  • Cars on TV 9 May 2003 (Forum)
Just been watching one of the numerous house programmes on TV(Channel 4's Selling Houses) and noticed the camera lingering for rather a long time on the Peugeot 607 driven by the presenter. If you watch Location, Location, Location you'll see them do the same with a Volvo XC90. Not really bothered about a debate about the pros and cons of soft marketing, but it got me thinking once again about the long, chequered relationship between cars and TV.
  • V5s 24 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Can I use the tear off strip (the one for the new owner) even if the previous owner hasn't sent his section off? Up until now I was *pleased* I hadn't got the registration doc because of the camera problem. What action should I take? Sending off the log book is clearly the previous owners responsibility. -- These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads.
  • Licence plates - a new career? 8 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Have the Government invented a new crimimal career for basic street thug types? Say £10 a set of plates from specificied vehicle or some such? The car park is festooned with cameras, as is Guildford town centre but of course it also requires someone to watch them/give a damn whats happening.
  • Look mum, one hand! 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Whenever I watch a tv programme that features a camera inside the car, Deals on Wheels, etc, 90% of the drivers involved seem to spend most of their time with their left hand resting on the gear lever. Apart from the loss of steering control should an emergency arise, it is just plain uncomfortable.
  • Another alternator problem 28 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Had a lovely drive in the BX from Lauder to Catterick down the A68 yesterday, the Geodesy politely reminding me that accident blackspots seem to occur wherever there's a speed camera - what a coincidence, eh? Anyway, every few miles the battery light came on, very faintly and the headlamps seemed to get brighter. Then the light would go out and the headlamps would settle back to normal.
  • Avoiding a ticket 19 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I say old chaps !! What would be the legal position if one were to recieve a camera speeding ticket whilst one's vehicle were in the custody of a citizen from another country ? Would the authorities pursue the foreign driver ? Could be useful if one's employer has employees from Europe here.
  • Dangerous Drivers School Channel 5 28 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Enough should be enough with some people, the DVLA should be able to watch that and just remove licences from these people. No if, no but, they may 'change' on camera but give it a week and they'll be back to normal. Its a shame they wont be forcefully removed from the road until they kill someone.
  • The future's looking bleak 14 Aug 2004 (Forum)
No problem I thought, the place of my birth has many convenient side roads in which to park so I dropped Mrs V. off and went off to park with the kids. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! Cars, everywhere, no entry signs, one way streets, speed cameras, road humps, bus lane cameras, worst of all, street after street of residents only parking zones, temptingly devoid of all but a few vehicles. Not being a wanton lawbreaker though, I drove around for about 20 minutes searching for somewhere to park.
  • Bad driving LGV, report?? 8 May 2010 (Forum)
He then tears past the last camera probably on his 56mph limiter. My partner wished to return to compliment so once out of the restriction I drew alongside in lane 2 to allow her to do this. (yes we know two wrongs don't make a right and all that!).
  • Big Brother Speed Limiters 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The system ? which could eventually make speed cameras redundant ? is known as Intelligent Speed Adaption and works in a similar way to in-car satellite navigation systems. Its backers say it could be easily and relatively cheaply integrated into existing dashboard technology.
  • TFL ULEZ charges 8 Nov 2024 (Forum)
You hear these stories of cloning number plates - is it possible to find out from TFL what days I have been charged for driving in the ULEZ, and where the cameras picked me up?  And, if so, is this via a some sort of Data Protection Act Subject Access Request or is there another procedure?   TIA Mark
  • Hyundai Bayon - Repeater light confusion 30 Jul 2023 (Forum)
So what if you went through the primary light on green or orange but then just before you get to the repeater light, it turns red. Do you have to stop? No traffic light cameras or anything but this is confusing to me. As you can see on the map of the location, there is a stop line at the repeater light which indicates you should stop...? However, as you can also see there is traffic turning into the road from the right and obviously they don't have to stop.
  • Parking on your own street 15 Jul 2023 (Forum)
ocid=msedgntp&cvid=77cb5b8f23a4414faa82a912ea961fc8&ei=12">People face ‘outrageous’ £100 fines for parking on their own street (msn.com)  This is the second instance of councils restricting car owners I have read in two days.  In Cardiff a series of residential roads controlled by ANPR  cameras that fines drivers not registered to these roads to avoid the free movement of others who my be short cutting or parking..  You may have a perfectly legitimate reason to visit the area a relative, friend ebay purchase or whatever.
  • Transit - Speeding in Transit panel van 8 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Hello, Not a major issue, probably £100 fine and some points, I have a clean licence at the moment, but, after passing many mobile speed cameras, police cars etc doing 70mph in my van with no issues for many years, now been clobbered for doing 77mph on dual carriageway rather than 60mph. You can only do 70mph in car derived van, not that anyone has ever been bothered about that before, I knew, just assumed they never did.
  • A century of car evolution, and yet... 3 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Could this be why so many drivers neglect basic maintenance?  So many of the modern goodies like "auto hold"  "hill hold", reversing cameras and countless safety features are cracking good, but I despair at (most) car manufacturers' inability to get these little details right!
  • My number plate cloned! 6 Jul 2018 (Forum)

It records 15 seconds after press, but before press it is a lottery what you will get. It can go from 2 min and 45 sec down to 1 sec. Because this camera splits files in 3 minute parts, it depend in what part of that video file you press the button. Here is my footage: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGKkBthxymVMSpbptXR8leQ It is set at 1080p and 30fps.
  • Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 09-12-2017 Part 2 11 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Second hand-over... What happens if the dealer or test driver has an accident or gets caught speeding by a camera. The car is registered to the buyer - this could cause lots of trouble. You have more rights to reject a car within 30 days of buying it and if the dealer holds on to it for a few weeks then this will eat in to your time to reject it if there are any problems.
  • Oh No... - More inconsiderate Parking 9 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I saw a "Parking Warden" the other day on the main road nearby, who, after explaining, told me he would drive past in his camera car, no need to stop, and it would be monitored /uploaded and a ticket issued by post. I have no wish to confront the said person as he gets very verbally aggresssive quickly. We'll see..
  • Car Hire - Damage on Collection 7 Sep 2017 (Forum)
If the vehicle is being checked in and damage is noticed (and I am sure invoiced) then it must be on their systems surely. The other day I collected a car from Dublin and told the rep that I had a digital camera and would take photos after I declined the excess waiver premium. I still had to go back in and get the damage signed off, and when I pointed out that the car had not been washed, she shruggeg her shoulders and smiled, said oh sorry!
