2004 Ford Focus 1.8 tdci - Loss of power 7 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Another indictor would be that it always happens when I slacked down for a traffic light or stop sign, or turned into another street, or on the open road, when I slacked off for a slower car and need to accelerate again, I loose all power and the light starts flickering. Even at high speed, I can press the clutch, swith off the engine, let it run dead for a couple of seconds, and start it again, and it would be fine. For a while, anyway. I had it on computers for diagnostics, but could never pick up anything. Can anyone here give me any suggestions on what it could be? -
Renault Clio 1.4i 16v 2001 - Stalling at junctions, rough idle, cut out 30 Nov 2014 (Forum)
A restart would cure it. Research indicated that this might be due to a vacuum leak so with the engine running I sprayed carb cleaner on the map sensor and servo vacuum hose connections and wiggled them. To my delight I discovered the brake servo hose connection was leaking. An O ring and a bit of silicone sealant and all is well. -
Fiat Ducato / Iveco Daily - Buying an LWB van ? 17 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I don't care too much for inside comfort etc. really more about space, reliabilty and fuel economy, as i may occasionally be doing 1000 mile runs across Europe. I should note I will not be carrying anything tremendously heavy, usually just furniture. Having said the above I've been looking at Fiat Ducato Maxi's and Iveco Daily's (particularly the 35S12). -
Citroen Berlingo 1.9D 54 plate - Very strange occurance - brakes/engine? 24 Sep 2014 (Forum)
What I don't understand is why this only happened (Obviously, anyway) just the once, and if it would be related to the running hot problem. normally it just gets hot going up hill or over 60mph, but it will do it! Today it really felt like the engine was about to seize up, or spit bottom end all over the road! Oil and coolant are fine, btw. -
57 plate Dodge nitro 2.8crd diesel - Injector nozzles melted 16 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Today I have stripped it down, timing is spot on so no issues there however, after taking the injectors out to remove the head (due to specialists finding the tips of two glow plugs which had burnt/melted away), all 4 injector nozzles have melted, I have removed the head all the bores and pistons look good along with all valves, rocker arms, cams etc.. It looks like it has risen to a very high temperature. I'm not sure whether it has run on it's own oil, turbo seems to be ok no excessive play, a little oil residue in the turbo pipe but nothing more than I've seen on other cars, I cannot see how turbo has gone at 39k. Other thought is maybe it has been filled up with petrol hence the contaminated fuel light staying on with ignition for a good while? -
Mondeo 2.0tdci engine starts no throt 7 Sep 2014 (Forum)
No judders or jerks, no loss of power, no warning lights and it doesnt stall - it is as if nothing is wrong until I have parked and want to restart the engine again. It has been in a ford dealership now for 2 weeks. They have changed the alternator, run the diagnostice tests - which showed no faults and have now told me that there is a low presure reading on one of the injectors and I will have to have to have the cylinder head removed in order to check if that is the problem and I may even need a new engin! -
Corsa 1.3 CDTi Life 2004 - Corsa 1.3CDTI low power, EML/emission lights on 24 Aug 2014 (Forum)
My thinking was that if the turbo looks OK then the MAP sensor could be faulty, I took it off, cleaned it and replaced it and disconected the battery for half an hour to clear any faults. Reconnected battery and no faut, engine runs fine. Next day fault is back, my thought is to replace the MAP sensor, any other suggestions? -
Help! Which car? 6 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I've read lots of reviews, and I thought something like a Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 or Peugeot 207 might be good, but from what I've read I get the impression they aren't ideal for motorway driving. Those that are good for motorway driving are more expensive to run and cost more in general... I'm basically stuck. I quite like the look of a C1 if a small car is recommended, but I really like Vauxhall Corsas, Seat Ibizas, Mazda 2s... more space than I need but perhaps more suitable? -
Subaru - Tip for 2.0 owners suffering performance flatspots 3 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I imagine this would apply to all 2.0 160ps engines (as used in the Impreza, Legacy, Forester since late 2005 I think). He also mentioned that being high compression engines (11:1) there is a power benefit from running higher octane petrol if you wish, the engine management is designed to take advantage of it. -
Hyundai trajet - Accident in one way road 16 Jul 2014 (Forum)

He said he gestured for me to stop but i didnt even see him. Police gave him a motor ticket for driving wrong way. I went to hospital because of neck, shoulder and back pain. -
Mazda CX-5 - Mazda CX-5 - Petrol vs Diesel 2WD 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
On the other hand I worry that a Euro6 diesel will give me some scary bills in 4-5 years that a 4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol has more chance of avoiding. On the other hand the diesel is cheaper on road tax and gets better MPG on a long run. But this would be wiped out by the cheaper purchase price of the petrol and lower fuel cost per litre. Any words of advice from anyone greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dan. -
Corsa C 1.2 16V - Drive by wire hrottle problem 7 Jun 2014 (Forum)
When it settles and I press on the accelerator pedal gently the same thing starts to happen...the more I press on the pedal the more frequently it happens until I reach full throttle when the throttle body just goes closed to fully open constantly. When the engine is running, ticking over nicely, I do the same with the pedal and when the revs build up to roughly 2500ish the engine stumbles (when driving the speedo drops to zero) but recovers and goes higher. When I press down quickly on the pedal, the engine stumbles, warning lights come on and a loud sucking noise can be heard from the air filter box...then when it recovers the warning lights go out. -
I have recently bought an 07 plate Focus C-max 1.6 - Hesitation when ubder load. 3 May 2014 (Forum)
important; font-family: verdana, geneva, lucida, "lucida grande", arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; font-weight: 400; border-bottom-color: blue; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; position: relative; background-color: transparent;">runs well , except for a bit of hesitation. The hesitation only seems to occur when under load , eg going up hill , and only when you put your foot to the floor in 3rd or 4th Vauxhall Monterey transmission judder 26 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Worse when moving off slowly and much worse when hot, but no vibration at speed. Whine from transmission Under Power ONLY, and at all speeds. Disappears on the over-run. Note: Auto box has been checked electronically, changes correctly, and as smoothly as a 92K example can be expected. Tests/Action so far: Auto transmission fluid changed (as far as is possible). -
Chevrolet Cruze 2.0 vcdi Auto - A good "bargain" vs similar Astra? 5 Apr 2014 (Forum)
For what we need the two cars drive with similarity and only when pushing on around the bends does the Astra drive better, but I cannot justify the extra £3k being asked for the Astra. Is the Cruise worth a punt even with Chevrolet pulling out of Europe next year? We will run the car until it's 6 or 7 years old. P.s. I'm aware of DPF's , I will be driving this car 24k per year and my wife will be driving my non DPF diesel. Thanks, Wug. -
Tyne Tunnel - what are they playing at? 6 Mar 2014 (Forum)
In the last 6 months there are tailbacks northbound stretching back over a mile every morning , and it all seems down to the fact the muppets running the tunnel close it every single time a petrol/fuel tanker wants to go through. Each one of these closures only lasts 2-3 minutes but the cumulative effect is causing huge and unecessary delays. They don't do this on the southbound tunnel and there are no delays there at all. -
Ford Mondeo - Radiator Issues - Rev's Drop Causing Car To Stall 27 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Basically I have a ford mondeo 2.0 zetec 2001 petrol. I put some water in the radiator tank yesterday as it was running low. I then went on a drive for about 15 minutes and I could hear the radiator fan going berzerk, funny knocking noises where coming from the engine, my car war starting to over heat which was then causing my car to stall everytime I went to slow down. -

FIAT Grande Punto - Grande Punto 1.9JTD Sporting MAF sensor issue HELP 19 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Hello all.. I have a 2007 Grande Punto 1.9 diesel sporting with the engine management light on, car runs perfect no funny hickups etc although the fuel consumption has gone fairly bad. I have had it plugged in, which came back being fault code P0111 and P0101 which indicates that the air flow metre is at fault (lack of voltage supplied). -
Any - Learner's first car 31 Oct 2013 (Forum)
In keeping with my official status as an old fuddy-duddy, I've added to the list of potential vehicles the Hyundai Getz and Kia Picanto (long warranties in mind) and also suggested he consider some Japanese offerings like the Yaris. Ideally he wants a reliable, cheap to run (if there is such a car anymore) 5 door hatchback with up to a 1.2 petrol engine but, other than the above, I'm not able to offer much more by way of advice, except that my natural (possibly out of date) inclination is to avoid French. :) I've had a search for relevant threads here but could only find stuff several years old and would really appreciate informed current opinions as I'm certain there'll be lots to consider as we try to narrow the field down and match what's affordable (purchase cost plus insurance) to what's desirable.
