Audi A5 - Noise coming from air condition unit.... 20 Dec 2019 (Forum)
I was also advised that it was common practice to leave air con on permanently in the vehicle..?? I questioned this as air con runs on fuel and was told that for the amount of fuel used it would still be in my best interest to leave air con on permanently. I was not convinced about leaving air con on permanently but noise was gone everything worked again as it should and off i went... -
Cmax - Hard start, low idle 19 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Around £700 later for numerous issues and we went to pick the car up. The mechanic said ...all sorted but it still has that little hiccup when its running so I might need it back... I thought nothing of this and went over to the car. My mrs loves that car and straight away she knew there was something wrong. It took two attempts to start and idled quite low but I gave reassurance and she gave it some revs and 5 minutes later we were home. -
Peugeot 306 1.9td - Peugeot 306 STOP light and radiator fan problem 20 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I have checked the brown sensor on the thermostat housing. If I pull it out when the car is running, the passenger rad fan kicks in after a few seconds. I bridged the terminals on the connectors lead, but it did not change anything. I have cleaned the connector multiplug on the left hand side of the radiator. -
Toyota Voxy - Toyota Misfire And White Smoke On Cold Starting 30 Aug 2019 (Forum)
My issue is that I have just rebuilt a 2004 Toyota Voxy engine (Engine Code: 1AZ-FSE) 2.0L Petrol Automatic and am having the following problems with the car when I start it: 1/ Car rev too high (2000RPM) on start up 2/ Car starts blowing lots of white/grey smoke on cold start and clears away after running for 2-3 minutes and also when I put My hand in the smoke it feels a little bit greasy. 3/ Car also has got some misfire that can be felt when listening to the exhaust pipe blowing intermittently. -
Audi a6 2014 3.0l diesel 204 PS with 60k - Failed dpf regen forcing diesel into oil? 2 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Maybe fair point but the sales guy said just rev it up the road and the PDF will be fine. I do short runs in the week and every weekend will drive it for at least 1 hours there and back. Have just driven 600 to wales and back and had the dpf warning light on not long after this. So the service manager told me if I didn’t add oil, the only other option was that the DPF is failing to regen. -
Toyota Landcruiser 120 series - Toyota component dies & charging twin batteries. 29 Apr 2019 (Forum)
All fixed now i've got ignition light when it supposed to and all charging fine, i've run Toyota 4x4's for years and that's the first major failure i can recall apart form the odd bulb. Twin batteries on these vehicles, wired in parallel so still 12v starting, and yes i did charge them both fully so they have an equal starting charge...common sense tells me it would not do either battery any good if you only charged one, but if i had only charged one battery would it lead to one or other of the two failing before it's natural time or would they equalise without any issues? -
Corsa C 1.2 SXI+ - Instant gasket + Bars Leak blocking cooling system 9 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Now both heater pipes are hot and firm under pressure but there's definitely a restricted flow because when I drive the car the coolant temperature gauge goes down to below 80, yet on tickover/stand still revving it's normal. Is there anything I can run through the cooling system that will melt instant gasket or at least make it softer and plyable please? Cheers. Dave -
FORD RANGER SUPERCAB 4X2 DIESEL, 2000 - FORD RANGER MK1 2000 MYSTERY PROBLEM 31 Jan 2019 (Forum)
But now the problem has returned and this time, the glow plug light is staying off and I cannot start at all. Yesterday it was running fine, I parked it in very hot weather for a few hours, but by the time I came back to it, it was dark and cool, I turned on the key - no glow plug light, and it turns over but won't start. It does not start with 'easy start' either. -
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - Engine warning light 26 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I have had the car for c1 year (2015 plate), it has covered 42k miles, is fully serviced and does short 20 min motorway runs and to local town every day averaging 50 mpg. The Citroen garage has replaced the fuel filter twice, the first time after the car completely dumped all the diesel over the road and wouldn’t restart on after stopping. -
I need your help about car selection 7 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I came to the UK two months ago and now I need a cheap and problem-free car. I'm still unemployed and looking for a job, so I really need a car which is run without any problem for 6-7 months. Of course longer is better. My budget is up to 900 pounds, yes, just 900. So, it's very hard to find a reliable low mileage car. I always checked Facebook MarketPlace and Gumtree almost 6 hours a day! -
Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 2004 182k miles - Annual Trip Report 2 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Some readers have expressed an interest in the progress of my old 'not really a Jag' and this is an update for them. Others will scroll on by, no doubt. I thought it might also br relevant to the 'running an old car' and 'when is it time to change?' debates. I am aware that I am right on the edge of the 'next big bill and it goes for scrap' decision, but my very good indie helps in this area. The figures are taken from the car's computer, rather than brrim-to-brim, but they seem about right. -
Kia Venga 1.6 2012 - Best way to drive a torque converter auto 2 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Sorry if these are numpty questions but I'd like to know I'm treating my car correctly as I like to keep them long term and so don't want to be having an expiring auto box in a short timescale. And yes, it is woefully thirsty (25mpg around town, 33mpg on a run) but in every other respect it suits us so we can live with the mpg issue (and you never know, with the new calculatons being due from September, it might not actually be that bad after all. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0TDCi Vibration with strong acceleration 8 Jan 2018 (Forum)
-in July '08, a split boost hose was replaced -an injector was recoded at 65000 miles; record for this says "CARRY OUT DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS, TRACED DTC P23 36 NUMBER ONE INJECTOR REACHED ADAPTIVE LIMIT RE-ENTER CORRECTION VALUES" -No 4 Cylinder was "reconfigured" at 55000 miles (thats what the document says) Could this be a split intercooler hose? There's no black smoke noted. I'm sourcing a Haynes manual at present to help check. I've also run through the 'gauge test' diagnostic (key in, hold down trip button, etc). This shows no DTC code. (I dont know how detailed this is.) TIA- tt -
Nissan Juke Suzuki Vitara - New Car Time. Juke or Vitara 23 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Am I correct that with a PCP I can opt to either buy or return the car after the set period. So deferring the decision to keep the car long term until we have run it for 3 or 4 years? Any other gotchas to worry about on these two cars. I know some other cars get better reviews in some areas but my wife liikes the looks of these two. -
VW Golf 1.4 TSI - Small claims court, private car sale 17 Oct 2017 (Forum)
The following week I paid them the rest of what I owed, £3650 and collected the car. On the way home it didn`t feel right, it was running rough when I was stopped at traffic lights etc, and very hesitant to accelerate. I took it to a tuning garage 2 days later to see if they could pinpoint a cause and I was quite prepared to sort it, thinking it wouldn`t be too serious. -
Kia Rio Strike 2010 - Water in Driver's Footwell 26 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I've checked around doors and windows,(I've powdered them and drenched the car and there were no internal water runs etc), the door seals seem fine, and there is no sun roof. Initially it was looked at last summer and the garage claimed that it was the scuttle panel, which was cleared and I managed to get the car seemingly dried out during decent weather, but when the rain started again - as soon as I put my feet down on the floor mats they started soaking up the water that must have flooded in again. -
4 cars - Which car shall I go for? 25 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I'm a first-time buyer who is looking for an automatic car suitable for running around in locally. The car will be driven frequently, but it wont be driven over long distances. I've come across the following 4 cars which are presumably reliable and appropiate for my requirements, but would like more opinions before I make my FINAL decision. -
VW Golf MK6 2.0 TDI GT Clutch Slip 28 Jun 2017 (Forum)
With it being an ex demo, I imagine it didn't have the best start. On the test drive, the young lad from VW encouraged me to 'give it a good run'. Suppose that should have been that got me thinking. I've seen the cost of new clutches on these and really don't want to be paying it. Especially when I know it's nothing to do with us. Many thanks in advance CW -
Ford Fiesta Ecoboost - New Car, Innaccurate HPI check, damaged car 12 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I took out another vehicle check on another website and this time the check came back saying the car was a Cat D. I have just phoned the vehicle check branch of Autotrader (run by Experian). They have told me that the car was only registered as a Cat D in April (after I had purchased the car), and the date of the actual accident was in October 2016!! They told me they are going to chase the insurance company to check whether the Cat D label is right and if it is, they are going to send me a claim form (as they offer up to £30,000 compensation). -
Mazda 6 2007 Diesel - DPF regen failure/air mass sensor link? 4 Nov 2016 (Forum)
A diagnostic check indicated a possible faulty air mass sensor. This was replaced and the car has run normally for about one thousand miles so-far. Could a faulty sensor have been preventing a DPF regen because I don't know now if the filter is being cleared and don't want to wait for a warning light to tell me it hasn't?
