Ford Mondeo - Ford mondeo titanium battery drain 11 Oct 2013 (Forum)
About 3 months later car died again and breakdown couldn't start it battery was so dead. Since then it has failed on me half a dozen times. The last time I did a 100 mile run on a thu, drove it short distance to work and back on fri, by 10am sat morning it was dead. Ford and local auto electrician say intermittent drain isn't happening when they have car and say cant find anything wrong. -
Range Rover Vogue - Car Theft / Tracker Issues 28 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Good Evening, Today I had my Range Rover stolen from my drive while the key was in it and the engine was running deicing for a whole 5 minutes. Which with hindsight was stupid!!! During the ensuing panic, I found that the Range Rover may have had a tracker installed at some point. Following a number of calls to tracker they confirmed that it did indeed have a tracker installed. -
Seat Ibiza 2003 - Help with category C car insurance please 15 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I would like to buy it back as it worked well for me. Unfortunately, my car insurance has run out whilst the car has been in the garage. I have tried lots of insurance companies to see if they will insure my car as a category C write off. But no one will give me a quote, without the car having had an MOT and VIC first. -
Suzuki Wagon R+ - very high mileage vs. very low -- which is better? 7 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I've seen it being said that it's best to avoid ultra low mileage cars because they will have been used for short runs from cold starts which, as I understand it, can spell trouble. Isn't 100,000 miles, though, a bit high given that Wagon Rs are mostly used as urban runarounds? Another worry is that the high-mileage car has had 4 previous owners, which will affect its value if I decide to sell it on or, say, trade it in for a new S Cross in six month's time. -
2005 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 (9N) - Help with Water Leak 30 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I've noticed water on the bottom of the pollen filter in the passenger footwell. It isn't a lot of water, but it eventually drips onto the carpet and it seems to be running down the outside of the filter housing (the filter was bone dry inside). Tonight I took the glovebox out and the heater blower motor so I could see behind. Everything was bone dry and dusty - no traces of water at all, thought it might have been coming in via the air inlet and working its way through the heater. -
Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible - ECU, fault code p0505 astra coupe 17 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Hi I wondered if anybody has any suggestions regarding the above fault p0505 (idle control voltage high) have had this problem for a while .I have changed the throttle bodies twice and had the values adapted to the ecu but the fault still remained, next course of action was to have the ecu sent away for test was told fault on 5volt side authorised repair .On refitting the ecu I decided to put a code reader on before starting the engine so that all was lit was the dash lights the ecu still had p0505 fault still present which I found odd after the ecu was supposed to have been fixed and tested and also I would have thoght the engine had to be running to trigger the code.I reset the light and tried starting the car and it ran ok for about 5 minutes and then put the light on.Are these simtec 70 ecu worth repairing or would it be best to replace it with a new one . -
Ford Focus - How to Test a Faulty Coil Pack on a Ford Focus 17 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I own a Ford Focus Ghia (Y reg), and yesterday went to pull onto a roundabout and it started driving like a bag of nails. Feels like a misfire - low on power, engine not running smooth and a distinct smell of rotten eggs. I've done a bit of reading on the forums, etc, and it sounds like it could be the coil pack(?) I've opened the bonnet and figured out where the coil pack is, and disconnected both ends of the HT leads to see if there is any obvious corrosion or bad connections, all connections look fine to my fairly inexperienced eye. -
LR Defender - Buying Land Rover tomorrow 27 May 2013 (Forum)
I have bought plenty of cars in my time but never a Land Rover, and am aware of their chequered reputation. This one has the ideal spec for what will be required of it, short local runs carrying various logs , kegs of beer and rubbish to the tip, where it won't require booking in and scrutiny as in a van. So far I know it is a Cat d stolen / recovered with 146 k miles on it. -
Skoda Fabia - 02 Fabia Brake Lights & Other Electrics 29 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Car has been running reliably since new, but recently we had have the head off, skimmed & replaced, together with a new coolant tank. Since then there have been two problems: 1) The coolant warning alarm goes off when it is first driven, but not on subsequent trips once warmed up. -

Ford focus 1.6 tdci studio - Mistake buy with DPF? 4 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I wanted to ask a couple of questions: 1) Is the ford focus a good buy for my type of driving or would it end up costing me more in the long run? Would you suggest an alternative? 2) With the potential DPF problems up ahead, am i heading into a trap with the car i'm buying? 3) Is it worth possibly losing the 500 deposit to look at an alternative option? -
Peugot 306 1999 1.9l Estate - Starting Issue 14 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I drove around switching on and off all day without a problem but again this morning, nothing! I am running out of ideas now, especially as the car is not worth a can of baked beans but we can't afford to get rid. Can anyone on the forum shed light as to what to do now. I have a friendly mechanic who has helped so far but he is out of ideas. -
Ford Fiesta Mk4 1999 - Heating Issue 24 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I've also had the heater matrix out and flushed it - no gunk came out and it seemed to be clear inside. After putting it all back together I let the engine run idle for a while with the heat turned to maximum (and no blower). Took the cap off the expansion tank to allow any air out of the system and felt the pipes going into the matrix - both were warm (inlet was the hottest). -
Honda FR-V 1.8 iVTEC Auto - Winter Tyres - User report 19 Jan 2013 (Forum)
The snow on our road was enough to defeat the neighbours FWD Citroen Picasso this morning after the school run. It's currently parked at the bottom. However, the FR-V on winter boots ascended up to our house without any issue whatsoever. That's the first time I've driven winter tyres on a 2WD car on a snowbound road. -
Swap a Lexus rx300 and Polo 1.2 for a family car? 17 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Neither car really work for us, the lexus is to big for the school run and eats petrol, the polo is 3 doors and a nightmare with 2 kids in car seats and I need more space for long distance relative vists at xmas. Question 1, would a dealer take both cars in PX? -
Any - Choosing an estate (probably) for £2000 11 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I do about 750 miles a month in 20 mile chunks for work - half motorway, half country roads, no town driving. Looking for something a bit fun, but not too uneconomical to run. Currently considering: Saab 9-5 - 2.0, 2.3 or HOT (probably not...) or the big diesel Vauxhall Signum - 2.0T, 2.2 direct, or the big diesel (had a vectra 1.9 150 before, would consider but want something a bit more... fun) Volvo V40 1.9 T4 (if I can find one) Mondeo (probably a 2.5 V6) MG ZT-T (again, 1.8T or 2.5 V6) I'm probably borderline on distance/route between a petrol or diesel being more suitable, but as I say I'm looking for a something a bit grumbly or pokey or both, as long as it isn't going to cost the Earth I don't mind spending a bit extra on fuel.
