  • Knocking from rear wheels. Honda Prelude 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
It increases in frequency as you accelerate but seems to be getting a bit quieter then it was before a short drive. The car has 180k on the clock and has been almost trouble free for that time. Any ideas would be greatfully received.
  • Focus diesel cambelt 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
This is probably a good thing for cambelt longevity, but I wonder what it does for the camshaft timing. I can't detect any change in driving characteristics so far. I know Ford spend a fortune on development, but they did make the Edsel! Anyone out there with any info on this change?
  • omega cutting out 3 Apr 2005 (Forum)
It then starts as normal and runs perfectly for arond ten minutes, then it cuts again. Wait five minutes and all is ok for another ten minutes or so. It's driving me nuts. Anyone got any ideas? Nick
  • MOT for uninsured car 27 Mar 2005 (Forum)
However, I want to make sure it will pass it's MOT first before going to the expense of taxing and insuring it. My question is...is there any way I can legally drive my car to the nearest test centre (approx quarter of a mile) while it's not taxed or insured (I don't have access to a trailer or transporter). Thanks
  • Astra engine misfire 7 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Took the car to a local vauxhall garage (not main dealer)they have changed a coil and one spark plug checked for air leaks tried to reset the fault on the ECU but the engine light comes back on with the misfire on a test drive now they are checking the timing. Can anyone suggest a reason for the misfire? and should I pay the full amount of the bill for checks done if they cant cure the problem?
  • Braking problem - Nissan Almera 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Nissan Almera 2002, the car drifts to the left so when your are driving the steering wheel is off centre. Also when braking very heavily from 70 down to 50 the car swerves across the lane, sounds stupid but I dont know which way it swerved as I was too busy trying to correct it, it was quite severe.

  • Obtaining Insurance in the US 23 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Will my fourteen years of incident free motoring in the UK be considered by US insurers or am I going to be in the same risk category as a newly qualified sixteen year old who only had to drive round the block once to get his license? Anyone here have any relevant experience? Thanks, Grum.
  • Good Citizen: insurance query (theory) 18 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I was just watching an old Car Wars. There was a pursuit where the scrote was driving on the wrong side of a dual carriageway. A motorist went to pull in front of him (to stop him) then thought better of it. If you aided the apprehension of a criminal by blocking his car, and it resulted in damage to yours, who would pay for your damage?
  • tyres for shogun 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Comfort, long life and wet grip are important. Low rolling resistance would be nice aswell. Off road driving is limited to a 1 mile pot holed unadopted road every day. Any recommendations - dealers say Michelin Syncro's are good (and expensive!), but otherwise say they are all pretty similar. Thanks Andy
  • sounds like loose bolt - Corsa 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Sounds like a bolt is being spun round loose & keeps hitting metal. The noise goes completely shortly after you drive off. I've heard noisy hydraulic tappets before on other cars, but it doesn't sound the same as that. Pete
  • Omega Blower motor not working 4 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I have a P reg Omega 2.5 with climate control. Just recently the blower motor has stopped working. The air con seems to be working as when driving some cold or warm air comes through the vents. I have checked the fuse and relay. I have removed the glove box to get at the motor but it looks as though it will be difficult to get to the motor itself.
  • Thanks 2 Jan 2005 (Forum)
who very nearly managed to take out both my family and the mobile home behind me on a rather busy uphill stretch of the A303 this afternoon in Wiltshire. Not only did you scare the living daylights out of us with your aggressive and impatient driving but had you succeeded in your manouver, you would have gained all of a cars length until the next dual carriageway stretch which was some way ahead.
  • Re-educating the use of fog lights !!! 31 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Do people need to be re-educated in the use of their fog lamps, the amount of times that I have been blinded by some plonker driving with his fog lamps on, even though visibility isnt reduced by climatic conditions !!!! Being a member of one of the emergency services (Not police) I am shocked at the number of drivers who mis-use their fog lamps.
  • Auctions vs. car supermarkets 27 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Ten years ago there was a definite price advantage in favour of the auctions (taking into account risk, no test drives, hassle etc) but now I get the impression that the big sites are pretty close on prices - are auctions worth bothering with for the private buyer? I await your comments with interest
  • BMW330Diesel Sport Versus Merc270Diesel 28 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Help Im about to choose a company car and I am looking at a BMW 330DieselSport on a 2003 plate or a Merc E Class 270Diesel Avant Garde on a 2003 plate. I love the drive on the e class but concerned at the complicated electrical problems I have heard about with the car. The 330 is a dream and flys like poo off a shovel with handling to match. The space is great on the merc but its a big car.
  • 230MPH Electric Car 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
id=51690 Quick extract: "Called the Eliica - short for Electric Lithium-Ion battery Car - this radical 800bhp eight-wheeler from Japan is proof that electric vehicles can be fast and fun to drive, too. Boasting a four-second 0-60mph sprint and seven-second 0-100mph time, the Eliica is faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo." Only problem is that at the moment it will cost £170,000 to produce.
  • Mondeo ST24 17 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hello there, To keep my Sapphire cosworth company (or more to take its place while its off the road for a while) Ive been strongly considering a Mondie ST24, The said car is a metallic burgundy RSAP Model with 90000 miles, Im basically looking for a bit of guidance on what goes wrong with them and what to look out for, also what they like to drive (hard) and live with, I accept the fact that theyll no doubt be thirsty, Cheers in advance for any replys Ross
  • Anyone running a Kia Magentis? 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Someone I know is thinking of buying a Kia Magentis (after long-running and harrowing problems with a Jag X-type). He's had a short drive in one and thinks there OK. I note that they seem to be well regarded in the US (sold as a Kia Optima) - anyone have any experience of them over the longer term. Any ideas how they differ from the Hyundai Sonata (other than the latter gets a 5-year warranty and higher price)?
  • Polo = Lorry Magnet? 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Wasn't going to mention this, but my mum has been given a red Polo to drive while her Range Poser is repaired. (Engine exploded - long story). She told me about it and I mentioned that I knew of someone who drove a Polo into nearly every lorry she came across. A shocked expression came across my mum's face as she said that she had noticed that lorries seemed to aim for the Polo too.
