  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 20-6-2015 20 Jun 2015 (News)
The change is to move licence endorsements from paper to a central computer, accessible by insurers, but they have messed this up. More here: /faq/driving-licence-endorsements-how-can-these-be-checked-once-the-paper-counterpart-is-abolished-1/  I would definitely make the change.
  • Stars shine on London to Brighton run 3 Nov 2014 (News)
. ‘Obviously I don’t get the chance to actually drive the car in most of the automotive work that I’m involved in so that was a nice change. The mixed weather provided an extra challenge and edge but one that we enjoyed very much. ‘We had a broken oil pipe just as we got to Crawley and the RAC Motoring Services volunteer patrolmen did a sterling job.
  • Scrappage in the USA 31 Jul 2009 (News)
It doesn't make sense to compete with buyers coming into the showroom with a $4,500 voucher from the government. It's not the same playing field, so don't short-change yourself.

  • Lord Mandleson Backs British Motor Industry With Words 25 Nov 2009 (News)
I think we have to accept that barring a crippling new plateau in oil prices, consumer choice alone isn’t going to get us to a tipping point in decarbonising road transport fast enough. The carbon cost needs to start showing up in the price a lot more clearly. That’s why we were the first country in the EU to tie vehicle taxation to CO2.
  • Rare SS1 Tourer to Star in Barons 7th December Auction 10 Nov 2010 (News)
With just 2,600 miles covered, the Escort is still on its first set of brake shoes, and when the dipstick was withdrawn to check the (original) oil, it was still clean and like new. The interior is mint, as are the boot area and most of the paint and body. The spare wheel has never been used. The original paper stickers on the HT leads are still present with the numbers 1-4, and it has what looks like the spare key code written on a paper tab under the bonnet.

  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 27-6-2015 27 Jun 2015 (News)
Smoked The engine of my 2011 Nissan Pathfinder self-destructed at 91,000 miles, despite a full Nissan service history with intermediate oil and filter changes every 9,000 miles. Apparently, the level of oil in the sump had risen. I would have expected a diesel engine to last at least 250,000 miles. Do I have the basis of a claim against Nissan or the supplying dealer?

  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 13-6-2015 13 Jun 2015 (News)
Two swap strategy I want to change my old 2006 Freelander and 2000 SLK for an economical, reliable 5-door hatchback. The cars were inherited from my husband and both have a very low mileage. I would prefer an automatic, and need space for a largish dog.
  • Restoring Jaguar's Heritage 9 Dec 2013 (News)
We are led through the servicing area (above), which is currently home to about 12 different Jaguars - work here can vary from a general oil and filter change to a full electrical rewire. The sight of a number of E-types on two-post lifts, alongside Mk2s and XKs in the service bay is heartening - and one that evokes memories of Jaguar garages of old - without the cigarette smoke, and radio in the background.
  • Used Van Buying Guide: Vivaro 2014 - 2019 20 Nov 2019 (News)
.  Maintenance  on a Vauxhall Vivaro Vauxhall dictated a service every 25,000 miles, or two years, whatever was earlier, which you may well have received free as part of a package deal that Vauxhall often offered. For prudent owners, an oil and filter change every 12,000 miles or 12 months is strongly advised.  If you’re doing short-drop driving, it’s worth more regular check ups, and paying for those shouldn’t be too expensive, interim servicing from an independent will cost around £150.

"These people wouldn't drown a dog just because it becomes incontinent and dribbles on the carpet, so they don't feel they can crush a car when it starts to leak oil or blows a head gasket." To cater for these sensitive souls, Hyundai is to become the first manufacturer in the world to offer discreet, dignified and dedicated disposals for old cars.
