  • X Type 2.0d 2005 - Help 16 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The Injectors were tested. 2&3 leaking but not replaced. The starting problem had gone away after the ECR was done, but smooth running hadn't. Most of the time it's flying but then I can tell that it's not running at optimum. Just as I was rebuilding confidence that I could drive again without losing power i'm right back to square one.
  • Rover 420GSi - Rover 420 - 'rough' running 15 May 2011 (Forum)
Only solution in town or slow-moving traffic seems to be to run at higher revs and in lower gear than normal, and accelerate very slowly. Car seems to idle OK when stationary - just the usual noises for its age. Any ideas as to possible area of problem please before I have to take it to garage for investigation???
  • Advice on a cheap to run commute car 31 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Hello This is my first post on the forum and I was wondering if there was any consensus as to a  cheap to run, comfortable commute car that would be happy with 70 miles per day. Now I've had a look through the FAQ, ran a search on similar posts and not actually come up with anything that was terribly helpful.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0 Running problems 17 Jan 2010 (Forum)
About 3 months ago it stalled and would not start up again, eventually when I got it started it would only rev to 2000rpm then smoke like hell and it then cut out and would not start again. I thought maybe I had just ran it out of fuel so I filled it with fuel and it started but still running rough and would not rev. I changed the fuel filter, it took a bit to start but it ran like new until a couple of days ago when it started playing up again even when full of fuel. It starts first time and runs ok when cold but as soon as it gets warm it won?
  • Ford StreetKa (2003 - ) - 04 1.6 Running hot ?? 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi guys, 2 weeks ago my wife bought a 2004 ford streetka winter edition, since then it has had a few problems and needed a new thermostat, heater control valve and O2 sensor, however the car still seems to be running hot. By that i mean from a cold start she is able to use the heater on full heat within a minute, the engine is getting hot really fast and the electric fan is cutting in and out after only a 15 minute run and waiting at traffic lights, also when she gets home and turns the car off you can hear gurgling and bubbling from the water pipes around the engine which doesnt seem to be getting any better ( thought this system should self bleed ?
  • "Stupid car" it`s run down the hill on it`s own. 26 Jun 2009 (Forum)
So, given that it`s now becoming normal for cars to run away on hills when the brakes fail to hold - that seems to put more responsibility on car makers. So what`s the solution? How about a `sprag` that locks pins into the drums or discs on application of the handbrake - thereby removing the pressure/friction element out of handbrakes holding.
  • Rover Metro (1990 - 1995) - 1994? 1.1k series - rough running after HG change. 17 Jan 2008 (Forum)

  • Ford Escort (1983 - 1990) - HCS 01/89 engine temp over warm after 'stat change 24 Dec 2007 (Forum)
November 2007 - car has, for a while (maybe years?) been slow at heating up, so I purchased a new thermostat, 92 degrees, from Ford. Now it runs about 3/4 up either on or just about the 'N' of 'NORM'. Now I can't decide if it's been running cold with a dodgy stat since replacing the sender with the wrong colour 5 years ago been running with the right sender which has deteriorated at the same rate as the stat over 5 years got the right sender running fine with a dodgy thermostat.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 52 reg TDCi - Warning Light Problem! 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I have a 52 TDCi and the coil warning light comes on intermitently - flashing constantly (no breaks in between) and the beast goes into limp-home mode - but when I take it to the dealer and they run the diagnostic, say theres nothing wrong and it just needs a "reboot" - its fine for a couple of months and then it happens again! Its driving me mad as its costing to run the diagnostic every time - so surely there must be something wrong with it - I've had it 2 years and its happened about 6 times - but this time its happened twice in 2 weeks and Im running out of patience.
  • to LPG or find a diesel to run Veg oil? 28 May 2007 (Forum)
I can either LPG it, or now find myself a cheap diesel (sub 1k) with a bosch pump (i.e. 306, 106 etc...) and run a 50/50 mix or even look into waste cooking oil as my dad runs a restaurant anyway (i know oil needs to be treated before going into the tank). If I choose the diesel option, I would like minimal conversion, single tank only..
  • Punto cooling/running problem 30 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The local breaker supplied a replacement head complete with manifolds, sensors, ignition packs & camshaft. A new gasket & I?d be OK?or so I thought! I have 2 symptoms: It runs, but seems too rich?on the verge of hunting. Also the engine gets hot after barely 5 mins running (the overtemp warning light comes on). I?ve checked for poor connections, leaking vacuum pipes and changed the coolant thermistor for my original one.
  • 96 Rover 420SLDI Running problem 5 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My problem is this, when you are accelerating it suddenly dies,as if you have turned the ignition off,it can be in any gear,if I take my foot off the accelerator and put it back on the power comes back, when it does it if you press the pedal down further it just keeps dieing until you raise the pedal and depress it again then it runs fine again. It ticks over fine. I have found it tends to do it around 1800 RPM onwards,if you raise the revs to around 3000-3500RPM you can feel the engine labouring,if you open the throttle quick there is less chance of it doing it.I have replaced the MAF sensor which helped with the general performance of the car but the fault is still there,I have also changed the fuel filter, the Throttle position sensor, the EGR valve and checked the air cleaner,I have visually checked the pipes to the turbo and made sure the wastegate isn't sticking.Has anyone got any thoughts on this as it is annoying. When it is running fine, which is most of the time it is great, returning 52MPG.
  • Nissan Auto Gearbox - jerky changes 10 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I am convinced it is a conventional auto as it changes in much the same way as previous autos I have run and is not at all 'seamless' as a Jazz CVT which I also run. Needless to say, the dealer doesn't know what it is! The sales literature make no mention of CVT wheres the new Murano is very definately marketed as a CVT.
  • Bad diesel???? 24 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Any other ideas please, I am getting nearer to the point of scrapping it but mechanically it seems only just run in at 125K. -- pmh (was peter)
  • Micra running rich 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I've had a look around and apparently the throttle bodies are a chronic failure point on these and cost about £200 for a recon replacement, but the symptoms seem to be misfiring and uneven idling - this car seems to run reasonably smoothly and the fuel consumption is still >40mpg. Any thoughts on any other checks I could make or anything I might have overlooked?
  • Citroen ZX 1.4 - Running temperature?? 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
It is a 1997 1.4i, and after stopping the car it showed no sign of over heating or hot smells. Any idea what the normal running temp is on these. If it runs this hot when the ambient temp is 0 degrees C, what will it be like in summer. I haven't as yet taken the thermostate out to check its operation, but I do know the radiator not blocked.
  • vw polo cutting out 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
hi all thanks in advance for your help i have a 1993 L reg polo fox coupe 1.05 litre this occasionally dies in mid traffic with no warning (usually lifting the foot off the throttle or going down the gears (4 speed) from 30 to 70mph. more so after a run of 10 miles or more when things are hot, and possibly more on wet days..sometimes it will run for hundreds of miles without a hiccup performance is not special but seems to run smoothly enough when starting and running the hall effect unit on the end of the cam has been replaced complete with rotor cap etc , new plugs fitted coolant and antifreeze all changed in last 20k service and oil change carried out at 95K new air filter etc (2 months ago) new plugs, have checked under the bonnet for loose connections and sprayed cleaned fuse box passenger side. cleaned and sprayed all the plug together connections accesible. it has been suggested to me it might be a fuel filter problem or fuel pump however i dont know where the fuel filter is as i cant see one directly attachted to the single point injection mechanism under the air filter housing. i dont know if the fuel filter has ever been replaced , certainly not by me in 10K miles. can anyone help or throw some ideas?
  • Toyota Verso - Injectors replaced - car now won't run 14 Sep 2019 (Forum)
9 yo Toyota 2.0D, 120k miles. Always professionally serviced to schedule and faultless running until earlier this year. Back in April we had a fault code P062D come up relating to injectors. Our garage cleared the code (and the car appeared to run OK) and suggested we contact a local injector specialist.
  • Sorry, it's a 'what car should I get' post! 1 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Car will probably be used for weekly shopping trips, occasional runs across the city, fortnightly runs to the countryside and a longer trip with motorway driving about every other month. Saved up 4k (to include insurance, parking permit, car seats etc) so we have about 3k to spend on a car (test drove a nissan note the other day as an example).
  • SEAT Leon (1999 - 2005) - Rough running at lower revs, warning light 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I noticed that intermittently, the harsh running sound seemed to suddenly disappear and asked des. driver (aka wife) to vary engine speeds and gears. The engine appears to run suddenly normally at various rpm in various gears. In first gear it?
