Mini John Cooper Works (R56) - Clutch Replacement - Dual Mass Flywheel too???? 21 May 2014 (Forum)
My question is, if the DMFlywheel looks to be ok (after the garage has had a look at it), should I be happy at just getting the clutch replaced alone? I was told by the tech that if the DMF isn't damaged, then there's no point in spending the £600 or so for the part alone to replacie it, as it should be fine. I just thought that due to the high cost of labour to get to the DMF, is it false economy not to replace it as a matter of course, or are they reliable if the clutch hasn't affected it? -
Skoda Yeti / VW Golf VI - Dual Mass Flywheel on 1.2 TSI Engine? 23 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, This is a very useful forum. I have read many previous discussions on how to preserve the DMF and I have noted that petrol engines are less likely to suffer from a DMF fail due to the lower vibration and "sound" travel. Out of curiosity I fired two emails, one to VW and one to Skoda, enquiring whether the Golf VI and the Yeti have DMFs, however the replies that came back were as follows: Golf VI 1.2 TSI - Single Mass Flywheel Yeti 1.2 TSI - Dual Mass Flywheel Now, as far as I am concern, the are the same car, and I don't see VW offering two types of gearbox/flywheel/clutch as the reason for acquiring Seat, Skoda and Audi (not quite so much Bugatti and Bentley) were to save cost and having different parts on the same car defies the reason for this. -
Ford S-MAX - Dual Mass Flywheels - what causes them to go? 11 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Car has done maybe 50 miles? Garage end up removing clutch and diagnose failed DMF. New one installed. Collected yesterday and gone again! Duff batch? -
Vauxhall Vectra C - Noise on depressing clutch pedal. 27 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I think ould be central slave cylinder clutch release bearing. But the depot clutch houses tell me I need new dmf and clutch (which includes release bearing) total £800-£1000. I am sceptical that all this needs replacing if all the trouble is the bearing. They tell me the dmf breaks down and that when they take the clutch out they have to put a new one in. -
Golf mk6 1.6tdi - Clutch judder when pulling away + between 1st&2nd. 18 Dec 2014 (Forum)
35,000 miles on the clock and had a new gearbox around 3000 miles ago under warranty. While changine the gearbox they didn't bother to check the clutch, clutch bearing or DMF though. I suspect my clutch and or DMF are on the way out. Anyone else have any further ideas? -
BMW 320D SPORT 2004 - BMW 320D Does Dual Mass Flywheel needs replacing? 6 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Anyway, it was driving perfect afterwards but I booked it in for a clutch check anyway....... The garage then rang and told me the DMF was in a bad condition and needed replacing along with the clutch and £1000 bill to go with it! Anyway, I asked them to put it back together as they said the clutch was not at fault but would need replacing along with the DMF. -
DMF's and the van connection 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
There's advice to start the vehicle rolling on tickover and then to make the smoothest of changes, which is admirable, but i for one would be bored to death in minutes, and large cities would grind to a halt, and i'm sure that 99% of drivers would be the same. Do the likes of the Ford transit and its peers have DMF's? If they do, how come they aren't falling apart all over the place with disgruntled owners jumping up and down and shouting from the rooftops. I drove transits back in the 70's, they used the V4 petrol which in its high compression form in the Ford cars would blow a head gasket very often, but in LC form as fitted to transit would last years. -
Ford Focus - Clunk on gear change 29 Sep 2019 (Forum)
A few months ago I got the DMF and Clutch replaced on my 2009 Focus 1.8 TDCi, 135,000 miles. Soon afterwards, I noticed that when changing from 1st to 2nd gear, there is an audible 'clunk' when I lifting the clutch up (as I take my foot off it). -

the following, I'd be grateful:- 1) The car does not have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) 2) Strangely, the car does not have a dual mass flywheel (DMF) 3) The engine is chain cam, rather than cam belt. Cheers Mr Moo -
Vauxhall Vectra - Dual Mass Flywheel 22 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The nearest I've got is one Service Man at a Vauxhall dealer letting me know that the cost of a replacement flywheel suggests that it has a standard flywheel as the DMF would be more expensive. If I have to replace the clutch - it's done 91k - does it follow that the flywheel is replaced (whether it is a standard one or a DMF)? Also, If my car is 2003 - does that mean it is a C type? -

Dual mass flywheel ? 2 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Can anyone explain exactly what a dual mass flywheel is please. An ordinary flywheel is nice and easy to understand - so why exactly is a DMF needed and what advantages does it offer? Thanks in anticipation. -
Ford Focus - Transmission play 17 Jun 2012 (Forum)
My question is how much rotational play/movement is normal? Could it be something to do with a worn CV joint? (I have just had the DMF, clutch and slave cylinder replaced, but I don't think its the DMF/clutch, as the movement would vary with the gear). -
It's worth more without one 1 Jun 2008 (Forum)
An auctioneer calling a diesel VW Touran described it as 'no dmf'. He clearly meant the absence of a dual mass flywheel as a benefit. Are there any other examples of cars which are worth more if something is not fitted? -

Ford Mondeo 2006 2.2 TDCI - Engine Noise 20 Nov 2013 (Forum)

Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.0TDCi clutch woes 7 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I understand this car has a hydraulic slave clylinder release system so it cant be adjusted to rectify the drag (im assuming this is what it is) so the question is am i really looking at a whole new clutch kit and possible dual mass flywheel (it does clatter a bit when starting and a vibration can be felt through the pedal, and has done 91,000) Im told if the starter motor is removed and its full of metal dust the DMF needs replacing as it disintergrates and collects in the starter. Ive been quoted £600 all in for the clutch, slave cylinder and DMF by my local clutch specialist, which seems very cheap. would it be worth the extra £300 odd to replace the DMF while the clutch is out? -

Hi there, I have an issue with Vauxhall at the moment with the Dual Mass Flywheel, The car Is a Vectra (57 Plate) and just out of warranty by 6 months.
