  Bargains Bought, Despite Auction Frenzy Today 21 Sep 2005 (News)
  With just two halls running, Blackbushe today was crowded with bidders, yet the wiser among them still drove home in bargains. The 10-month-old 14k mile 2004/54 Renault Modus 1.5 dCi 80 Expression with a/c sold for £6,700, which looked pretty reasonable to me. £6,250 for a facelift 85k mile 2001/51 BMW 525iSE manual wasn’t bad either.

  A 90k mile 02 reg Mercedes S320L started low at £14k, but fierce competitive bidding took it to £20,100, indicating a strong RHD export market somewhere for high mileage small engine long wheelbase S Class. Upcoming auctions at Blackbushe include Wednesday 6th April: Renault Financial Services with at least one Modus and some more mega bargain Vel Satis; and a Ford ex-rental sale open to the public on 26th April. April Top Car sales at Blackbushe are on Mondays 11th and 25th.

As the month grinds on there are going to be more bargains at auction. But they won’t be if you pay too much for them. So if you’re new to the game, keep your of Parkers or What Car price guides out of site, show a bit of restraint and don’t let enthusiasm run away with you.

  So was £12,300 for 2k mile 02 plate independently imported Peugeot 206CC (Just £13,499 brand new from trade Sales.) While £6,850 paid for an 8k miles unwarranted 02 reg old shape Renault Megane 1.4 Expression was just plain daft. (Trade Sales does a new 1.4 Authentique with a/c for £7,499.) Even £8,050 paid for a 900 mile 52 reg Toyota Yaris 1.3GLS 5-door made no sense.

  The 1927 Delahaye 135 Coupe des Alpes cabriolet by Chapron offered in wonderfully original condition made €619,800, while the other Chapron, a 1975 Citroën SM Mylord, and one of just seven examples built, went for €548,300 - a new SM benchmark. At the other end of the scale, the 1980 Renault 5 Turbo Groupe 4 Calberson made €399,300, while the 1984 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Evolution 1 factory car sold for €312,500 - both new records for their type at open auction. The Solo Alfa sale - a collection of 40 post-war models - attracted significant attention towards the end of the second day.
