  • Audi A4 B8 (2008 - ) - Multitronic reliability 25 Jun 2008 (Forum)
As other posters have reported well, even the brilliance of the 6 cylinder diesel engine is not enough to compensate for the twitchiness of the 3 series on the run flats. I drove a 325d Sport last weekend. Loved the engine, should be labelled entertainment, but felt as if we were in a cross wind the whole time with minor steering adjustment being constantly required.
  • Cars still being flogged to death, no saving then? 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Will some people choose to just not take the car out instead or will they be seen at the roadside gasping in indignation and blaming something else, such as the car, for having run out of fuel? ;) Even made myself yawn there, was it worth bothering?
  • Volkswagen Tiguan SUV (2008 - ) - Broke down 7 Jun 2008 (Forum)
New Tiguan, 2 months old, 2000 mls, had a run to Manchester yesterday to see the daughter at University. Went down to my usual supermarket and topped up with diesel, on the way out in second gear does not seem to have any power, pull in, switch off, switch back on and glow plug light flashing plus message to get in touch with dealer.
  • Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 1999 1.6 Automatic gear box playing up in rain 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I have a Renault Megane Scenic Alize 1.6v (V reg) Automatic that has recentl;y started playing up, have just bought it second hand in December 2007, the problem is this: Last Sunday i drove to Birmingham, it started to rain and then after a few miles my gear box started playing up, no power, sluggish and when stopped the car was vibrating, like a car that is idling but just managing to stay running, you know, close to cutting out/ stalling. The next day, no problems, its fine every other time, but today it is and was raining really, really heavy (Tuesday 3rd June 2008) and i only managed to make it to work this morning, the rain was heavier.

  • Maximum miles from a tank of fuel 30 May 2008 (Forum)
Based on my current fuel economy of 69.1 mpg (trip computer accurate to 0.5 mpg), I think I could reach 1050 miles before running dry. Going to definitely take it up to 1000 miles so that I can tick it off the strange list of achievements that I want to achieve! So am I alone in my sadness or do other people want to 'come out' ;-) Bost p.s. car is a 10yr old Passat TDI with a notional fuel tank capacity of 62 litres but with a little bit of 'venting' will take another gallon or so.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 93 1.5 Diesel tank sender unit question 5 May 2008 (Forum)
Hubby has been having problems with his Corsa cutting out and refusing to run properly for the last 6 months. Tried various things to sort it, and since the last time its done over 1000 miles without so much as a hiccup, until it broke down again this week with exactly the same symptoms.
  • SEAT Ibiza II (1993 - 1999) - '99 Cupra 2.0 8v GTi - good car? 5 May 2008 (Forum)
Thoroughly enjoyed it - very 'rorty,' very fast when desired (60ish in second makes it good for overtaking safely and fun for pulling out of the bends!) and easy to drive at a slower pace and round town. 31 mpg on a fast run wasn't too bad from a 2.0 engine either, I thought. Faults, given it's a 8/9 year old car? First and second are very stiff and clunky, the clutch is a bit stiff and theres a worrying 'shunt' from the chassis when floored in second if dropping down quickly from third, but that may just be the effect of a comparitively powerful engine in a small, lightweight car.
  • Mitsubishi Carisma (1995 - 2004) - 99 1.8 MOT failed on CO emissions 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The car needed a new lambda sensor and an Italian tune up last year to pass. Unfortunately the car gets mainly short runs and is normally fed 95 octane. High CO made me think the air filter was at fault, but I'd expect the CO to be worse at fast idle if that was the problem. Garage are muttering about faulty injectors, and I'm inclined to think that has logic, with poor combustion producing the high CO and highish HC from unburned fuel.
  • Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Who sells the most economical diesel for my car? 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Sorry if this is an old subject. My CR-V is now three weeks old and fully run in according to the guide. It's a 2.2 diesel and at the start I was getting worried, because I was getting nothing like the 41mpg that most claimed was possible - 35-37 at best. My daily journey is five miles through town, forty miles on a motorway - 66mph according to the satnav - and then five miles through Bristol city centre, each way.
  • Rover 25 (1999 - 2005) - 02 1.4 16v engine misfire 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Occasionally, she can coax the car through this in 10 seconds or so, but usually it involves pulling over and listening to a very noisy shuddery engine note that rights itself after a minute or two. This problem has defeated the motor trade up to now, including a Rover Main dealer (as was). Running diagnostics either shows nothing amiss or refers to faults that are not pertinent to this model. Spark plugs and fuel filter have been replaced, and the fuel lines flushed, to no avail. The only significant work undertaken on the engine prior to this problem occurring, was to replace a blown head gasket at 55k.
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 05 2.0 gt t Turbo problem or not 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
So far to say it could be Turbo because it sounds like it is not good enough, especially as the car has corrected itself and is running as it should with no Turbo noise evident to me and others. Thankyou
  • Honda Stream (2002 - 2006) - Stream 2.0 i-VTEC - advice please 14 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Honda engineering and reputation for reliability of the chain-cam 2.0 is the main appeal of the Stream, but I'm not sure this is enough to swing it, in the light of the cheaper running costs and versatility of the competition. I would be grateful for any advice from past/present owners to aid the decision making process, in particular with regard to: - carrying capacity and practicality with rearmost seats folded.
  • Hyundai i30 (2007 - ) - Head or heart in buying a car? 13 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have had this car for four years, nearly five and apart from the usual noises and minor problems with the electrics - keep having to reposition the bulbs in the back light clusters - I have been happy with the car. It is comfortable and relaxing to drive and runs well along smooth roads; less so in stop-start mode. I have looked at the Hyundai i30, which I know HJ has sung its praises, and it looks very well made; and everywhere has received good reviews. However, I occasionally see the new Megane Saloon 2006 onwards and have to say there is somehting about it that looks attactive.
  • SEAT Cordoba (1994 - 2003) - Vario 98 1.9TDi central locking leak 3 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The central locking on my SEAT (which uses the same system to Polos and Golfs of that age) has developed a leak. When one locks the doors, they all still lock, but the vacuum pump continues to run for about half a minute, after which point the doors will not unlock automatically. It was more of an inconvenience when I couldn't easily open the fuel filler cap despite following the instructions in the manual!
  • Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 2002 1.9TDi - Loses power, sometimes wont start 3 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Since then it's beean more or less ok, but last week it's back to lost power. Fine when 1st started runs ok for about 4 minutes then power goes, odd day it's ok. 3 days ago it was fine and it went to manchester and back ok. 250 miles, would not start next day!! If you try to start it and it won't give it a couple of minutes then it most times will start, best if drivers door open and stand out side and turn the key.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 1998 1.8i - Engine cutting out under braking 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The car will also struggles intermittently on start up (takes 2/3 goes to start sometimes), and when started just the act of sticking it into reverse clutch down will cut out (same as when tapping the brakes first time). However some journeys the car will start first time, run fine and not cut out at all. Changing the battery, cleaning the stepper motor and cleaning fuse contacts on the brake/reserve lights circuit has made no difference so far. Any help much appreciated.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 2003 (December) 1.7CDTi - stalling when cold 25 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Secondhand (but known to be free from faults) fuel temp sensor in high pressure fuel pump - the reason for this is that autodata diagnostic equipment shows the fuel temp reading to be -34 degrees. how ever no change made the car runs fine once warm obviously this problem is fuel related but not sure what to do next. i want to sell the car as i have now done 10k miles since having it but cant sell it if it stalls. please can someone help thanks
  • Dilema of options for buying a new/newish car 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Go for a new vehicle and use a PCP, lease or business contract purchase. or indeed is there another option I have not thought of? Mainitaining the status quo is not viable! Her Skoda has been much more expensive to run than expected and can't be relied upon, hence the reason she wants/needs to change. That said I will be getting the Skoda and my old Mondeo will be going to the auctions. Any advice is much appreciated!
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.0 TDCi (130hp) Fly wheel ? 14 Feb 2008 (Forum)
It is when warm that the problem occurs - when restarting it can often take 3/4 turns of the key and then it seems to idle on 3 cylinders with absolutely no power but then eventually clears and behaves normally. Its been slightly rough running for a while now and although I asked the main dealer to have a listen they reported back its normal noise and some are more noisy then others -' Ive got a noisy one!' Its spent the day at a diesel injection specialists who have reported no significant faults aprt from one injector that need remapping but it was very minor.
