  • Ford Galaxy - Air Con failure on Ford Galaxy Ghia - error codes 20 Apr 2013 (Forum)
While flashing, what I presime is an error code of 88 is displayed in several places. The air con seems to have stopped working although the blowers etc work. I am in France and the language problems will make it difficult to discuss with a French garage. Does anyone know how I can find out if this is an error code and what it means?
  • VW Golf Mk1V TDI - Steering judder 27 Aug 2011 (Forum)
My Golf suffers from steering judder at Motorway speeds above 70 mph.  (I live in France so its legal) If I take my foot off the accelerator it goes away but the moment I put my put back on the pwer it starts up again. I have renewd front pads/disks. New tyres. switched back wheels to front.
  • 13 pin electrics Golf Mk6 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Although I see a lot of cars with bike racks without light boards, I don't want to risk a tug in bandit country (Essex) or in France where "Les Ros'bifs" may be considered fair game for "Le Plerd" Cheers
  • 'Born to run' at 125 mph 29 Apr 2008 (Forum)
s hit Born to Run was playing when cops stopped the Renault Clio in the fast lane near Tours, western France. An officer said: "He said he had a long drive to Paris and was bored." The motorist was bailed, to face a possible £500 (or maybe euro?) fine and year?s ban. www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1101170.ece (Not clickable because of other content) http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gbs8TTzR10KmkvgtSLkHnbOQsOWQ
  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 06 1.9 CDs jammed in the CD player 23 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I suggested he looked for a little hole by the player to stick in a paperclip end, and manually release the CDs, but has anyone got any better ideas? The car is in France so I can´t get a look at the unit. TiA, Barchettaman
  • Who looks better on a motorcycle? 12 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Watched the Tour de France on Sunday in London. There were a lot of French Gendarmes on motor cycles as well as London cops. Without going all "oooh Maureen" and all, I thought the Gendarmes would win any "je ne sais quoi" competition with their tight strides, knee high boots and blue shirts versus hi vis yellow jackets.
  • Azure idling on a grey Monday 22 May 2007 (Forum)
And it's left-hand drive - the Bentley, I mean - but that's OK because it'll be spending most of its life in the south of France anyway. What's that, Nurse? Medicine time already?
  • Insurance - including european use 8 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi, My insurance is due shortly and as we are expecting to spend a reasonable amount of time in France this year (about 5 trips of 7-10days or £100 worth at the rate my current insurer charges for foreugn cover) I am interested in which companies provide full european cover - not just green card 3pft stuff - at reasonable rates or included in their standard policy.
  • Tescos Synthetic Oil 26 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I have always thought UK supermarkets are way behind French hypermarkets that seem to sell a vast array of their own and other oils so cheaply. Any decent competition would help lower prices, on a product that seems so cheap in France and the USA.
  • Fulda Carat Extremo - anyone have them? 30 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Dad needs a new set of tyres for his Fabia vRS. His local tyre guy (in SW France) is quoting him ?150 a corner for Michelins. On Pneus24 they are offering Fulda Carat Extremo for ?78.20 delivered a corner - 49% off their RRP. Does anyone (tyreexpert....) have any experiences of this brand/model, as it´s not one I´ve used before.
  • Renault Scenic-yes or no? 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Lives in London, parking on the street. Will be their only car, so won't just be a runaround. Far from it-will be going to South Of France for hols most years & plenty of weekends away. I've read the HJ car by car breakdown-seems reasonable idea. But before she commits I wondered if any of you have any thoughts? Thank you all. -- http://www.bayingbasset.com

  • Renault Scenic Trip Computer Question. 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I thought I would ask on the forum before I attempt to ask the garage in my ?school boy? French. I live in France so hence the left-hand drive requirement. Many thanks, Will.
  • vw mk3 golf petrol 'thinking time' 14 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hiya. I'd like to address an annoyance in the above car, which showed up during tour of France some while ago. Essentially it seems to need thinking time between pressing the accelerator for a swift overtake & actually doing it. What I was hoping is there a nice quick & cheap fix for this? A known issue?
  • Lease or Buy? 15 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am either too lazy to do the math, or ignorant of the pitfalls, but am I missing a trick by buying my car, letting it depreciate then stump up more cash for another one? I only do about 6K miles per annum and that includes a couple of thousand on summer hols in France. I like a nice comfy and fairly rapid family job, nothing cheap and cheerful. Has anyone out there been energetic enough to do the math and have enough of a Tefal head to know the pitfalls or gains?
  • Renault and the cold 7 Mar 2005 (Forum)
We're off to central France for Easter. They are having a very cold snap at the moment, -20c up in the hills I was told yesterday. We will be going in our Megane but should I have anything done to it to prepare it for a rather unpleasant experience.
  • long term storage? 25 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My Dad is on about getting a cheap run-around to leave at his place in France. Thing is though the car would be stood still in the barn for up to 6 months at times over the winter, and I don't think this is particulaly healthy for any car, if indeed it will start at all. He seems to think modern cars can take it in their stride.
  • are hard tyres quiet? 16 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Here in France our local tyre place (Speedy)has a special offer on its own brand of tyres that are made for it by Continental. They say that they will guarantee them for 5 years or 40,000kms which suggests they are very hard wearing - does that mean they will be noisy.
  • Quality & comfort of ride 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Unfortunately all those I have tried so date, like the Jazz (the new one), Yaris, Mercedes 160,& 220 and the small Skoda all ride like bricks. The cars from France seem to be better sprung but I am not over fond of Renault. So far I have not tried those from the Rover group! Does any one have experience of a modern car that can soak up the pot-holes, is quite both inside and out and provides at least two comfortable seats?
