turn it on. The smell is terrible. Do you know what's up with it and how I can make it smell better?

Bacteria growing on condensation in the trunking. Try turning the heater to maximum heat and driving around with the windows open for 15 minutes. That might kill the bugs, and the smell. If not, try an air-conditioning sanitiser 'bomb' that you can buy from Halfords.
