  • 'Beggars Belief' 8 Mar 2006 (Forum)
"You need to be in control at all times and Miss Maddock's actions beggars belief." Ms Maddock was pictured on police video cameras holding a compact mirror and an eye brush while driving along the A499 in Pwllheli in north Wales. According to the Arrive Alive road safety organisation, based in north Wales, 41 people were injured or killed on the A499 between 2001 and 2003.
  • more police vehicles 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Yes, they were uniformed bobbies and off they went around the roundabout back to patrol the northbound this time..... The camera was a darn sight safer than their interesting manouverings today.
  • This is a Motoring Forum 4 Jul 2004 (Forum)
All forms of motoring, but not anti-motoring. This forum has gone quite far enough down the speed cameras are wonderful and car-type-x is not. So, don't waste hours of your time typing your epic based on how cars are unwanted, to be banned or anything else because then you'll be upset when I delete it.
  • Roads more dangerous now 23 Jan 2022 (Forum)
To cut it short there are less traffic police, breathalyser tests are well down so drinking drivers are escaping, smart motorways can be lethal, many many speed cameras are switched off. Wiltshire for example dosen't have any working. He drove from Lands End to John 'o Groats to gather his evidence. Add to this lots of roads in a bad state of repair and it isn't a pretty picture.
  • Audi A4 - Car Claustophobia 12 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Maybe to comply with new safety regulations but how unpleasant to be a rear seat in passenger in modern  SUVs such as the Toyota CHR and Mazda CX3. Drivers now have to rely on rear view cameras and revering in the dark is a nightmare with the minimal reversing lights. Perhaps something you get used to but how pleasant it is to return to an older car with a high seating position and command post view out.
  • Saab 9-3 Convertible - parking, no ticket, no letters, now debt collector 11 Apr 2021 (Forum)
It's an NCP and I paid by app and I've got the times - of course now I realise they dont use yellow tickets, just cameras BUT the debt collector says it's too late to appeal the ticket I know the odds are against me
  • Detailed car choosing website? 18 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Does anyone know of a website where you can enter what features you would like on a car and it would list the makes and models with those features. I'm talking of things like power folding mirrors, heated seats, reversing camera, heated steering wheel etc. I know that sites like autotrader can give you options of engine size, fuel type and gearbox etc but I am trying to find somewhere that lists all of the features on a car including optional extras and then lists all of the makes and models that have those features?
  • Panorama.... smart motorways 31 Jan 2020 (Forum)
One place with no shoulder was on an elevated section so any breakdown meant you were stuck in your car.  The cameras meant to show broken down vehicles are few and far between so not much warning is forthcoming, altogether a real dangerous mess.
  • GPS, GMP advice 12 Apr 2018 (Forum)
if you watch some of the police reality programs the windscreans are full of electronic equipment on some cars, cameras, GPS and other things. Forthly if I made spelling mistakes please forgive.
  • airport pickups 24 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I have never picked up from Stansted previously so I am a novice and don't want to be either ripped off for parking or fined via a camera for transgressing some spurious marked zone. Does anyone on the forum have the lowdown on how to pick up safely and sensibly from Stansted? Your comments would be appreciated. Cheers Concrete
  • Any - Advice needed please - Italian traffic offence 23 Jan 2013 (Forum)
It appears (although it is not entirely clear), that whilst driving an Italian hire car last August, I drove into an area that was restricted? The description (all in Italian) seems to say that a video camera idetified the car I was driving, because it did not have the relevant permit for that area? Upshot is that they are requesting I pay a "fine" of either approx. €30 or €105 (again not clear).
  • Failing to provide driver identity 3 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I returned the NIP although it was a month late due to illness identifying the driver (someone who was working for me), he is denying being the driver so I was contacted again by the camera office and I have since had several telephone conversations with them as well as providing further written confirmation of the driver's identity. I believe I have met my obligations providing the driver's identity and now I'm being charged with failing to provide information!
  • No front number plate 6 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The famous owner simply pays the £60 fine everytime he's caught - there's no points attached to this offence. It also means he can ignore Gatso average speed cameras.
  • My Fault Insurance Increase 4 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Ok, my fault but I picked up an SP50 in a 50mph section of the M4 (mobile camera van) and my insurance premium with Direct Line has gone up from £570 to just over £800. I currently drive a 58 plate SAAB 9-5 HOT Aero (260bhp) but am thinking of changing to something like a diesel Mondeo, Insignia, Passat etc.
  • Using a phone whilst driving 18 May 2009 (Forum)
My 15 mile route to work involves country roads, a fast dual carriageway and a short stretch of semi-rural with speed cameras, and in every section I see people blatantly using phones. Also see this on motorways. In fact, I find myself scrutinising on-coming vehicles and anyone who overtakes me to see if they're using a phone, and that is obviously (and ironically) distracting me whilst driving!
  • Level crossing near misses - don't run the risk 11 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Film shown from both sides of the crossing . It was quite amazing to see just how close the car was to the front of the train. Allowing for camera angles, etc, I would think that 12 inches was a good bet. The next clip saw a man run across in front of quite a fast train which actually took one of his shoes off....crazy ! Luckiest man of the year award ?
  • 35 in a 30 - consequences? 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Misses, as mentioned on other thread, thinks she got a ticket going by a 30 camera which flashed at her tonight. She is a new driver ( Jan this year ) and is sweating it, ive only told her that now she is on notice license-wise. She says that her speedo was somewhere between 35 and 40 and knowing its rough accuracy, id say she prob went through at about 35-36.
  • BMW Estate police car & speed cam 19 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hello Driving back from work a bmw cop car was parked about 50 yards from a roundabout facing the way i was going - it was on the central reservation of the dual carriageway facing the direction I was travelling in ...............as I approached it at about 35mph ((donwhill )) ((speed limit 30mph))) I noted the red lights flashing - I slowed down & as i passed the polce car te lights were turned off.....it was just the red roof lights. My question - do some own bmw estat cars have a rear facing speed camera? Thanks
  • Overtaking morons 16 Jul 2008 (Forum)
All of them drove down the middle of the road passing everything in sight whilst crossing over double whites lines, overtaking on blind left and right bends and hill brows, what is wrong with these people ? This road has seen numerous deaths occur, it had mobile speed cameras, police patrol cars, gatsos and still the suicide jockeys hammer along and all well in excess of the legal speed limit.
