  • 2004 Megane 1.5 dCi 100 24 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Almost on 20K now and as I shall shortly be passing this car on to the lady it seems a good time to review. Hopefully will be of use to others considering this car. Things I like: 1. Great dCi engine. Always smooth, responsive and refined. Never failed to start, even when left for three weeks in well below zero temperatures.

  • Renault Grand Scenic - Renault Scenic no parking brake and "no faults"! 17 Mar 2019 (Forum)
We had to take our grand scenic (1.5dci - 06 reg) back to Mr. Clutch to have new clutch/cylinders/flywheel replaced under warranty (again!) but now we have no parking brake at all. The guy at Mr. Clutch said that the brakes locked on our car on the back of the recovery truck but the driver managed to "find a way" to release them (I'm guessing the manual release in the boot as the clip holding that in has now broken - see pic ).
  • Land Rover Discovery 4 - Restricted performance 25 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi, My wife and I bought a used LR D4 at the end on January - diesel, manual and about 83,000 miles. 3/4 weeks ago the Restricted Performance light came on. We have taken it to the local LR dealership and who thought it could be related to the fuel filter or moisture in the fuse box as a seal had broken, both where fixed.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2.0d 320d starting problems 21 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Fault still apparent. Secondly DDE warning lamp illuminated (think due to ezeestart being used to start engine as we were stuck 300 miles from home). Diagnostics this time threw up a fuel air mixture problem which was either an inlet manifold flapper valve problem of Air Mass Flow meter. On adice the AMF was changed...£335(luckily under warranty)!
  • Ford Fiesta Saloon - 3 years with ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi 30 Sep 2010 (Forum)
In fact we have been so pleased with the reliability & economey and the tourque which makes it a pleasure to drive we have taken out extended warranty with Ford & decided to keep. I have never had to top up with Oil in between services and the engine is so willing and quiet, very different from our previous 1.4 TDCi. I also have to say the body work is so much more substantial than our peugeout that in three years we are still car park ding free which is a result, as a ding used to appear in the 206 everytime we parked it !
  • Advice after being sold an accident repaired car? 5 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I will try and keep it as brief as possible so here goes the story. We bought a 2004 MG TF 160 in October last year for £9K from a local used car centre. The car had done 4,000 miles, however it is backed up with a service history supporting it was a thrid car doing 5-600 miles a year. Now it has had 4 owners and we were the 5th, however I at the time didnt see it too much a problem and was assured by the salesman it wasnt unusual nowdays with dealers registering first and especially with sports cars as they can become wrong purchases for people.
  • ID3 initial impressions. 26 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Picked up our new to us 72 plate VW ID3 earlier. Car is immaculate, I can’t even find a single stone chip. Added bonus from the dealer on top of what I regard as a good deal at £15,500 was a free Superguard application that they initially offered at circa £300!
  • Jaguar I-Pace - I-Pace nightmare? how to get solution/justice? 14 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Hi All   Apologies in advance for the long read but at my wits end with the unbelievable incompetence of Jaguar and the actual risk to life their vehicle poses. I'm the unfortunate owner of an approved used I-pace model 2020, under jag approved used warranty until the end of the year. The vehicle has had persistent Charging and 'high voltage system' faults which occur frequently when trying to DC charge it.
  • Ford s-max - Ford S-max reconditioned engine woes 25 Feb 2014 (Forum)
We were without the car for 5 weeks! because they were waiting on parts etc. That was a pain in the butt, but we were please to have the car back to working order...or so we thought. The car was using alot of oil, it was aparent that oil was visiably leaking from somewhere so we returned it to the garage.
  • Lexus - Caveat Emptor 26 Oct 2008 (Forum)
After 50 miles the gearbox failed, and my local Lexus dealer (superb service ? not the one I bought the car from) fitted a replacement box under warranty. While the car was on the ramp they noted and drew my attention to some irregularities and advised that I have the car inspected by the RAC. I did this and the RAC report identified that the vehicle had been in a significant front end shunt, and had been poorly repaired.
  • Leon glitch 16 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Fortunately, this is all under warranty! I'll let you know of any developments and try to get more specific information on the root cause of the fault - it may be worth including in the Car-by-Car breakdown. If anyone else has come across this in a Leon or other VAG TDi (especially the 110 bhp version), I'd like to hear what happened in other instances.
  • Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - Gearbox design flaw in Yaris (>2006) 26 Oct 2008 (Forum)
They haven't really. They've just replaced the alignment rings. I'm confident about this because they won't give us any paperwork showing that a new gearbox has been put in. I'm also confident about it because the gear change is now awful. It's extremely difficult to get the car to go into first unless you wait quite a while for the oil to warm up.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2004 TDCi 130 boot release mechanism malfunction 26 Feb 2012 (Forum)
; rust on bottom of back doors). All these were fixed by the dealer under warranty and I cannot really fault the dealer at all. On Sunday though (car now out of warranty), whilst at the supermarket, I opened the boot to put the groceries in and then went to close the boot. It wouldn't latch shut.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Common rail crap or what. Views please! 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
He gave me my depoisit back (£100 paid through ebay) and paid for a flight home. Car still mine if I want when it gets fixed. Only 2700 quid to buy in 1st place STill can't work out if he knew all along though. Anyway, had originally believed the mondy to be a great motor. Warranty direct has it for a great score in its reliability rating.
  • any - battery degradation, handy app 1 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Been having some starting issues with the Forester for a while, seemed like fuel starvation, changed the fuel pump, spark plugs were due so changed them too, it was cold starting troubles only, once started it would fire up instantly until the next cold start, car running perfectly otherwise. As some of you know  i start work early, a 3.15am start from my house is quite normal so it has to be reliable. Last thing i assumed was battery issues, top line Yuasa roughly 4 years old, it came with a 5 year warranty but blowed if i can find the receipt or remember where it came from, voltmeter in car shows high charge rate from start gradually diminishing to the 13.9v level as the battery reaches full charge.
  • main dealers -by the book? 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Because of my in-the-sticks location, I do most buying by main dealer with manufacturers or approved used warranty & buy on the dog, sight unseen - slightly risky , but minimised as much as poss., given my buying context. Anyway, that's the prologue- what question/query/irritation whatever, is this: Why do main dealers expect you to accept offers way less than book (be it CAP, Glass's , Parkers etc, you name it) for the trade-in?
  • New Family Car/SUV advice 28 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Had a 2017 Peugeot 3008 GT Line for over 3 years and while it was ok and lots to like, there were issues with the timing belt and some electrical problems and I think its time to move on. My budget is about £25k max using my car as a trade in.  I think I will probably stick to the SUV style (though I am tempted by some estates like the a6 Avant, E-class estate), but my missus likes the higher up driving position and I need to consider her needs too as well as having 2 kids.
  • Buying a car. Can you help with the 3Ws and H? 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have driven fairly large 4x4s for the past few years. Hard to justify but partly because I use them as 'skip trucks' to carry endless amounts of junk and I like the driving position. Before that I always had Audi (A4s then an A6) or Mercedes (E320) estates. We've recently moved to the city but, having test-driven several, I can't get used to driving something the size of a Golf or smaller.
  • Hi All - What are your views ? 7 May 2005 (Forum)
But, with extremely narrow margins, I can not offer a warranty inclusive & buyers sign the receipt to this effect (basically a trade sale) Sound fair so far ?? A week ago i sold a car i had used myself for 2-3 weeks & it was a very good example, everything worked & it drove lovely. 6 days after the transaction, buyer emails me with a host of problems ranging from the clock not working to a noise coming from the aircon unit.
