Golf gt tdi 02 - Leaking coolant 22 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Ok have a golf that's leaking coolant, had cambelt replaced as 20k done since last, and then put in a new water pump and cap When I say leaking it isn't noticeable I can't see any water and it is a tiny amount, it falls just below the minimum every week or so Cambelt was replaced 3weeks ago and it flashed up today check coolant for the first time in 3 weeks where it needed a small top up Obviously this is a sign of gasket but there is nothing to suggest it is this, no milky oil etc I was advised by the garage that it could be the coolant tank? Is this a possibility? They also said that with new antifreeze running through if it was the gasket then it would happen a lot quicker...well 3weeks isn't quick IMO Am at a complete loss, ideally if it isn't the gasket I dont want to be paying to have it done if it doesn't solve my problem The car isn't prone to gaskets going so am praying it is something else Any help, tips, advice would be very gratefully received is there a test that the garage can do to see if it is head gasket? -
Pavement parking and threatening behaviour! 18 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Rather scary incident on the school run today. A car with a blue disabled badge was parked with 2 wheels on the pavement right outside school in the restricted area and as I squeezed past on foot I clipped the wing mirror. As I approached my house just a 100 yards around the corner the car drove up and the driver, a gentleman in his late 50's, got out shouting abuse and pushing me for bashing into his car. -

Ford Fiesta - Buying a Second Hand Diesel Car - Few Questions! 5 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Theres an 06 reg one on there I have seen that has about 130,000 miles on the clock and an 03 reg one that only has about 80,000. I have never owned a diesel before and want one due to the low running costs as I do around 14,000 miles per year and the road tax is cheap. So what do you guys think is best? Many thanks! -
audi A6 idle juddering 20 Jun 2012 (Forum)
need advice on my A6 2.4 auto 1997 . about 2 months ago it had to taken to a audi dealer as it would not start after left unused for 2 weeks.not battery problem.the dealer said there was fuel flooding and changed all sparks and add fuel treatment. start ok since but had trouble with the engine juddering at idle espescially when climate control on and using the brakes. brought it back to dealer and they changed a faulty spark lead. some improvment but still not completely gone. third time they diagnosed a faulty valve timer and changed it at total of £370!!!and guess what ? yup ! made absolutely no difference. interestingly whenthe engine is cold it runs smooth but starts after driving a few minutes and also after awhile some noticeable judder when accelerating as well though not as bad as idle .any idea before it has to go back to that dealer ...i amfast losing faith and money..incidently as they repalced a nonfaulty component are they obliged to omit the charge for further work? -
VW Golf 1.9 SDI E (V Reg, 99) - Should I sell my broken car to my mechanic? 18 Jun 2012 (Forum)
One of his employees at the garage is however intrested in buying the car from me and fixing it. The car has done 160k miles and is running, just did a 300 mile round trip last weekend but dosn't sound good. It also burnt off 5l of oil on that trip so I have no doubt there is a major problem. So whats everyones thoughts, whats it worth in this condition? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2.0 HDi fuel problem? 25 May 2012 (Forum)
I suspect it is either an ECU problem or something to do with the fuel supply? When it does do it and I switch off the engine appears to run on for a few seconds, could this be a clue? Also last night it now stalls when I take my foot off the gas whilst driving, could be related? Does anyone have any idea whats going on with this car>? -
mercedes - BMW X5 Synergy Manchester 21 May 2012 (Forum)
I received an official order form and I now find the company is in Liquidation. According to Insolvency this company is not in Liquidation, it is run by a guy called ABDUAL QUDDAS and he has not made himself bankrupt it is all a SCAM. Insolvency say they cannot do anything. I have told Consumer Direct, they weren't particularly helpful. You cannot speak to Trading Standards as you have to go through Consumer Direct. -
Fuel savings 4 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Now, forgetting the safety aspect, if there is one, coasting up to a stop, be it a red light, junction, crossing atc, my revs obviously drop to tick-over ie app. 900rpm Staying in gear with the car now in over-run, the revs obviously read 1500, 2000 etc. Now I know I have read somewhere (some time ago) that coasting in the scenario now being discussed, was more benificial for saving fuel. I tend to agree with that. -
S-Max v VW Passat 3 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I like the look of the S-Max and think it's the more practical of the two but I'm afraid I have never liked the Ford brand but equally, I am prepared to take the risk. The running costs does worry me though. The Passat is in the lead at the moment especially as VW appear to have rectified earlier problems, and do have a better build quality. But would I be limilited with the space, although the boot is HUGE. -
Ford Focus 2004 - Temp gauge issue !!! 8 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Ok, so just bought my focus and noticed slight coolant leak, turned out to be thermostat housing, new coolant, new housing all sorted. Car starts and runs fine temperature gauge moves up to correct central position then whilst driving it drops back down to cold, few minutes later back up to the centre ?? It doesnt overheat or affect driving at all so i figured maybe its the coolant temperature sensor which is dodgy, so i asked my mechanic to test it and fit a new one if needed, only for him to tell me that there isnt one ??? -

Fiat Punto 1.2 - How Important is it to fit the right head gasket ? 21 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I would really appreciate any advice, had a head gasket done and car still playing up, over heated 5 weeks after having it done with car making horrendous knocking sounds and smoke coming from drivers side front binnet, took it back, mechanic said the fan had gone, replaced that, didnt resolve it, then said it was water pump, didnt resolve it, then said radiator had blockage, didnt resolve it, had diagnostics run and the temp sensor is faulty. Whilst looking through reciept, I decided to check the head gasket part number and it seems that the head gasket purchased was for upto a 2003 punto. Mines a 54 plate, and the difference in shape is obviously noticeable, also it is a different material, the supplier has specified it is important to select right head gasket, but mechanics saying its not important as long as the holes are in the same place, I am really concerned about this and would like somebody to advise me about the importance of the right head gasket part. -
Any - Cold weather driving 17 Jan 2012 (Forum)
No scraping, spraying aerosols, idling for ages with the fan blowing cold air all over the place. And it is free. Running the usual grille block, and 2/3 neat antifreeze to 1/3 water to hasten engine warm up. Scrapped the oil filter warmer because it was too much hassle. Switched to 5W-40 oil instead of the specified 10W-30 which probably has the same effect anyway. -
Newbie, please be gentle with me! 11 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I tend to agree with your general scepticism about modern diesels, if the all round cost is taken into account, I'm not sure they're any cheaper to run than a petrol equivalent, people need to look beyond the mpg figure and maybe include the potential dpf,dmf or turbo replacement cost, just to give themselves a few sleepless nights. The recent post by sirionman was very interesting, I must agree with him that owning an asian car is in my opinion a good choice. -
Chevrolet Cruze - Time to change the trusty Mondeo... 10 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I've still got the trusty X-Reg (one of the first Mk 3's) Petrol Mondeo, it's done 77,000 miles now and still starts and runs no problem, had a few electrical issues recently (Automatic Windows, central locking and now the boot opening!) I also don't like the Tax band much these days. Now then onto what to replace her with.... -
Renault Clio III - starting problems and strong petrol exhaust smell 15 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I can sometimes get the car to start but most times i just hear the starter motor or even just a click sound. Also the car doesnt run in neutral as smoothly as it did , the revs increasing and decreasing and with more vibrations than normal. . The car was serviced at renault 2 months ago (400 quid!!!!) but every time i take it there, it seems to experience more problems, You would not believe the number of problems we have had with this car in just 4 years! -
Mitsubishi Grandis 2.4 petrol CVT - Ceramic brake pads - noisy? 6 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Is there an easy way to check if the disks are scored? They don't look pitted, but can one tell by running a finger across the surface? Or is it less evident when they become damaged? And if they are damaged, is it a big job to get them skimmed? Lots of questions, thanks for any help you might have.
