  • Motoring documents 11 Mar 2004 (Forum)
When I had my DVLA/VED "experience" I was extremely relieved that I had kept piles of paperwork which I'm sure helped me avoid a larger fine. Anyone add anything else to this? Feel free to pick holes...
  • Insurance companies Fighting your corner 12 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi all Last month my car was written off. As i waited behind a parked car (two thirds of the front of my car was behind it)for the oncoming car to pass i saw to my horror that the car swerved from its original course(opposite side of the road) straight into my car at about 25-30mph without breaking.I got out of my car to check that the woman who was driving and her kids in the back were all OK.Thankfully they were.
  • Weekend observations 7 Jul 2003 (Forum)
SPECS cameras in place, played my usual game of sticking at the posted limit until some tailgater gets impatient and then let them roar off into the sunset, with fine in tow. Just after roadworks on Thelwall Viaduct (another SPECS hotspot) a totally different approach to mobile speed traps. A very obvious white police van park on bridge, with "Mobile Speed Safety Van" in mile high letters on the side of it, along with speed camera symbols.

  • Right to Silence court case Monday, and publicity 23 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I seem to recall a few years ago that the parliament did , via the courts introduce (at least for motoring offences) a scale of fines related to income, but I thought, and Michael is sure, that there were such howls of rage that it was abandoned some time ago. Does anyone know whether higher fines for higher incomes (as opposed to refuced fines for those unable to pay) are still part of the normal system?
  • Golf mk7 2013 1.2l petrol - Remote key fob issues - Golf MK7 9 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Hi all,  Weird sequence of events today.. got in my car like normal, remote key worked fine.. drove to gym and parked up for 90mins.  Come back to my car, the fob doesn't work. So i pop the outside of the handle off, use the key in the door, alarm goes off (not sure this should happen), get in, turn the ignition on and it says replace battery in key, and I drive home.
  • N/A - Insurance liability and breaking the law 26 May 2019 (Forum)
But maybe these are two unrelated events in the eyes of the law - sure, the van driver had broken the law (and could be fined), but the actual accident is my wife's fault - and she should be aware of this possibility. Any comments? One other thing is that I've been told that dashcam footage would have been very useful indeed and would change the scenario - why?!

  • Mini one D - Alternator problem? Mini one 05 plate. 29 Jul 2015 (Forum)
After this the car wouldn't hold more than 5-6 volts and I couldn't drive home. It shocks me how the car was fine until I parked up and tried to restart it, no warning signs no distinctive noises. I am a student and a solitary cannot afford major repairs of my car. Does anybody know why or what the solution is to this?
  • Ford Focus Ghia 2002 - 1.8 tdci - Flashing Glow PluG Light 17 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Then Wednesday the problems started.  I had been to the petrol station (Morrisons) to fill up with diesel and parked the car outside my house on the road for around 4 or 5 hours.  I then went to pull the car onto the drive and the glow plug light started flashing.  I turned off engine and restarted and problem went away.

Good infotainment (Bluetooth Phone and Music streaming), SatNav (7 digit postcode) 6. Cruise Control, parking sensors 7. Saloon car or Hatchback but not Estate car I dont mind the car brand much so I am fine with new entry cars like Hyundai etc. My budget is around 15K (Cash payment, no loan/finance) and I am thinking of buying an used car (2-3 years old with mileage upto 25K).
  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus Mk1 Speedo not working when it's Hot 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Just had the idea to maybe get oe of those windscreen reflectors for the inside of the car for when I am parked and see if that helps, if so it is most definitely going to be an issue with the dash.

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 2.0 hdi - starting problems P0230 & P1138 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My peugeot 306hdi is having starting problems and we are really struggling with what to try next to avoid taking to expensive dealers (not financially possible). The car was running fine and was parked up one day when i went to work, on returning it would only fire up and then cut out again. I took it to a friend with the diagnostics kit and the P0230 and P1138 were showing. From speaking to various peugeot workers and readin through forums it seems P1138 is a common code after a shutdown and P0230 usually relates to the LP fuel pump.

There is a small rad in behind the front of the lower bumper, in front of the main rad. Any thoughts would be very welcome! The coolant level is still fine.
