Prolonging exhaust life 6 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I have had my earlier unturbocharged diesel Transit for 6 years from new and the exhaust has lasted well, with only the front pipe requiring to be changed (last year). There is little rust and the aluminium coating is mostly in place. Looking under more modern turbocharged Transits the exhaust pipes are much rustier than mine and I wonder why this should be, is it due to greater heat, or poorer materials? -
Potential fire hazard - Peugeot 406 24 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Has anyone encountered a real or potential fire hazard with the cigar lighter on the Peugeot 406? The lighter is situated on the central console between the front seats on a horizontal surface. When the lighter is removed, there is a real risk of a metallic object; pen, jacket zip fastener, cigarette silver foil, key, etc. falling into the socket and completing a circuit with over 30amps power. -
Brake pad dust 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I blasted them with my power hose and this seems to have made a bit of an impact for now. My sister has the same problem with her C3, she has already had it in for the front drivers side to be stripped down and now the passenger side is doing the same, to the extent that I think the caliper is jamming as the wheel is heating up and car pulling to left. Again dealer is saying this is chargeable. -

I also find that the car heats up as I go faster and then the temperature drops when I start going slower. Does anyone have any idea why this might be and how I fix it? I'm in danger of getting frostbite on my way to work!!! -

VW Bora Heater 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
If so what sort of cost would we be looking at? We have had the car from new and it has always been like this. Once up to heat there is no problem with heat output. Many thanks, Servelan, I read most days but post infrequently. -
Tail gaters read this ... 13 Jan 2003 (Forum)
This afternoon, tootling along the a busy M4 east bound in lane 1 near Maidenhead at 70mph when the car in front lost its load. Two 6 foot wooden doors slid off the roof, impacted the road, and shattered into separate component planks each of which then bounced along the road. I managed an emergency stop onto the hard shoulder behind the car that had lost its load. -
General Question - eggy windscreen washer fluid 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi Guys, I have a problem with a bad egg smell from the windscreen washer. This is a result of leaving plain water in there for too long. Slap. I'm wondering what is the best way to eradicate the smell. If I just keep filling it with a good washer solution will it go eventually? -
Roadside window cleaners - they're back 6 Jun 2007 (Forum)
For a long time there had been none of the menace windscreen cleaners at junctions, but over the last week they've sprung up again at Hanger Lane Gyratory, Vauxhall bridge and on the south circular at Streatham, to name a few I thought this practice had been banned they are such a nuisance and always hold up traffic when the lights change, because it's in their benefit to do so. how do others feel about them and stop them from doing their windscreen - if a polite refuseal doesn't dissuade them I put the windscreen wipers on -. -

Any - Smeary Windscreens - Lets Make Em History 6 Oct 2017 (Forum)
We have 2 cars, a newish Ford Focus and a 3 year old A4. Both cars are well cared for but even though only the Audi does a lot of motorway miles, both have perenially smeary windscreens. I have tried everything I know to cure this as follows :- Thorughly cleaning screen with pressure washer detergent or special extra strong glass cleaner, then rubbing the widscreen dry with screwed up newspaper or kitchen roll. -
2005 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 (9N) - Help with Water Leak 30 Jul 2013 (Forum)
It only affects the passenger footwell too. Surely it has to be the drain holes below the windscreen? The windscreen was the only part of the car where I poured water. Only thing is, I can't get to the drainholes to poke them with a wire or something to clear any crud, there just isn't any room (that's with the scuttle cover off too). -
Sat Nav and accidents 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
A high proportion of Sat Nav's I see in cars are mounted on the windscreen and I've often thought these can't be good for road safety - especially for blocking the driver's view of pedestrians and cyclists. The Road Traffic Act?s Construction and Use regulations say: "the satellite navigation unit must not be located anywhere within the sweep of the windscreen wipers or anywhere else that would cause obstruction to the clear vision of the driver" Looks like the authorities agree there's a safety problem. -

Prius - the cold facts 8 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Been thinking seriously about a Prius for next car. But with the winter in mind, and reading how it can be driven off without needing the petrol engine, I take it that the heating system doesn't require it either? In which case, is this the early starter's holy grail of instant heat from the word go?
