Ford Mondeo - 05 Octavia to 56(07) Mondeo 30 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I currently own a Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi with 112k on it on an 05 Plate. The Octavia is now starting to cost me money with things like the air con compressor failing, airbag lights coming on and other general wear and tear. I suppose its getting to that age now. I have now spotted a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Titanium X with 55k on it, and I am wondering if its worth buying. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.6 Lumpy running then EML. 8 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Started engine, again running not quite right. Alternator output 20A falling to 15A after 5 minutes, voltage 14.5V. Switched Air con on, fan running, alternator output 43A. Noticed that the EML was now illuminated. I've booked car into dealer for Monday. Any advice on this problem and what I should be asking dealer to look for in the way of fault codes, would be appreciated. -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2.0 Car not starting 7 Aug 2009 (Forum)
When I got there with the car running he tested the battery with the meter and it read 14.5V, even after turning on air-con and headlights. Turned off the car to show him the problem but it started first time! All of a sudden the problem seemed to have gone. I have left the car with him to see if the same thing happens this morning. -
Perodua MYVI (2006 - ) - Should I? 1 May 2009 (Forum)
I had a drive in a new Perodua Myvi which a local dealer is selling for just £5999 o.t.r. Brand new. 3 years 60k warranty air con etc. All I really need in a car. Drove ok I am not really interested in how fast a car goes around a corner, it rode well, better than the Jazz, seemed well built, no rattles or squeeks. Loads of room for me and her indoors when she's out of doors! -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.8 Serious engine problems 21 Apr 2009 (Forum)
EML initially went out, now flashing/illuminated constantly, smoking heavily, temperature gauge permanently on cold; ? Oil clean, no signs of mayonnaise, heater and air con working correctly at all temperatures ? Spoke to previous owner (not seller), valve leak on cylinder 1 apparently diagnosed but no oil residue on plug; advised that plugs were apparently changed shortly before car was traded in. -
Polar opposites. Can you beat this? 29 May 2008 (Forum)
They offered me, for the same price, a spanking new Prius which I gratefully accepted. Percy, as I named him, was brilliant. 900 odd miles in total comfort. Great air con (outside temps in the mini heatwave reaching 100f)decent stereo and such fun watching the wheels go round on the on-screen display. And averaged 49mpg which included spirited driving on Freeways, and up/down mountains! -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Estate options for 5k 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Obvious choice (to me) is a Focus estate- never driven one, but appeals because: 1. supposedly great drive (ie. better than equivalent Astra) 2. choice (again, seems to be better than Astras) - don't want to take too long waiting for the right vehicle 3. running costs, although lower than average mileage so don't need a diesel (but would be happy to have a TDCi) 4. highly recommended in the Car-by car breakdown IIRC 1.6 is supposed to be the sweetest unit and performance would be adequate, but wouldn't say no to the 1.8 or 2.0; the extra fuel/insurance isn't a major issue. Must have air con. Do the Zetecs have sportier suspension than the others, or is it just cosmetic? I'm reasonably happy I've made the right choice (ok, it might be an idea to drive one first), but any advice would be appreciated. -
Renault Aircon problem 28 Apr 2007 (Forum)
You know the good weather's here once more when the rash of air con problems surface! Guilty as charged, m'lud. We own a Renault Megan Scenic 1997, and have had it since birth. I have just noticed that the aircon is not coming on. It looks like (when Ifind it!) -

clutch, bushes, wind noise Vectra C ? coil packs, oil burning, flat spots, turbo lag, smoking, clutch A4 ? brake pipes, air con, cost to fix C Class ? rust, glow plugs on diesels, wiring looms on pre early 96 models. I?m open to petrol or diesel, have I just read too much and should accept that no car is far from perfect, on that basis should I stick with ? -
buying new; main dealer or broker? 9 May 2006 (Forum)
btw I didn't want a Renault but Vauxhall seem to be making buying a new Vivaro as difficult as possible with currently a 2 month wait for factory orders whereas apparently Renaults Trafics are sitting at the docks with electric packs and air con almost thrown in with the price. Any views? -
Renault Laguna 2 Dynamique estate 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Whilst high miles it is in excellent condition with metallic paint and has a full set of extras including sat nav, air con, keyless entry and igntion and lots of other toys. It seemed like a reasonable deal to me, and with the Audi knocking on to 130k trouble free (so far) miles I thought it might be time to move on. -
VW Golf Cambelt problems 20 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I've never done a cambelt change before but I thought I'd give it a go on my 1994 MK3 Golf Driver (1.8 8V SPI petrol, code ABS, power steering, no air con). However..... Actually everything went well except for the first time I think I got the intermediate shaft one tooth out so it ran badly. I re-did the job and engine ran fine, except for a 'whirring' noise. -
Oil Leak - Rover 220 Turbo (T-Series) 24 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Degreased engine/box as best I could on the weekend - got the bottom pretty clean but access to the top is terrible (rigid air con pipes in the way). Did my best anyway. Made sure the area around the block/head join just below the distributor was clean and dry. Ran for a bit and there was plenty of oil runing off the gearbox. -
What should I do? 15 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Oh, and is anyone interested in an 02 reg Fiesta Ghia 5dr? It\'s got too much to list, but here\'s some of my favourite bits: Air Con Leccy windows Remote deadlocks and alarm Heated screens and heated power mirrors. CD Player. Just been main dealer serviced and done 10K. I\'m looking for about £6,500ish on a private sale. Blue -
Which affordable diesel family car? 30 May 2003 (Forum)
I'm thinking of replacing my 1.6 P Reg Astra (petrol) with a nearly new Mondeo sized car (diesel) to take into account a) 1 small son and all that comes with it! b) 25k miles private miles per year c) comfy driving position and d) with air con, ABS and cruise control. I'm not in the luxury car market, so any BWM/Merc/Saab/Volvo recommendations are (sadly) not an option - are they? I guess I'd be looking around the 10k mark (including part-ex) and would need some kind of finance (e.g. personal loan at around 6%). -
Auction 12 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I often take friends and clients to auctions and do not wish to be treated as a naughty school boy when checking to see if the air con works on a prospective purchase! -
renault espace mk 3 2.2dci - clutch problem 21 Jun 2020 (Forum)
This job is quick and easy.... apart fron the rubber bung because if you get giddy poking it in with a scewdriver you could rupture an air con pipe attached to the bulkhead (renault technicians have done this, I didnt but I did have to take the dash out again to do it better!!) Yes... I swore a little bit but you dont learn if you dont do it wrong :0) -
Which car? 3 Apr 2024 (Forum)
So I am now after a 5 door hatchback (petrol) with a few extras like the entertainment/sat nav display, air-con, proper boot (not a half boot) parking sensors. Car sales men see me coming and make buying a car quite scarey and although I've been told to steer clear of cars with wet belts i thought i'd come on here for some friendly advise or recommendations.
