• Astra 1994 !! URGENT !! 24 Dec 2006 (Forum)
  Hi, brought the missus a astra without her knowing for xmas, no i connected the battery and in the engine bay top left corner it started sparking when puting battery back on, then smoke started coming out if the interior middle vents a little, iv brought a new battery cohnnected it and still same thing the wipers on the front wont switch off so i had to pull relay out and all the lights work interior/dashboard but when i go to turn it over it just makes a noice like there is no spark. is this a prob with earth wire?

  This week on calling MB 24h when my car won't start, I get a request for a credit card but it's only a precaution in case the cause is a flat battery, that failure isn't covered and the cost is £184! Anyay the car starts, I cancel the call-out before they arrive, find the card has already been debited, they confirm it will be credited. Then a letter arrives later from MB advising it is being charged!

  Multiple explosions some are fairly big with white smoke and flames while everyone is running for cover. Is it possible for the batteries to actually explode? I thought EV batteries can catch fire and can't be put down due to the chemical run off but wasn't aware of actual explosions involved. Maybe there was something on-board of the affected cars but that's anyone's guess.

  Instead it was the alternator. I changed that and after I left the service, at about 20 to 30 minutes I see the battery indicator up.  Checked the altenator and it was realy hot and was making the sound again. I restarted the car and the battery light went off untill after 30 seconds. Alternator is making 14.5-14.6 at idle and right when the battery indicator comes on, lights dim and voltage drops to 13.4-13.6.

  The alternator on my Honda CR-V has packed up.  It looks like there's a short-circuit somewhere because it gets hot and smokes when the battery is connected. I've got a replacement alternator, and now need to drive the car about two miles to the mechanic to get it fitted.  I've got the battery charged, so will have no problem starting the car and driving it for a couple of miles without the alternator running, but I want to disconnect the alternator so it doesn't flatten the battery or (worst case) start a fire.

  Hello all. I recently ran my Corsa battery flat by leaving the lights on. (It was a new battery although only used for one run after installation.)  After finding the battery dead, I managed to find someone with jump leads and after connecting them up, all dash lights came on and the engine turned over, but the car went totally dead again after a couple of seconds.

  The manual for my Mazda 323TD advises the following procedure for using jump leads: Connect a lead from the positive terminal on the discharged battery to the positive terminal on the booster battery; then a lead from the negative terminal on the booster battery to the 'engine hanger' in the discharged car's engine bay. My FiL followed this method to jump start his petrol Corsa C.

  I have always found the battery in my Astra struggles, especially in cold weather. I replaced the standard battery with a heavy duty one last January, but it still struggles during the winter when starting from cold, especially if not used every day.

  The battery is dead but as soon as i connect it to another car there is power going to the car, all the lights appear but the key ignition light flashes for about 10 minute and also this coil light, the battery goes completely dead again in about 2 mins, help!!!!!!!!

  I've followed the instructions in the handbook and it won't turn off, only when the key was in the ignitions, when I take it out the alarm tries to sound again. So I disconnected the battery, dug out my Airflow battery conditioner and hooked it up, but only the orange 'On' light shows, I seem to remember the conditioning light should also be on. I went to the Airflow website but it seems to be sales only, has anyone used one lately?

  Hi All, the key fobs for my peugeot for my 306 go through batteries too fast. The problem just started happening to my main set and my spare set at the same time. I\'ve seen other people have the same problems, but not seen a solution except buying a new set from Peugeot for £70.

  Hi, What would be the symptons if my alternator was failing, (other than not charging the battery). I'm trying to determin wether my alternator is faulty or if the battery is no longer holding the charge. Is there a way I can find out. If the alternator was weak, would it affect the car whilst driving in any way.

  So my questions to you guys are, how likely is it that the battery will die? Is this a common occurence in hybrids? more importantly is this a common occurence in Toyota's hybrids? will purchasing a Prius with full service history make any difference to the length of battery life (i suspect not, but again, I'm by no means an expert).

  So i pop the outside of the handle off, use the key in the door, alarm goes off (not sure this should happen), get in, turn the ignition on and it says replace battery in key, and I drive home.  I replace the battery in my key with a new one.. it doesn't work (no light on the fob when pushing a button).  I replace the battery in my key with one from my wifes car (battery definitely has charge), it still doesn't work.
