It would be mighty interesting if BMW is able to come out of this one to not only continue producing Saab vehicles, but using their platforms for their own models and even MINI ones.

Why does anyone need enormous cars just to go to Tesco nowadays? I brought up a family with an original Mini, and as for the car my daughter drives........  2. Life of a car now eight years. Its  the expensive "economy" of DPFs, turbos (now coming to a 1200cc petrol engine at your local dealership)  and all the other electronic gizmos with a short MTBF.

  • Corsa, Clio or Grande Punto advice please ... 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi chaps, I think I've read all the reviews and searched the forums and would like to find someone who has been looking at super minis as well (ideally someone with a lot more knowledge than I have). I'd like to spend no more than £7,500 and started looking at low mileage used but there are a few deals out there on low spec. new models (OK maybe I'd need to spend a little more) ...
  • Car buying advice - kerb appeal for £10k 15 Nov 2006 (Forum)
But with the arrival of our first child this year I am feeling the pressure from the other half to get something bigger. In fact, I refuse to accept the necessity for a mini-bus now we have a child (getting him in and out of the hatchback in his car chair is no problem) but I do concede that we need a bigger boot (particularly if we are going to holiday in this country).
  • Compensation-loss of value 7 Jul 2006 (Forum)
H i can anyone help my daughter bought a BMW Mini Convertable paid £25000 for it had an accident in it where she hit some ice and went into a very deep ditch, despite us getting 2 independant garages to put in writing that it was beyound econmical repair and that my daughter reapetadly phoned the insurance company to say that she did not want the the car repaired because the year before her brother died in a road crash they went ahead and repaired it. it was repaird by a BMW bodyshop,we have tried to sell it ever since but no luck as people can see that it has been repaired it does not show on the HPI list when we did get some one to consider buying it he phoned the bodyshop and they very kindly told him that it been in a major accident and the repair bill came to £16000 insurance company wont pay compensation as they are saying that some where in the small print they wont pay compensation so we are stuck with a car we cannot sell due to it being repaird and not worth any like it should be if it hadent been involved in a accident

  • Postcard from NZ 11 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've not really ever been a fan of Japanese cars, but they get the job done surprising well and don't tax you when driving 100s of Kms. OK, they don't handle anywhere near as well, and some of the roads here are begging for our MINI but we quite like them. Might have a look again when we replace the Clio. I think the main problem we have with them at home is the image, not the product. And.... All the boy racers in New Zealand have a toy that I've not seen at home.
  • Double Standards Officer. 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Rockingham and Santa Pod were suggested as alternative suggestions for speed related malarkey. Strange, then, that a mere seven pages later an article on the new Mini Cooper S is printed, heralding its 135 mph capability and seven second 0 - 60 times. The article went on to say "the important figures I like to quote are the 50 - 75 mph overtake time" and last time we looked, 75 mph was illegal and surely not important at all.
  • BMW 114 - Crankshaft issues? 3 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Searching on this site HJ refers in one Ask HJ response to a known BMW 114.crankshaft issue but a wider Google search doesn't throw up any more info. There are a few references to MINIs - is this the same engine - but nothing I can see specific to BMW 1. Can any backroomer confirm if there is a crankshaft issue with the BMW version or not?
  • Volvo V40 - Best place to sell my car 29 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Hi I live in central London and am gearing up to sell my Volvo V40 D2 SE Nav 62 plate with a variety of option packs (Nav/Winter Illumination/Sports) in the next 3 months - I've recently ordered a company car more suited to London (Mini Auto). There is a small scratch on the front wing and I've kerbed 2 wheels. It has a full Volvo history and has done 55k miles (or will have by the time I sell) but is otherwise flawless. Looking around, I think I have 3 options: webuyanycar Ebay Autotrader Does anyone have any experience of the above methods of selling and which would be the best method.

  • MG - MGs leave Longbridge for dealers 12 Sep 2008 (Forum)
As well as producing cars, it was used as a munitions factory during both world wars and began production of the iconic Mini in 1959. It also produced the popular Metro and Rover 200 models before the Rover company was bought by BMW in 1994. BMW subsequently sold the firm to the Phoenix Consortium, under whom it went into administration in 2005.
  • Tales of repairs on old motors 26 May 2008 (Forum)
I have been prompted to post on the basis of a fascinating description given by John S on how to repair the bracket that holds the engine top stay on an old style Mini, posted in technical. His post was a form of literature that will soon be lost forever. He described a lengthy and complex repair involving relatively cheap parts that these days would not be done, the car would probably just be scrapped.

  • The end of rust? 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I was thinking the other day how DIY body repair work has gone completely from the motoring scene in the past decade or more. I used to spend many hours repairing assorted old Minis, Morris Minors and Mk2 Fiestas to keep the rot at bay. Accessory shops used to make a living selling fibreglass matting, plastic padding and those paint spray cans. Admittedly the results were sometimes mixed and any cars requiring bodywork repairs today would be classics and more likely to go to a proper repair shop using lead filler, new metal panels etc.
