  • Honda Tracking problem 13 Oct 2004 (Forum)
He cannot get the steering wheel to set straight ahead when the vehicle is going straight. I took the vehicle in because of excessive wear in the o/s front inside of tyre. Perhaps I should go to the Honda dealer I know which charges reasonable rates. They have a set procedure which I'm sure the fast fits don't follow. Any knowledgeable advice welcome.
  • Fitting a Radio on a Renault Laguna 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)
advise from halfords, and they have told me that if I want to keep the control and display, then only Sony will allow me to do that (which is fair enough because that?s what I will be buying anyway) but I will have to purchase a cable of them for a extra £50!!!!!!, yes £50, and then fitting on top of that, so I want to do it all my self. I was wondering, if anyone can tell me where on the net, they could recommend buying a cable from.
  • Another thread on polish 12 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Not to hi-jack daisy1's thread, here's a polish related phenomenon. I've used Turtle Wax since the dawn of recorded time, it always seemed good enough to me and the right price. However, here's something odd on which maybe the buffs (no pun) out there can throw some light.
  • Golf Mk2 GTi battery discharging itself 6 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The interior lights are all switched off so I am stumped with this intermittent fault... Any ideas please? Are there any common problems with Golf Mk2's that can cause this?? Thanks P.S. What is the X-relay on the Haynes manual circuit diagram?
  • Vectra 2.2 petrol stalling... 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Last time, the garage re-programmed the ECU, changed the ECU, re-set the throttle assembly up, cleaned the throttle assembly, etc. on numerous visits (5) last summer and the problem seemed to be cured until this week when it\'s started happening again every morning. Has anybody else had this problem with their 2.2, or know of any possible solution? Unlike last summer, the car is now out of its warranty. Many thanks in advance.
  • Value Please 10 Jun 2004 (Forum)
To cut a long story short, I need to sell my Fiesta should I get a new car and I want some thoughts as to roughly how much the value will be. The car itself is a 1996 Mark 4 Fiesta Ghia 5dr 1.25 Zetec-S. It has around 84,000 miles on it and all the usuals you'd expect from a Ghia such as electric windows, temperature display, rev counter, c/l sunroof etc etc.. The car was an automatic but then a very good engineer friend converted it to manual and it's been fine.
  • Robert Fulton's Obituary 19 May 2004 (Forum)
Last Friday?s Telegraph had an obituary for Robert Fulton, reputed to be the first to go around the world on a motorbike about 1937. It seems that he made a rash remark about doing so at a dinner. The rest of the table picked up on it, and he had to fulfil.
  • Almera 1.8SE Fuel Gauge, 00MY 4 May 2004 (Forum)
A couple of weeks ago I filled it and the needle held off the full mark by about 1/8th of a tank full, and stayed there for a least 50 miles (about right) before it would start to drop. Now the empty light comes on at 350 miles (I know historically I will get 400 miles) and it?s bugging me. Is the sender up the creak? If so any ideas how much? Or could it be a bad connection? It's still only done 23K mile BTW, and my warrantee won't cover it , at least I think so but I have not checked.
  • More PSA climate glitches. Cit Synergie 13 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The wiring from the sensor in the door mirror looks in good nick but I haven\'t yet taken off the door trim to see if any other plugs are hidden behind it. What\'s next, good folk? Buy/fit an ambient temperature sensor? Let the dealer have a look? Let an independent have a look? Hawkeye ----------------------------- Stranger in a strange land
  • Why can't I sell my car? 25 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I got my new Fiesta back in September/October and ever since I have been trying to sell my old car. The car is an X reg Nissan Micra S in Silver. I am advertising it at near enough book price - £3400. The car has only done 23,000 miles and is in near perfect condition. I have spent close to £250 on Autotrader adverts and another £50 on an MOT to help it sell.
  • Vehicle History Checks 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I'm getting a new (S reg) Corolla and was going to do an HPI check on it. Then I realised I couldn't find where I'd written the VIN number down. When we rang the dealer about it, he said he'd fax us the check he did with HPI.com (or co.uk).
  • Question to Passat owners about... 2 Nov 2003 (Forum)
A friend drives a 3.0 Omega and gets about 20mpg around town, so I'm not a whole lot better off than him. S.
  • Law on rejecting a used car - help! 17 Aug 2003 (Forum)
She bought a Y reg, 14000 mile Punto 1.2 base model at deleted . There are two major flaws. First, a mate tells me that her boyfriend\'s dad works there and is convinced they don\'t service the cars (I checked - thick black oil on the dipstick.) Second, she was charged just under £6000 AFTER trading in her P reg Rover 111. Granted, the 111 was neglected.
  • VW Golf high pitch noise, brake seizure? 15 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Do I just remove the calipers and brush off all the brake dust? Do I fit new \"retaining springs\"? The pad thicknesses are well above the min. If it\'s not the calipers could it be a warped disc? Thanks Andrew
  • More third-world fun ... 21 May 2003 (Forum)
It was discovered after a schoolboy was injured during a rugby match and there were no ambulances to take him to hospital. A member of the school?s governing body spotted the ambulances outside a hospital where about eight people with luggage, one carrying firewood, got out of one of the vehicles. The passengers did not respond when asked if they were all patients.
  • Oil filters 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
When I mentioned this tapping to the VW garage, they said that it is probably one or more of the hydraulic valves not holding its pressure, not an uncommon problem on higher mileage VW\'s apparently. I was due to book it in for some new valves and the garage spotted the non-VW filter and suggested I change it. Well I did and the tapping has gone away. I think there are two interesting outcomes from this story: Firstly I have a very honest local garage.
  • Premature belt failure 4 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Is anyone aware of common cases of belt failure on Audi 2.4 V6's? I have a 4 year old 54k model A6 which started with a knocking noise at idle. Ran it to a local independent garage today who advised I leave it there and not drive any further so they can check it out - suspected timing belt problems.
  • Romantic names from the past 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
On the other hand some names are so offputting I wonder anybody ever buys the car : Robin Fiesta (sounds like a contraceptive) De Dion rear axle (something on the London to Brighton run?) Gunk (clever name for a down to earth product) Ka Remember J Bonnington-Jagworth?s Boggs Super Oaf? Does anybody else notice names like this?
  • Fiat Sicilian factory and sell off 8 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Not totally sure how that is defined as of course none of today's cars were actually being made in the 1970's, but shows how desperate the company is. Market share in Italy has dropped to 30% in a country where people traditionally buy locally built vehicles. Question: Does the Backroom think FIAT can survive?
  • Volvo 360 GLE MOT problem 5 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Anybody have any idea of how much it'll cost to have new sills put on and if they know anybody in the Glasgow area who is good and cheap. Thanks for your help Andy Sorry, I forgot to say that the n/s jacking point has collapsed slightly as well, and that worried the MOT tester as well as a cracked number plate and the wrong bulbs in the back lights
