  We live in London but go away regularly, Cornwall, New Forrest etc. We come down to two cars, the BMW X3 or the VW Tiguan. We've driven both. The Tiguan is certainly more flashy but the X3 is bigger and the engine is nicer. However there's nothing swaying us towards either. The X3 could be purchased second hand at about £18k.

  I just recently returned from BMW Milton Keynes who informed me that my engine management light was on and then charged me £60 for the privilege of telling me 'why' is was on! Apparently the cause is the front oxygen lambda sensor that is situated on the outlet exhaust downpipe manifold.

  Hello all, I've been offered FiL's 318i auto, which I'm intending to buy as soon as he decides what he's changing it for. The car has full BMW service history, and has just had its Inspection 2 at 60,000 miles. I know from the CBCB that I should have the ATF changed on the auto box as BMW won't have done this, but what else should I look out for once I get it?

  Hi I have a 53 plate BMW M Sport Convertible with the 18" BMW alloys, recently I had some tyres changed and ever since I have had a handling issue. Over 60MPH and usually on long sweeping motorway bends I can suddenly find myself in the adjoining lane!!!!!!

  Sorry to be a bit vague on this one, but it's something I've found so amusing and intriguing for the past day or two that I felt I had to get to the bottom of it! The mother of a friend apparently was sitting in traffic the other day in a fairly new BMW (May 2004) Sorry, as I say, I don't know which model - just that it's a beamer. Apparently smoke started to come from the car - I think from the clutch area - so the lady immediately called for assistance and the thing was taken to the BMW dealership.

  A friend of mine is looking to buy a 1995 BMW 316i auto. The car has 52k miles up (this is in Guernsey so it's all round-town driving) and 2 owners. It appears to have been well looked-after despite the garage not having the service book to hand (will run the chassis number past the local BMW dealer to see what history they have on it).

  Has anyone any experience of running a new shape BMW 7 series at this age and with plus 100,000 miles? I would be interested to hear of the reliability and running costs experienced. Also is it necessary to take them to a BMW garage, I have always in the past avoided main garages, as they are have generaly proven in my experience anyway, to be pretty useless and also expensive.

  The engineer kept referring to the fact they have seen many vehicles on autotrader much cheaper and suggested the BMW Dealer was charging too much for the vehicle. Whilst I appreciate you pay a premium from a main dealer the reason you do so is for peace of mind and thats why we purchased the car originally from a BMW dealer.

  hi new to the forum after bit of advice,ive just bought a bmw 320d privately and ran great for last 2 weeks, but now it struggles to start but when running its like new,i took it to local garage and the machine came back as three glow plugs gone so replaced the 4 of them and today went to start it and same,but on third attempt it started and like before runs great,any adivce please

  I know that some cars have a declared oil consumtion. While on my vw I top it up with 1liter every 5-6000km, the BMW seems to be more thirsty with 1liter every 800-1000km. The engine seems to be in good health with no bluish smoke at the tailpipe, but are there any known problems to this specific engine or manufacturer?
