LPG : which system is best? 11 Jan 2014 (Forum)
However an awful lot of them seem to be complaining about very poor consumption on LPG, for example mpg on petrol is 20-22, therefore with LPG you would reasonably expect 15-17 mpg, but owners are only getting 10-12 mpg on LPG which makes the conversion almost redundant. I?m not sure whether this is due to installation problems or otherwise. -
LPG ? 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Still looking for a newer car , and came across a Volvo S60 bi-fuel (LPG) . Its a 2002 model and to be honest it is very nice . But my big worry is (please excuse me) because its a 2.4 5 cylinder no turbo , will it still cost as much to run , as say a diesel Vectra ? The car will be doing a lot of town work . -
Diesel and LPG 23 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I've seen an advert for a Diesel LPG conversion which claims huge benefits in performance AND economy. Has anyone had any experience of this type of conversion, and can it really do what it says on the tin? If the claims of 60% improvement in horsepower are believed, how long would an engine last before self destructing? -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.6 - Engine lubrication when running on LPG 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Manufacturers tell us that their petrol has lubricants and other additives included in it for the protection of the engine, the valves, valve seats etc. When running on LPG, what lubricates/protects the engine, the valves and valve seats? I ask this because I have been told LPG has no lubricants etc., included. Is that correct? I manually switch the fuel types on a regular basis between petrol & LPG as advised. -
LPG - why the price differences 9 Mar 2012 (Forum)
But whilst there I spoke to another 'gas guy' and he said that he had passed Sainsbury's at Beckton where LPG was 69.9 that very day. He was kicking himself for not stopping. This got me pondering why is the price is so variable? Even two Total garages I pass every day always but always have different LPG prices. -
Subaru Forester (1997 - 2002) - LPG on a turbo? 21 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I'm shortly looking at a 2001 Forester Turbo auto with a genuine 35k which has a professionally fitted Prins multi-point lpg system fitted. Now I'm not interested in the pros and cons of lpg in general, I've made my own mind up on that, but I've not had or known anyone with a turbo engine that's been converted. Are there any potential problems over a n/a car? -
Mondeo Zetec & LPG 30 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Help wanted please: In the Backroom archives there is a post from Keith mentioning that the 1.8 Zetec without hydraulic tappets is not suitable for LPG conversion and a Ford technical bulletin is available to confirm this. How can I get a copy of this bulletin and how can I tell if I have hydraulic tappets on my '98 1.8 Zetec? -
5th Gear - LPG 11 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Following on from tonight's 5th Gear: How many miles per year, and for how many years, would you need to do (and keep the car) to make LPG conversion worthwhile? Car 1.8 litre petrol, just under 2 years old and 18,000 on clock. Does 33mpg on Petrol. FfCP -
LPG & Diesel 19 May 2001 (Forum)
I have been asked on a couple of occasions for info on converting customers' cars to LPG. Also whether Diesel engines can e converted. I recently saw an advert in Car Mechanics magazine for such kits to convert Diesel engines. Considering offering it as a service. Any opinions/ horror stories??? -
To LPG or not to LPG... 2 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Although pretty efficient, the car uses a lot of £'s worth of petrol now and so my question is should I: a) Keep the Cavalier and get it converted to LPG, bearing in mind the car has 70k miles on the clock and is 93MY - Is this a good idea and is the car likely to stand up to another 100k without large issues? I am aware that mpg is not quite as good on LPG, so how big is the difference? -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Dual Fuel LPG problems 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I recently purchased a Vauxhall Astravan Dual fuel. I did buy the vehicle with a problem, and that was that it will not tickover on LPG. LPG Conversions 7 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Dear All, Has anyone had any "bad experiences" after having an LPG conversion. I'm thinking of having my car "done" (Ford Escort). I've heard of the valve seat recession problem with Zetec engines, but, what about poorer running, over-heating etc. etc. Any views, opinions graetly appreciated, John -
LPG vs Diesel 18 May 2007 (Forum)
As I drive a diesel car, last night I was chatting with my brother in law who's got a Daewoo Lanos 1.6 with LPG fitted. He was telling me on full tank £20 he achieves around 400 miles. I was really surprised to find that out because there's no way any diesel car would even do 300 miles for that money. What I really want to know is how good or bad it is to drive an LPG car comapred to a diesel one on motorways. -
Government grants for LPG conversions - 1 May 2006 (Forum)

Merc S W140 + LPG 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Direct imports from Germany are tempting, the only problem is fuel consumption. I think that all W140 use straight-six engines ? How do they cope with LPG conversion ? We're talking smaller ones, like 280 or 300 (I guess 300 is actually 3.2) ? - - - - - - - I am the only Pole over here. -
LPG Conversion 29 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Dear All, I'm thinking of having a LPG conversion on my Ford Escort (1.6L, 16v Zetec). I read in HJ column last week that the Zetec E engines suffered from valve seat recession, how can I tell whether mines and "E" type. Does anyone have any advise (do it, don't do it etc.) -
LPG 5 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I am a relatively new reader of this excellent form of motoring exchange so forgive me if this is old hat. I have just read an article by a motoring journalist extolling the virtues of LPG from economy to environment. What are the views of the backroom boys ?. Are there any users who have converted to dual fuel who can pass on their experiences. How is it on high performance motors ?. -
LPG - The fuel of the future?? 5 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I've been out making enquiries about buying a Dual Fuel (Petrol/LPG) car. My experience has been Vauxhall are the only manufacturer with any readily available information but production of cars has been temporarily suspended. The Ford dealer did not have any information whatsoever. -
Cheap LPG? 16 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I can't help but think that this is going to go the same way as diesel in a few years time (particularly if more people do invest in an LPG vehicle) and the government will start piling the tax on the gas. My question to anyone who can answer it is, as LPG is surely just simple 'Calor' Propane (many filling stations have a big fillable cylinder same as people in the country do for storage!)
