  • Scratched rear window - any solutions? 13 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The rear windscreen on my car has loads of scratches on the outside. It is as if the previous owner has cleaned it with the rough side of a Brillo pad, every week (I really have no idea how it can be so scratched).
  • VED Disc 9 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have searched the Net for rules and regs and can't find a clear answer. Please can anyone explain where the VED disc is meant to be displayed, on a car, and where I can find a reference to the law? I thought bottom left hand corner of near-side windscreen on a RHD drive can but I can't prove it!
  • Any - Bubble Bubble, Boiling Brake Fluid Trouble. 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
If boiling is started somewhere (assume in a rear wheel) soon it will happen everywhere in whole breaking system."  Can't see that. It'll boil locally, where the heat is. As the steam expands up the brake pipes, it'll cool and re-condense. If you kept driving and feeding more heat into the system eventually you'd heat it all up and I suppose the steam would travel the long, long, narrow, heat dissipating metal pipe to the master cylinder, but meanwhile, you've had a brake failure, and either:- (a) scared the s*** of yourself and stopped.
  • 2007 Ford Focus2 1.6 petrol - Slow heater warm up 17 Dec 2014 (Forum)
The interior heater on this car always used to warm up very quickly. For some time now, although the engine temperature gauge shows that the engine heats up very quickly, the heater can take about 15 minutes to get hot enough. There is then plenty of heat.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible (2000 - 2004) - 03 1.8 heating problems 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
After driving about 10 miles my temperature guage goes into the red, if i put the heater on full the temp comes back down to 80 or 90 deg, the heater works fine, the electric fan cuts in at around 90 deg but the radiator remains cold as does the bottom hose, the top hose is hot. I have drained and refilled the coolant but the problem still persists. The car runs fine, no startin problems and no steam or hissing, i am a little worried that the radiator is stone cold though and as i said the bottom hose is also cold, any advice would be helpful.

  • 200k Mondeo 19 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Firstly, would a Mondeo be a suitable replacement for my Focus, I realise the fuel costs would be higher, but things like heated mirrors and a heated screen would be nice at 6.30 on a Winter's morning. Also, any opinions on a Mondeo with this mileage - will it be due for expensive repairs or imminent failures? I assume that a car with this mileage will have few original parts left!

  • Ford Focus 1800cc Zetec - Overheating engine 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
The exhaust is just about warm on tick over until the engine is reved then it is also hot as the revs push out the gases. The car heater is extremely hot after a few minutes and is of a very dry overheated quality? The thermostat must be opening and the temp sensor is sending a signal to switch the fans on and off. As you walk past the front of the car you can feel the heat radiated and smell that the hoses are very hot.

  • vw golf mk4 gt tdi (110) - over heating issue. 4 Jan 2016 (Forum)
hey guys. i have got a problem with my golf mk4 gt tdi 110. 1) car heats up and temperature goes to 120 degree. but if i drive slow, it come down to 90 degree. 2) heaters blowing cold air even if temperature is on 120 degree. 3) i flushed all the coolant and filled it in again, (( i heard, after you filled the coolant, close the radiator cap and let the temperature goes to 90 degree and then let it cool down. after that, open the radiator cap, the water level must go down so you filled more coolant in. right?
  • '96 Polo warming up too quickly 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi, My wife recently complained about her car warming up too quicky. I had a look (no I'm not a maechanic but have been driving afew years with some usual experiences) and all seemed OK - it wasn't over heating etc. To be honest I was too busy to have it checked out, anyway couple of days later the temp went too high and 'smoke' started coming out.
